First Pitch | Welcome to The Broadcast Podcast
2026/09/12
TV and radio have given baseball fans countless memories — from "The Giants win the pennant!" to "Go crazy, folks!" … from "Touch 'em all, Joe."  To "In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened."  For more than 70 years, baseball and radio have been inseparable And yet, more than one‑third of all Major League games were never recorded. They are silent. Each episode of The Broadcast Podcast takes a game played decades ago — a game lost to time, a silent scorecard — and, using box scores, play‑by‑play accounts, articles, and biographies, reconstructs the game and broadcasts it as if it were live. The Chase - Pirates and Cubs Battle for NL Pennant
2026/07/15
In late 1938, the National League Pennant looked to be a lock, but then became a chase to the end.  This game is a pivotal moment in the pursuit of the pennant.   Baseball and Broadcasting have been intrinsically linked for the better part of a century. But more than a third of major league baseball games were played before widespread Broadcasting or means of preservation.  These are the silent scorecards. In this podcast, we select one of these scorecards and using game logs, biographies, articles, and books, we recreate the game by broadcasting it as if were live.   Our approach is to recreate the game as historically accurate as possible. Where data is not available, artistic license is used. Where license is used, respect for the player and respect for the game are held in highest regard.   This episode recreates a crucial game in the breathtaking finish to the 1938 National League Pennant chase.   Created and Engineered by Shane Tucker Artwork and Sound Design by NZ Illustrations   Thank you to those who provide inspiration and feedback along the way: my wife Jacqueline, Zambia, Kyle, Mark, Bobby, John, David and others that were simply excited when the podcast idea was shared. Thank you.   [email protected]
