“Freedom for the Sake of the Gospel” (1 Cor. 10:25–30)
2026/10/18
Many Christians do get caught up in rules to make themselves feel better about their lives. Yet, in the gospel, we have a great deal of freedom! We just watch to ensure that we don't use that freedom to bring offense against the gospel message. -Notes: https://pastormarksbury.blogspot.com/2026/10/sermon-freedom-for-sake-of-gospel-1-cor.html -Livestream: https://lwbcfruita.org/live -Donations: https://www.lwbcfruita.org/give
Paul's Emphatic Rejection of Sin (Part 3)
2026/10/18
This lesson examines the moral failure of the crowd and Pilate in condemning Jesus, illustrating how group pressure and pragmatic expediency can override individual conscience and divine law. It argues that there is no neutral position in the face of injustice, asserting that silence or passive compliance with evil constitutes a violation of the command to love one's neighbor. By citing Proverbs, Zechariah, and Isaiah, the message emphasizes God's demand for impartial justice, particularly toward the vulnerable, and rejects the notion that majority rule or civil statutes can legitimize wickedness. The teacher urges believers to recognize the duty to disobey unlawful decrees, drawing on examples from Daniel and Esther, and to resist the cultural trend of urging approval for evil under the guise of tolerance. Ultimately, the message calls for a steadfast commitment to God's Word over societal consensus, warning that prioritizing outcomes over righteousness opens the door to moral corruption.
If a Man Abide Not in Me
2026/10/18
Is this verse spoken to men who never believed, or to the eleven in the upper room, the branches the Lord Jesus Christ calls "in me" (John 15:2)? Read the first word of the verse, "If" (John 15:6), and ask whether a man can choose not to abide. Then ask what fire a man is cast into when "they are burned" (John 15:6), and where else the Lord Jesus Christ speaks of "the fire that never shall be quenched" (Mark 9:43). "If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned." (John 15:6)
Setting Boundaries by Conscience and Consequences

Is There Really a God?
2026/10/18
The sermon addresses the fundamental question of God's existence by pointing to the order of the universe and the human conscience as evidence of a Creator. It argues that while science explains mechanisms, it cannot account for the origin of existence or the objective reality of moral laws. The message shifts from intellectual inquiry to personal accountability, noting that conscience reveals human sinfulness and the need for a God who commands rather than merely comforts. The central focus is on Jesus Christ, whose life, death, and resurrection provide the means for forgiveness and a new relationship with the Creator. The tone is inviting yet challenging, urging the listener to move beyond abstract questions to a decisive response to the person of Jesus.
Christian Liberty and the Weaker Brother - Part 2
2026/10/18
This passage teaches that believers may differ in conscience on matters not essential to the faith, yet all must live before the Lord with full conviction and humility. We do not belong to ourselves: in life and in death, we are the Lord's, for Christ died and rose again to be Lord of both the dead and the living. Therefore, our lives must be shaped by his lordship, grace, and love toward one another.
Made In His Image
2026/10/18
This sermon continues a series on Genesis chapter one, focusing on the creation of humanity and the theological significance of being made in God's image. It examines the grammatical distinction between the singular noun 'God' and the plural pronoun 'us' in Genesis 1:26, suggesting a Trinitarian collaboration in creation. The central argument posits that the 'image and likeness' of God refers to the tripartite nature of human beings (body, soul, spirit) and the possession of free will, which distinguishes humans from animals and plants. The text contrasts the initial declaration that creation was 'good' with the later reality of moral corruption, highlighting that morality and conscience are derived from this divine imprint rather than evolutionary instinct. The tone is instructional and apologetic, aiming to provide a biblical explanation for human uniqueness, moral agency, and the capacity for spiritual choice.
A Good Conscience

24 1 Peter 3:13-17Conduct in Suffering pt 1
2026/10/18
This sermon explores God's remedy for suffering by examining the command to sanctify Christ as Lord in the heart, shifting focus from external persecution to internal devotion. The teaching emphasizes the believer's responsibility to be perpetually ready to provide a verbal defense of their faith, known as apologia, when questioned about the hope within them. This defense must be delivered with gentleness, reverential fear, and a good conscience, which is rooted in the finished work of Christ. The passage highlights that while suffering for righteousness is a remote possibility, it is ultimately better to suffer for doing right than for doing wrong, as such endurance finds favor with God. The tone is instructional and pastoral, encouraging believers to rely on the Holy Spirit to embody these character traits while maintaining a secure hope in God's promises.

The Holy War! John Bunyan: Walk Thru and Analysis of the Book
2026/10/17
In this episode, we venture into the epicenter of John Bunyan's The Holy War—a grand, high-stakes military epic that transforms the human soul into the contested fortress of Mansoul. From the tactical vulnerabilities of the city's five sensory gates to the tragic slide into spiritual complacency under Mr. Carnal-Security, Bunyan strips away religious platitudes to reveal how easily a restored heart can lose its way. We trace the dramatic conversion of Lord Willbewill, the fiery confrontation where Mr. Godly-Fear shatters the illusion of safety, and the essential partnership between an awakened conscience and the guiding power of the Holy Spirit. If you've ever wondered how subtle compromises take root—or how true vigilance and grace reclaim what was lost—this deep dive into Bunyan's 2nd allegorical books that will fundamentally change the way you guard the gates of your own life.
Secret Sins: What Happens When You Keep Them Hidden?
2026/10/16
In this episode of the Straight Truth Podcast, Dr. Josh Philpot asks Pastor Richard Caldwell what happens when you hide sin and how Christians should live knowing that the Lord sees every secret thought and action. Beginning with Psalm 94:7-11 and Psalm 90:8, Pastor Caldwell explains that the root of overcoming secret sins is the fear of the Lord, which warns the lost of coming judgment at the Great White Throne in Revelation 20 and exhorts believers not to believe Satan's lie that they can get away with concealing sin. Looking at Proverbs 28:13 and 1 John 1:9, he shows that hiding sin from God brings spiritual misery, harms the people around us, and invites the loving, fatherly discipline of God, whereas confessing and forsaking sin in genuine biblical repentance restores a clear conscience, sweet fellowship with the Father, and the blessed life of Psalm 1. Finally, contrasting deliberate concealment with David's humble prayer in Psalm 19 for God to reveal hidden faults and restrain presumptuous sins, Pastor Caldwell reminds believers that although the accuser attacks their private sins, they have an Advocate in Christ whose blood paid for all their sins, freeing them by grace in Romans 6 to walk in obedience as their works are judged for reward.
Government Authority—Theology of Human Institutions | Religious Liberty | Intro
2026/10/14
This sermon examines the historical and theological arguments for religious liberty in early colonial America, focusing on the Baptist perspective that the state has no authority over the church or individual conscience. It contrasts the corruption of state-sanctioned religion, which often led to persecution and heresy, with the belief that true Christianity is sustained by the new covenant and the work of the Holy Spirit rather than human enforcement. The discussion highlights the critical distinction between sins and crimes, asserting that while government should regulate civil interactions, it must not dictate matters of piety or worship. By citing figures like Roger Williams and Isaac Backus, the message emphasizes that Christ is the sole lawgiver of the church, and that religious freedom is essential for the authentic growth of the faith.
Sin, Guilt, and Forgiveness
2026/10/14
This sermon explores the theological progression from sin to forgiveness as outlined in Leviticus 5, emphasizing that sin inevitably produces guilt, which must be addressed through verbal confession. The message identifies three specific areas of human failure—silence in the face of injustice, violation of purity, and broken promises—to illustrate the pervasive nature of sin and the necessity of a clear conscience. It argues that the Old Testament sacrificial system was a temporary shadow pointing to Jesus Christ, the ultimate High Priest who provides true atonement through His sacrifice. The preacher encourages believers to respond to this grace with four specific actions: finding joy in their forgiven status, engaging in focused worship, striving for godly living, and sharing the Gospel with others. The tone is pastoral and instructional, aiming to move the audience from a burden of guilt to a life of elated gratitude and active discipleship.
