26 How Unit Studies & Interest-led Learning Help Kids Find Identity & Purpose: A Chat with Camila Johnson
2026/09/30
Is your child burned out from “doing school”?  What if following their interests could help bring the joy back to learning?   In this episode, I’m talking with Camila Johnson about unit studies, interest-led learning, and raising lifelong learners. Camila shares about challenges she faced raising her sons with ADHD and then becoming a homeschool mom later in life and  creating an herbalism unit study. We talk about how following our kids’ curiosity can make learning more engaging, meaningful, and fun. Because homeschooling doesn’t have to be about checking every box. It can be an opportunity to explore our kids’ interests, nurture their gifts, and help them become who they’re created to be.   Connect with Camila Website: https://edeninstitute.health/homeschool  FB: https://www.facebook.com/EdensTableHomeschoolCurriculum IG: https://www.instagram.com/edenstablehomeschoolcurriculum/   Related Resources from Homeschooling Systems for ADHD Families Get my Fixes for Homeschool Days That Fall Apart guide freebie https://bit.ly/homeschoolparachuteplan   Continue the conversation in the Facebook group! 24 Overwhelmed By Your Child's Needs? 5 Steps To Narrow Down To One Big Goal
2026/09/16
Feeling overwhelmed by everything you have to do as a homeschool mom? Not sure how to work on all your neurodivergent child’s needs? What if you could narrow down to just one big goal?   In this episode, I walk through 5 steps to narrow down your list of goals for your kid(s) to pick one big goal that is important to you and your child.  Define the goal (understand that a goal is a bundle of multiple different smaller skills) What are the prerequisite skills? What does your child need to be able to do or know? Where is my child today? What skills does he/she have? What are some natural ways we can incorporate skill practice in our home and homeschool? Reassess expectations Note: This is not about IEP goals, but could be helpful in advocating for your child in that way.   Related Resources from Homeschooling Systems for ADHD Families Get the 37 free planner sample pages here: https://homeschoolingsystemsforadhd.com/freeplannersamplepages   Get my Fixes for Homeschool Days That Fall Apart guide freebie https://bit.ly/homeschoolparachuteplan   Learn more about my 1:1 coaching here: homeschoolingsystemsforadhd.com/coachingoffer   Continue the conversation in the Facebook group! 20 How to Plan Homeschool Reading and Find Books for Resistant and Struggling Readers
2026/08/19
What do you do when your child is struggling with reading? Navigating reading challenges, dyslexia, or ADHD How do you find good books that fit your child’s interests? This isn't an episode about how to teach a child with dyslexia to read. There are wonderful specialists and evidence-based approaches for that. This episode is about something different: how do we keep books, stories, and reading joyful when reading itself is difficult?   Related Resources from Homeschooling Systems for ADHD Families   Here’s the free book organizer that accompanies this episode! bit.ly/onlinebookorganizer   Get my Fixes for Homeschool Days That Fall Apart guide freebie https://bit.ly/homeschoolparachuteplan   Continue the conversation in the Facebook group! 17 How to Plan Your Homeschool Year: 6 Steps for a Calm and Successful Year
2026/07/29
Does homeschool planning stress you out? Or are you getting ready to begin homeschool but not sure where to start? What’s most important to do when you’re planning? Is it curriculum? Is it a co-op?   Planning your homeschool year doesn't have to feel overwhelming. In this episode, I’ll share some of my first year mistakes that taught me how to plan more intentionally. You'll learn how to build a homeschool year that fits your family's values, schedule, and goals. Whether you're brand new to homeschooling or simply looking for a more intentional way to prepare for the year ahead, these six steps will help you create a clear roadmap with less stress and more confidence. I’ll go over six key steps: How to create a weekly homeschool schedule that fits your family's life Why reflection is one of the most important parts of planning How to build a daily homeschool rhythm that supports consistency What your homeschool "spine" is and how it simplifies curriculum planning How to choose extracurriculars and enrichment activities without overscheduling Guidance for evaluating all your ideas and making decisions Related Resources from Homeschooling Systems for ADHD Families   Free Simple Homeschool Systems Workshop: sign up here!   Continue the conversation in the Facebook group! 16 5 Things Homeschooling Gives Children with ADHD That Traditional Schools Often Can't
2026/07/22
Have you ever wondered if your child is struggling because of ADHD—or because they're trying to learn in an environment that wasn't designed with neurodivergent brains in mind?   In this episode, I'm sharing five reasons why homeschooling can be such a powerful option for children with ADHD. This isn't about saying traditional schools are "bad." There are incredible teachers doing amazing work every day. But many ADHD learners need flexibility, individualized support, and opportunities to build executive functioning skills that are difficult to provide in a traditional classroom. We'll talk about how homeschooling allows us to create a learning environment that supports regulation, teach the life skills our kids actually need, nurture their interests, and prepare them for a rapidly changing world. Most importantly, homeschooling gives us the opportunity to help our children grow into confident, capable adults while honoring the unique way God created them.   Related Resources from Homeschooling Systems for ADHD Families   Free Simple Homeschool Systems Workshop: sign up here!   Continue the conversation in the Facebook group! 14 When Behavior Is Really a Regulation Challenge: A Conversation with OT Alison Foura
2026/07/08
Why do some behavior strategies seem to work for one child but completely fail with another? What does "regulation" actually mean, and why does it matter so much for learning and behavior? How can you tell if a challenging behavior is really a sign that your child is dysregulated?   In this episode, occupational therapist Alison Foura joins me from the Sensory Solutions for Parents podcast to explore the connection between regulation and behavior. We discuss what it is and how it impacts learning, attention, emotions, and behavior.  Whether you're navigating meltdowns, resistance, big emotions, or daily struggles with focus and transitions, this conversation will help you look beneath the behavior and better support your neurodivergent learner.
