As the 81st Debate of the General Assembly of the United Nations, 173 have been listed to speak. 87 nations (so far) have mentioned Israel, Palestine, the West Bank or Gaza. 84 of them have criticized Israel.  In this Bible in the News, we highlight some of these speeches and the biblical prophecies they touch on.

It’s 25 years since the September 11th twin towers or World Trade Center attacks in New York. Those events shook and changed the world, resulting in America launching it’s war on terrorism. It was an attack on the World Trade Center and what that center represented. America is a trading nation. It is no coincidence that the key nations that joined the American led coalition at that time were also trading nations, such as the UK and Australia. Several times in recent history these nations have been drawn into wars in the Middle East to protect trading partners and key trade routes.

Global attention has shifted from the Russia–Ukraine war toward the Middle East and Iran. Bible prophecy identifies Russia with the “Prince of Rosh” and “King of the North”, and speaks of a Russian-led alliance that will control Europe and invade Israel. Russia’s current difficulties are a temporary period of being “held back,” which has allowed Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis to be degraded and has created conditions for peace and prosperity in Israel. European countries are strengthening borders, expanding armed forces, and introducing or considering military-service programs, while Russia is preparing to mobilize additional troops. The path pointed out in the prophetic scriptures is inevitable.

While there are many passages in scripture that describe the latter days, Zechariah 12 may well be one of the under-appreciated ones! The purpose of this week's Bible in the News is a little different and is focussed on one particular passage. It's important that we have a strong Bible foundation when looking at the signs of the times in our world today.

Jerusalem and the mountains of Israel become the centre of international controversy again this week. We look at this in the light of Bible prophecy.

Welcome to another edition of the Bible in the News brought to you this week by Tim Billington. Here is a video version: Israel is still troubled by the Islamic threat within and around them.  It is also no longer the days of incessant terror attacks that constantly took out scores of people in cafes and on buses, either.  This Islamic threat is now harassing the West, too.  We are also seeing the international threat grow, especially in Europe.

Zohran Mandani is the recently elected Mayor of New York City. This gives him an international well-respected position to voice his views. New York City is currently home to nearly 1 million Jews. Last week, Netanyahu visited Trump at the Whitehouse. This is what Zohran Mamdani said about him as he posted a video that was framed almost as an apology that he did not have the power to arrest Netanyahu in New York. Here is what Zohran Mamdani said on the 22nd July:

This week the News has yet again been filled with stories about the US’s attacking Iran. There have been reports of consecutive nights of airstrikes happening on Iran since President Donald Trump declared the temporary ceasefire agreement was "over". The US is said to be hitting key infrastructure and its reported that airports, bridges and water utilities in parts of the country have been hit.

The settlements being built in Judea and Samaria (a.k.a the cradle of ancient Jewish civilisation) are a witness to the hand of God at work with his people Israel in the latter days. This week, further building approvals in the Binyamin region remind us of that once again.

The United States and Israel attacked Iran together on the 28th of February 2026. Within a week hundreds of targets were hit throughout Iran, killing thousands of IRGC personnel, including the supreme leader Ali Khamenei himself. Along with the military strikes, cyber attacks took over media organisations and telephones, broadcasting messages encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against their government.  It was clear that the strategy was regime change.

Isaiah 30:27, AV “27 Behold, the name of the LORD cometh from far, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire:”

Throughout this week, President Trump repeatedly called for 6 Arab States to join the Abraham Accords, stating it was mandatory. The US administration repeatedly insisted Iran will not get a nuclear weapon to destroy Israel with, which is in keeping with Bible Prophecy. The US is pushing to have the Gulf Nations join Israel in creating an unprecedented age of peace and prosperity in the region.  This is what the Bible indicates will ultimately be achieved:  Iran will survive to fight again, the Gulf States will form an alliance with the Merchant Powers of Tarshish, and peace will come to the region with the associated prosperity.

A couple of weeks ago, many of the people of this Island went out to vote in the local elections. Local elections are typically a fairly boring part of politics, where local councillors are chosen across different regions of the country. Often, the party in power does badly, as people use their vote to voice frustration at the direction of government in Westminster. However, this year, the local elections were different. The reason they were different, was largely because of the meteoric rise of one man: Nigel Farage.

The disruption of the global economy and stability is causing nations like Germany to shift from pacifist product production to military manufacturing. The Bible is clear that this is how things will unfold. Trump’s tariffs and threats to pull out of NATO are having a significant dual-impact on the German economy.
