Believing That Is Becoming
2026/10/20
Believing That Is Becoming 1 Corinthians 2–3 | Jeremiah 32:38–40 This message emphasizes that genuine faith in Jesus is more than believing something about Him; it is a believing that is continually becoming more like Him. Our believing affects our behavior, and our behavior reveals whether we're being led by the Spirit of God or governed by the desires of our flesh. Paul confronted the believers at Corinth because, although they had received the gospel and the wisdom of God, their jealousy, strife, and divisions exposed their spiritual immaturity. They were placing their confidence in gifted servants rather than recognizing that Paul, Apollos, and Peter were merely instruments through whom God was working. The servants planted and watered, but God gave the increase. The message reminds us that God has given us His Word and His Spirit, not merely to increase our knowledge, but to transform our lives. His wisdom teaches us to depend upon Him rather than our own understanding, producing humility, patience, purity, love, and a willingness to serve others without competition or offense. When we're Spirit-led, even life's difficulties and relationships become opportunities for God to accomplish His good purpose in us—conforming us to the image of Jesus. Drawing from Jeremiah 32:38–40, the message reveals God's desire to give His people one heart and one way, placing His fear within them so they will continually walk with Him. This reverence produces a lifestyle of dependence that blesses not only us but also those who come after us. Ultimately, the great evidence of our believing is who and what we're becoming. When we receive God's Word, yield to His Spirit, and trust Je

And That He Was Buried
2026/10/18
This sermon examines the burial of Jesus as recorded in Mark 15, emphasizing that the physical death and burial of Christ are essential components of the gospel message. The exposition highlights three key aspects: the courageous action of Joseph of Arimathea in claiming the body, the confirmation of Jesus' death by Pilate and the centurion, and the faithful execution of the burial by Joseph and Nicodemus. The preacher argues that these events demonstrate the literal reality of Christ's sacrifice, countering the idea that He merely suffered or swooned. Furthermore, the passage illustrates that true allegiance to Christ requires practical obedience and service, even in the face of fear or apparent defeat. Ultimately, the sermon grounds the believer's confidence not in fluctuating emotions but in the unchanging truth of Scripture and the faithfulness of God, who fulfills His promises even in the midst of grief and finality.
Afraid of The People
2026/10/18
The religious health of the nation of Israel was in bad shape during the life of Christ on the earth. He taught the truth. He exposed the lies of the false teachers. However, the people loved the false teachers more than God. Now the false teachers were at the place where they wanted to kill Jesus. However, they feared the people. They needed to figure out how to kill Jesus and still keep the people on their side.
Celebrating God's Faithfulness
2026/10/18
In 1925, Mr Charles Trout started the East Berlin Nondenominational Sunday School, believing that every community needed to hear God's Word. In 1958, the Sunday School called their first pastor, Mr. Alexander Mattern and took steps to become the East Berlin Community Church. On Sunday, we celebrated the 100 year anniversary of the Sunday School and Church. With the uncertainty surrounding the future of the church with Pastor's retirement at the end of the year, we chose today to focus on the faithfulness of God! After recounting the history of the church we looked at Psalm 89, the contemplation of Ethan who lived in uncertain times. He too chose to celebrate God's faithfulness which is celebrated in heaven and seen in God's faithfulness to David. From what we learned about God's faithful character, the sermon ends with a few examples of God's faithfulness to the church family at EBCC. The fact that the church still exists is a testament to the faithfulness of our God!
Before You Fight the Enemy, Tear Down the Altar
2026/10/18
Tonight…we pick up where we left off. God is gonna show Gideon… that peace with the LORD… is not permission to make peace with idols. Before Gideon can confront Midian in the valley… he must confront Baal… in his own backyard.
A Spiritual Meaning to Life
2026/10/18
Solomon's words here are not sarcasm. They are counsel for believers who live under the sun. Eat your bread with joy. Drink your wine with a merry heart. God has already accepted your works — not because we earn it, but because our lives are in His hands. Wear the garments of praise. Live joyfully with the spouse He has given. And whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, because the race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong. Time and providence happen to them all. This is not a call to self-centered pleasure. It is a call to thankful contentment and diligent labor — for the glory of the God who gives both the bread and the breath. Life under the sun is short. Do the work. Enjoy the gift. Fear God.
A Greater Lesson Than Walking on Water
2026/10/18
This sermon explores the narrative of Jesus walking on water and Peter's attempt to follow, emphasizing that the central purpose of the event is not merely the miracle itself but the revelation of Jesus' identity as the Son of God. The speaker highlights how the disciples' fear during the storm contrasts with Jesus' authority and comfort, illustrating that crises often test faith rather than result from disobedience. Peter's experience serves as a model for believers who may feel overwhelmed by life's circumstances, showing that looking away from Jesus leads to sinking, while crying out for help results in immediate rescue. The passage concludes with the disciples' worship, which the speaker identifies as the true climax, affirming that Jesus is worthy of adoration regardless of one's current situation. The message calls the audience to trust in Jesus' sovereignty and to prioritize their relationship with Him above all else, recognizing that their hope rests in His power to sustain and save them. Outline: 1) Our Circumstances Can Create a Crisis 2) Our Circumstances Can Bring a Command 3) Our Circumstances Can Lead to a Confession
A Lament for God's People
2026/10/18
When tragedy strikes, God invites his people to cry out to him in grief and lament. Psalm 56 shows us that we can bring our fears, sorrow, and even our cries for justice before the Lord, trusting that he sees our tears, remains faithful through the waiting, and can bring good even from evil. In our deepest pain, we can find hope in the God who cares for us. From our Sunday service at Grace Bible Church of Bend.
Chosen In Christ
2026/10/18
This sermon explores the theological purpose of God's eternal election as presented in Ephesians 1:3-6, arguing that believers were chosen for holiness, adoption, and the praise of God's glory. The message clarifies that salvation is not merely about forgiveness but involves a transformative process where grace produces obedience, countering both legalism and antinomianism. It emphasizes the familial reality of adoption, urging believers to approach God with the confidence of children rather than the fear of outsiders, while grounding their identity in Christ's work rather than fluctuating emotions. The sermon concludes by directing the ultimate end of election toward the worship of God, warning against pride or speculation and encouraging a humble, awe-filled response to the sovereign grace that chose the elect before the foundation of the world.
"Homeward Bound: The Reverent Redeemed"
2026/10/18
What are Christians like? How are Christians different from our unsaved neighbors, coworkers, and friends as we journey through life in a world that is not our home? Christians are hopeful, says 1 Peter 1:13. Christians are holy, says verse 15. And Christians are reverent; we live in the fear of the Lord. "If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one's work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your sojourn," 1 Peter 1:17 (LSB). God's children live with reverent awe before their Father and Judge, knowing that He evaluates everything in our lives impartially. Ours is not the fear of condemnation awaiting those who have no refuge from God's wrath; it is the reverence of those who belong to a holy God and take seriously how they live before Him. Why do we live this way? Because we've been redeemed with the precious blood of Christ. Christians are the reverent redeemed. This Lord's Day, we'll continue our look at 1 Peter 1 and its call to godly living in a God-denying world. Join us as we consider, "Homeward Bound: The Reverent Redeemed." Prepare for Sunday: Read and meditate on 1 Peter 1:13-21, focusing on verses 17-21. Also read 2 Corinthians 5:9-10 and 1 John 3:1-3. What reasons does Peter give for Christians to live in reverent fear? How should we understand the call to fear God in light of the Bible's teaching that believers are forgiven and accepted by God? How should knowing that God judges impartially—and that Christ has redeemed us at such a cost—change the way we live?

Christian Contentment, So Rare
2026/10/18
Verse by verse exposition through the book of Hebrews. (Sermon also includes the reading and exhortation from the Lord's Table liturgy) Heb 13:5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." 6 So we may boldly say: "The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?" 1 Tim 6: 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows..... 17 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. 18 Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share...
24 1 Peter 3:13-17Conduct in Suffering pt 1
2026/10/18
This sermon explores God's remedy for suffering by examining the command to sanctify Christ as Lord in the heart, shifting focus from external persecution to internal devotion. The teaching emphasizes the believer's responsibility to be perpetually ready to provide a verbal defense of their faith, known as apologia, when questioned about the hope within them. This defense must be delivered with gentleness, reverential fear, and a good conscience, which is rooted in the finished work of Christ. The passage highlights that while suffering for righteousness is a remote possibility, it is ultimately better to suffer for doing right than for doing wrong, as such endurance finds favor with God. The tone is instructional and pastoral, encouraging believers to rely on the Holy Spirit to embody these character traits while maintaining a secure hope in God's promises.
