Being Out of Pain Is Not the Same as Being Healthy | Human Performance Coach Ben Kowal
2026/10/11
A lot of people only look at their health once something goes wrong. Ben Kowal says being out of pain is not the same as being healthy.
Ben Kowal is a health and human performance coach and the founder of Invictus Health Hub, which he started in 2018. He lost all four of his grandparents to cancer, the first when he was seven, and says the hopelessness and acceptance language he heard around his grandfather's bed set him on the path to everything he has built since.
Sam has done Ben's detox program himself and says it changed his life. In this conversation Ben explains how he thinks about waste and energy in the body, what true health actually means, and the health bar he uses to map the way from dysfunction to functional health and freedom.

The Due Diligence Experts: Why Pitch Decks Don't Cut It Anymore
2026/09/20
Most people find out what's wrong with a deal after they've signed it. Johnny Quattro and Steve Walshe get paid to find it first.
Johnny Quattro spent thirty years building, failing and rebuilding businesses before he set up Goodrich Partners, a due diligence firm built to do the digging most investors never get around to. Steve Walshe built the analysis engine behind it, the technology that scores a business across financials, founder history, exposure and sector analyses before anyone puts money on the table.
Sam first came across Johnny years ago. That conversation has now turned into a formal partnership. Goodrich is the analytical and intelligence layer underneath every deal that comes through The Rural Bridge, pulling apart what a pitch deck won't show you before Sam brings an opportunity to the community.

Money, Health, Relationships: The Story Behind The Rural Bridge
2026/09/13
In this episode, Sam sits down solo to walk through what The Rural Bridge is. The bloke who walked away from the drilling industry, and the business he built out of what he learned on the other side of it.Sam talks about the light bulb moment on the Gold Coast after he stepped away from drilling. A book his mate put in his hands, and the realisation that he'd spent his entire working life on the left-hand side of the equation; Trading time for money, working harder, pushing more, exactly the way most rural people are raised to.He talks about the gap he saw sitting between rural people and the wealth strategies most of them never get exposure to. Not because they aren't capable, but because they don't have the time, the rooms, or the trust in that world to go deeper. He talks about being one of those blokes himself, and the moment he decided to become the person who could do the due diligence and bring the opportunities back.Sam talks about the parallel journey he was on at the same time. Six years and over three hundred thousand dollars spent on mindset, psychology, men's work, blood work, leadership, wealth mastery, and mentoring. The moment he realised money on its own was never going to be enough. And how the three pillars, money, health and relationships, became the foundation of everything he now teaches. This is the story of why The Rural Bridge exists, what it took to build it, and where it's going next.Follow The Rural Bridge on Instagram and Facebook @rural__bridge, and connect with Sam Ferrier on LinkedIn.www.theruralbridge.com
Nursing, Motherhood and When Life Doesn't Follow the Plan With Amelia Boileau
2026/08/30
In this episode, Sam sits down with his little sister Amelia Boileau, clinical nurse and new mother from Roma, and walks back through the years that made her: the freedom of a Roma childhood as the only sister to two brothers, boarding school at Toowoomba Prep and St Margaret's, five years in ICU at Princess Alexandra Hospital, and the day a patient's brain came out of his head and landed in her hands and she knew she was done.
They talk about hitting 30 with none of the milestones ticked, sitting on her brother's kitchen floor and crying about it, and the notepad she pulled out to write ten things down about the partner she actually wanted.
They talk about Gus arriving two months later, the wedding, and the daughter she'd wanted for a decade. They talk about the disconnection she couldn't explain and the shame that kept it hidden longer than the disconnection itself. They talk about the isolation of a beautiful rural property, the 10 days in Roma that were the best of her life, and a simple coffee with another human being as the thing that fills her cup.
They talk about the invisible calendar rural women are handed, the village they no longer have, and Sam's honest reflection on losing 50% of the woman he married when the first child arrived. They talk about the nervous system side of motherhood, the 60-day challenge with Gus before the wedding, and what Amelia has learned about presence as the thing her daughter actually needs, community as what the property alone cannot give her, and the safe place she's chosen to become.
Talk about it before it becomes shame. Fill your cup so your family gets the version of you they need. What's meant to be for you is meant to be.

Burnout, Bees & Building Something Worth Keeping with Tom Kerr
2026/08/09
For most people, success is the story of how much harder you were willing to work. This is the story of what happens when hard work is the thing that breaks you.
In this episode, Sam sits down with Tom Kerr, Tamworth electrician and founder of TDK Electrical, and walks back through the years that made him: the Wee Waa upbringing surrounded by a family of eleven electricians, running multi-million dollar construction projects at 27, building his own house after hours with his partner Jenna to save the money, and the mental breakdown that finally forced him to stop.
They talk about the couple of years spent climbing back, the version of him that was doing everything he'd been raised to do and paying for it in places nobody was looking, and Jenna who held the line while he rebuilt. They talk about the bees, not as a business but as the thing that made him slow down and reconnect, and the quiet work of putting himself back together before he went near the tools again.
They talk about starting TDK Electrical with ten thousand dollars, nine years without running a single ad, and every apprentice he's ever put on still working for him. They talk about bringing two long-term staff on as shareholders while the business is at its peak, why goodwill is worth nothing and systems are worth everything, and doing the succession conversation now instead of waiting until sixty-five to sell up like most rural business owners do.
They talk about the head-down, work-hard, build-it-yourself paradigm passed down through their fathers, the version of it being broken in this generation, and what Tom has learned about presence as the thing his daughter actually needs, structure as what gives a business the right to outlast you, and slowing down before something makes you.
Build what outlasts you. Do the succession conversation while you're still standing. Family's the point.

Mateship, Fatherhood and Becoming Who Your Family Needs with Brendan Grulke
2026/07/19
For most people, becoming a father is the story of getting ready for it. This is the story of what you didn't know you weren't yet.
In this episode, Sam sits down with his oldest mate and walks back through the years that made him: the rural childhood most kids won't get to have again, the mine wages that came in too young and taught him what money without structure actually costs, and the concrete truck rolled at a 100km an hour that finally shifted what he chose to worry about.
They talk about the first years of fatherhood, the version of him that was present in the ways that were easy to measure and absent in the ways that mattered, and the wife who carried the slack while he caught up. They talk about the 250 acres bought on their limit, the container home built by hand, and the childhood being handed down again. They talk about six months off the drink, the addiction that wasn't quite an addiction, and what opens up when the stop button finally works.
They talk about the paradigms passed down through their fathers, the ones being broken in this generation, and what Brendan has learned about presence as the thing that matters most, structure as what catches income before it slips, and discomfort as the thing you have to walk into before it makes you.
Lean into the discomfort. Enjoy what you've got. Family's everything.

The Long Game of Building Wealth in the Country
2026/07/05
This episode follows Campbell McIntosh’s journey from growing up in a hardworking rural family, through the building and construction industry, and into property development and long-term wealth creation.
A big part of the conversation is around the values he was raised with, the influence of his parents, and how those early lessons shaped the way he approached opportunity, risk, and building a life with more freedom and ownership.
The episode then moves into the practical side of wealth creation, backing yourself, spotting opportunities, taking calculated risks, building the right network, and learning how to move from working for money into building assets.
Identity, Motherhood and Finding Yourself Again with Susie Ferrier
2026/06/21
Susie Ferrier raised three kids in a house that ran at 150 mile an hour. A country woman from Roma, she built two businesses with babies in a playpen out the back of the shop, long before anyone called it a daycare problem, alongside her husband and a community that watched the Ferrier kids grow up free.
For most people, motherhood is the story of raising them. This is the story of what happens after.
In this episode, Sam sits down with his mother and walks back through the years that made her: the self-reliance that rural women in her era had no choice but to learn, and the honest reckoning of what running flat out for thirty years cost the people closest to her.
They talk about the identity that collapses when the children leave, the five years it took her to find herself again, and the morning she trained alone in the dark at 60 and discovered something she'd been missing the whole time. They talk about the paradigms handed down through the lineage, the ones getting broken in the next generation, and what she's learned about presence as the thing that matters most, time as the one thing you never get back, and the patience it takes to become who you are after the work is done.
Run your race. Family's everything. Let your light shine.

Rural Property, Relationships and Doing It Right with Michael Corcoran
2026/06/07
Michael Corcoran was chasing his old man around sale yards before he could read. A stock agent's son raised in Glen Innes, with a career across cattle stations up north, live export through Asia, ranches in North America, and back to rural real estate where his family has worked for generations.
For most outsiders, rural property looks like a transaction.
In this episode, Sam sits down with Michael and walks back through the kitchens and lounge rooms of families selling places they've held for four generations, the three Ds that put most of them on the market, the market cycle from 2021 to now, and the slow weight of carrying someone else through the hardest season of their life.
They talk about the paradigms inherited from his father and the industry that raised him, and what Michael has learned about communication as the thing that decides every sale, integrity as the asset that outlasts the money, and the long-game patience required to actually become good at any of it.

Wealth, Work Ethic and the Brotherly Bond with Scotty Ferrier
2026/05/24
Scott Ferrier built FB Drilling from the ground up alongside his brother Sam. Two blokes, a drilling rig, and a work ethic passed down through three generations of the Ferrier family.
For years, that was enough.
In this episode, the brothers sit down for the first time on mic and walk back through the decade they spent building something together, the drought years, the 3am starts, the missed weddings and funerals, and the slow creep of a grind that was costing both of them more than either of them could see.
They talk about the paradigms inherited from their father and grandfather and what Scotty has learned about scaling, letting go of control, and building a team that doesn't need you on the tools every day.

The Wake-Up Call That Changed Everything
2026/05/10
From the outside, Matt C**k had it all. Plumbing business turning over good money. Trucks, employees, the lot. Underneath, he was running on alcohol, drugs, ego, and 16-hour days, and he knew it.
In this episode, Matt sits down with Sam and walks through the years of slow erosion that led to his rock bottom, the family intervention that put him on a plane to rehab, and the five weeks that started a rebuild that's still going three and a half years on. He talks about what real accountability looks like, why "surviving to thriving" is a trap nobody warns you about, and what it actually takes to come back from 300k in debt with your relationships in pieces.
This conversation is for anyone running on empty and hoping it'll sort itself out. It won't. Matt's story is the proof, and the way back.

The Cost of Grinding: Burnout, Work Identity and Finding Yourself Again with Scott Hays
2026/05/03
This episode is a raw conversation between Sam and his lifelong mate Scott Hays around what happens to a man when work becomes his entire identity — and what it costs him before he even realises it.
It explores how the work ethic passed down through generations, from grandfathers who went to war to fathers who never stopped moving, quietly shapes the way rural men operate without them ever consciously choosing it. A big part of the episode is around burnout, the signs that get ignored for years, the damage that spills onto the people closest to you, and what it actually takes to stop running on empty and start rebuilding from the ground up.
When Kids, Business & Life Start Pulling a Relationship Apart
2026/04/24
This episode is a raw conversation between Sam and Jennah around what happens to a relationship when life starts getting full, kids, business, work stress, lack of communication, and the pressure of trying to hold everything together at once.
It explores how relationships shift from freedom and connection in the early days into something much more complex once family, responsibility, and different roles start piling on.
A big part of the episode is around communication, emotional load, intimacy, and the reality of trying to stay connected when both people are under pressure.
