Being Prepared

Evil Returned upon our Head
2026/10/18
This sermon examines the narrative of Nabal and Abigail in 1 Samuel 25, contrasting the husband's stubbornness and evil deeds with his wife's wisdom and understanding. The preacher highlights how Nabal's harshness mirrors the stiff-necked behavior of Israel described in Judges, serving as a warning against suppressing known truth and acting in self-righteous vengeance. In response to Nabal's insult, David prepares for retribution, but Abigail intervenes with humility and provision, successfully averting bloodshed and demonstrating the power of wise counsel. The passage concludes with the Lord striking Nabal, illustrating that divine judgment is certain and operates on God's timing rather than human initiative. Ultimately, the sermon points to Christ as the greater David who endured revilement without retaliation, encouraging believers to trust in God's justice and avoid taking vengeance into their own hands.
A Divine Appointment
2026/10/18
The sermon examines the conversion of the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8 as a demonstration of God's sovereign providence and a practical blueprint for evangelism. It highlights six key principles: the honor given to gospel-centered ministry, the necessity of immediate obedience to God's call, the importance of following divine providence, the value of deep Scripture knowledge, the central focus on Jesus Christ, and the practice of believer's baptism. The preacher emphasizes that while God orchestrates every detail, believers are called to be prepared, humble agents who share the truth with gentleness and respect. The narrative serves as a reminder that God often works through unexpected encounters and ordinary people to bring salvation to the ends of the earth.
Daniel: A Lion Among Men Pt 4 "Equipped To Stand"
2026/10/18
This sermon explores the concept of divine workmanship by examining Daniel's three years of preparation in Babylon, framing his success not as a product of Babylonian education but as the result of God's sovereign provision. The central message emphasizes that God equips believers to stand firm in secular environments without compromising their identity, illustrating this through Daniel's refusal to be defiled and his subsequent excellence in wisdom and understanding. The text highlights the theological principle that talents are God-given gifts intended for His glory, urging listeners to reject false humility and actively steward their abilities. By contrasting the temporary nature of earthly kingdoms with the eternal sovereignty of God, the sermon encourages perseverance and faithfulness in small matters as the foundation for greater influence. Ultimately, it presents Daniel's life as a model of enduring faithfulness, challenging the audience to trust God's preparation and continue serving Him with integrity regardless of their circumstances.
From Courtship to Consummation: Christ Claims His Bride
2026/10/18
The sermon explores the prophetic narrative in Hosea 2, where God pursues, betroths, and ultimately marries His unfaithful bride, Israel, as a typology for the church. It outlines three stages of this divine relationship: the initial alluring of the people through comfort and restoration, the formal betrothal based on God's righteousness, justice, lovingkindness, and mercy, and the final consummation at the Second Coming. The preacher emphasizes that this covenant is not merely historical but is currently fulfilled in the lives of believers who are being sanctified by the Word of God. The message contrasts the temporary nature of false idols with the eternal, unbreakable bond of Christ's love, urging the congregation to view their present worship as the preparation for the eternal marriage supper of the Lamb.
Foundations Crumbling "Conference"
2026/10/18
Psalm 11 is significant because it addresses the challenge of remaining faithful to God when society's moral and spiritual foundations appear to be collapsing. David faces advice to flee from danger, as the wicked prepare their weapons and attack the upright, prompting the question, "If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?" (Psalm 11:3). Rather than surrendering to fear, David declares his trust in the LORD, who reigns from His holy throne, sees everything, examines the hearts of humanity, and will ultimately judge the wicked while upholding righteousness. In the context of "Foundations Crumbling," this psalm reminds believers that although earthly institutions, moral standards, and human security may fail, God's throne and righteous character remain unshaken. Christians are therefore called to stand firm in faith, resist the temptation to despair, and trust in God's sovereign justice and enduring righteousness, knowing that the LORD loves the righteous and remains their ultimate refuge even in times of widespread corruption and uncertainty.
Exodus 12A
2026/10/18
This sermon examines Exodus 12:1-6 to reveal the Passover lamb as the clearest Old Testament type of Jesus Christ. The exposition highlights how God established a new beginning for Israel, illustrating that salvation initiates a new life where Christ must be prioritized above all else. It emphasizes the sufficiency of Christ, noting that He is never too small to save any who come to Him by faith, and calls for parents to actively teach their children about this redemption. The message underscores the necessity of a spotless, sinless substitute, pointing to Jesus' perfect life and His willing death as the only means of escape from judgment. Ultimately, the sermon urges listeners to move beyond merely acknowledging Jesus as a religious figure to personally receiving Him as their own Lamb for salvation.
Have No Confidence in the Flesh (Part 2)
2026/10/18
Sunday Morning – October 18, 2026 Join us this Sunday morning as Pastor John Wheeler continues his message titled "Have No Confidence in the Flesh" from Philippians 3:4-6. Last Sunday's message warned against trusting in outward religion and personal accomplishments, and this morning's passage continues with Paul's own credentials and why he counted them as nothing compared to Christ. Come prepared to worship, hear the word of God faithfully preached, and be reminded where our trust belongs. Whether you're joining us in person or watching online, we're thankful to worship together.
"Homeward Bound: The Reverent Redeemed"
2026/10/18
What are Christians like? How are Christians different from our unsaved neighbors, coworkers, and friends as we journey through life in a world that is not our home? Christians are hopeful, says 1 Peter 1:13. Christians are holy, says verse 15. And Christians are reverent; we live in the fear of the Lord. "If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one's work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your sojourn," 1 Peter 1:17 (LSB). God's children live with reverent awe before their Father and Judge, knowing that He evaluates everything in our lives impartially. Ours is not the fear of condemnation awaiting those who have no refuge from God's wrath; it is the reverence of those who belong to a holy God and take seriously how they live before Him. Why do we live this way? Because we've been redeemed with the precious blood of Christ. Christians are the reverent redeemed. This Lord's Day, we'll continue our look at 1 Peter 1 and its call to godly living in a God-denying world. Join us as we consider, "Homeward Bound: The Reverent Redeemed." Prepare for Sunday: Read and meditate on 1 Peter 1:13-21, focusing on verses 17-21. Also read 2 Corinthians 5:9-10 and 1 John 3:1-3. What reasons does Peter give for Christians to live in reverent fear? How should we understand the call to fear God in light of the Bible's teaching that believers are forgiven and accepted by God? How should knowing that God judges impartially—and that Christ has redeemed us at such a cost—change the way we live?
A PAIR OF PARABLE ABOUT BEING PREPARED
2026/10/18
To prepare for Christ's return, He calls us to be faithful, not successful.
All Things Are Now Ready
2026/10/18
Jesus tells of a great supper whose invited guests put land, work, and home ahead of the host's call. Luke 14:15-24 exposes the danger of answering God's gracious invitation with ordinary excuses, even when those answers sound polite and reasonable. The prepared supper points us toward the generosity of grace, while the widening invitation reminds us that need and shame do not place a sinner beyond the Saviour's welcome. The message calls us to trust Christ now and carry the gospel earnestly to others. Scripture References: Luke 14:15-24 Ephesians 2:8-9

(18) Prepare for Christ the Judge
2026/10/18
Christ is "coming again to judge the living and the dead." That is one of the basic truths believers confess. So important is the final judgment that the Bible devotes almost an entire book to that theme. Revelation reveals the closing chapters of the great drama of human history—the conflict between the offspring of the serpent and the offspring of the woman. In the judgment God will affirm his love to his dear children. But upon those who reject him and have sided with Satan will be judged. The seven bowls of God's wrath are Scriptures most intense portrayal of God's judgment. Whatever we feel about the judgment, it is coming. But we ought to feel something about the judgment. More than that, we ought to respond with godly zeal to the warnings God gives about the judgment. In Revelation, the Lord previews for his church "the things that must soon take place" to encourage them as they endure tribulation (Rev. 1:9).
