Welcome back to MU! As AI and automation get better & better at doing our jobs, they may also be slowly doing away with the way humans have always learned to become good at them. With examples from robotic surgery, Michelin kitchens, warehouses, bomb disposal, banking, and more, our second installment of Matt Beane’s The Skill Code explores how we build real expertise, and how intelligent machines could either hollow that process out or help create an entirely new kind of apprenticeship.  Welcome to your Plus+ extension, and thank you all for joining us on Plus+! Buddhists believe that millions of super cool people reside in this underworld paradise called Agartha. Their daily lives and their destiny are directed by a wise, all-powerful ruler known as Rigden-jyepo, also known as the King of the World. Rigden-jyepo kicks it in Shamballah, the capital city of Agartha, which is allegedly accessed through many secret entrances from the surface world, found hidden within the towering monasteries of Tibet, guarded by jolly llamas sworn to protect the secrets of the underworld. Welcome to Mysterious Universe Season 36, episode 11! According to Buddhist doctrine, Agartha is a subterranean land located deep within the center of our planet. Buddhists believe millions of people live in this underground paradise. Their lives and destinies are directed by an all-powerful and all-wise ruler. What wonders lie just beneath us all? We are here today to begin a fascinating saga series titled This Hollow Earth, based on the work of Warren Smith in his 1977 book, This Hollow Earth - The astounding investigation into the 'lost worlds' beneath our planet’s surface. We are here to ask: is the story of Agharta nothing more than a fun fable, or is there truth behind the legend? Do we know the Earth is solid, with varying layers of deep, dense material that terminates in a solid molten core? Or could there be vast inhabitable spaces we would be astounded to experience? In Plus+, we look into the growing train of thought that AI and automation are getting better at doing our jobs, and how they may also be slowly dismantling the way humans have always learned to become good at them. From robotic surgery to Michelin kitchens, Matt Beane’s The Skill Code explores how we build real expertise, and how intelligent machines could either destroy that process, or help create an entirely new kind of apprenticeship.  This Hollow Earth: The Astounding Investigation Into the Lost World Beneath Our Planet's Surface Hollow Earth Theories: A List of References Royal Society's portraits of Edmond Halley, and a diagram of Halley's curious model for the internal structure of the Earth Secret of the Ages - UFOs from Inside the Earth The Sky People The Smoky God: A Voyage to the Inner World The Skill Code: How to Save Human Ability in an Age of Intelligent Machines LinksPlus+ ExtensionThe extension of the show is EXCLUSIVE to Plus+ Members. Welcome back to MU! This week we take a look at Why Time Flies by Alan Burdick and find out that even “official” time is a negotiated average built from clocks around the world. Then we move into the story of Michel Siffre, who removed himself from daylight, clocks, calendars, and ordinary human routine, and his cave experiments reveal just how quickly the body's internal rhythms can drift when they're cut loose from the outside world. Welcome to your Plus+ Extension, and thank you all for joining us on Plus+! Animals, along with all living things, are affected by cosmic rhythms and celestial cycles. Snails and crabs live by the tides, even in laboratories nowhere near the ocean. Cats with internal clocks that can be adjusted on command. Disappearing dogs that return without fail every Christmas. Biological clocks are nature's timing systems here to help regulate the behavior of all forms of life. From the simplest organism to man himself, and do so quite efficiently. Today we enjoy the 1970 book The Strange World of Animals and Pets by Vincent and Margaret Gaddis. Dedicated to all the pets, who rule us with an iron paw. Including, but certainly not limited to, a remarkably perceptive mentalist detective who solves an impossible quadruple murder case in Canada. For our Plus+ extension, we conclude the amazing journey through Spontaneous Human Combustion by Jenny Randles & Peter Hough. We take a look at more electrical possibilities including atmospheric effects, individual biology/chemistry, and some final thoughts on what this odd phenomenon could possibly be.  Strange Powers of the Mind by Warren Smith  Count Ostoja Rises from his Grave Spontaneous Human Combustion LinksPlus+ ExtensionThe extension of the show is EXCLUSIVE to Plus+ Members. Welcome to Mysterious Universe Season 36 episode 03! Today, we take a deep breath and entertain that which we have many a time maligned with a look at the work of Lyssa Royal and Keith Priest with their book, Visitors From Within. Though we are skeptical, that skepticism is harmonized with a keen awareness of the variety of freaky woo woo found around us, and the stone-cold fact that all sides of a story doth make’th a story, not just the one we emotionally prefer. In our Plus+ extension, we continue the wild stories from Jerome Clark’s 2000 book Extraordinary Encounters. From the bizarre case of a UFO-less Gray encounter at a motel, to mince pie stealing entities, and finally a well-known case of nude Venusians evading the camera, we wrangle the weirdest of tales for our elite Plus+ members! Welcome back to MU! In our continuation of Emanuel Swedenborg's works, he claims that for years he spoke with spirits from Mercury, Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, Venus, the Moon, and even worlds beyond our solar system. We follow his incredible cosmic travelogue, exploring how each civilization lives, worships, and contributes its own unique role in what he called the "Universal Human"...his vision of a living, inhabited universe, unlike anything else written in the 18th century. Welcome to your Plus Extension and thank you for joining us on Plus+! Today we happen upon some freaky happenings on, in, and around the strange area of a ceremonial county in Northwest England known as Lancashire. The Woo Woo concentrated in the area was enough for Author Terrence W. Witaker to fill a book with. This charming 1980 release is populated with priest holes, stacks of murders and therefore stacks of ghosts, unscrupulous Boggarts and, of course, screaming skulls that come included with the purchase of your new manor. Welcome to Mysterious Universe Season 36 episode 01! Kicking this fresh new season off with a look at the uber-religious view of what happens after they die. Christians believe that death is not the end, but the beginning of an eternal existence based on faith in Jesus. The afterlife centers on the promise of a restored, perfect world-often described as a renewed Earth-where believers experience unhindered joy, total healing, and the continual presence of God. Today, we talk death, dying, and your right to die. That includes a 30-minute-in-heaven near-death trip to a crystal city in the sky to hang out with super Jesus. Only to be pulled back into your body by a death-rebuking reverend, who you asked to be there. Hold onto your belief systems as we talk “Beyond and Back”, with some near-death-experiencing , after-life visiting Christian’s. In our Plus+ extension we go into Walter Russell's The Secret of Light. Russell's classic workpresents a vision of reality where consciousness, not matter, is the foundation of the universe. We attempt to present his ideas about Light, balance, electricity, cycles, and the wave nature of creation, exploring a worldview that attempts to unite science, spirituality, and philosophy into one broad explanation of existence. Welcome back to the final episode of Season 35! This week we dive into one of the strangest corners of UFO lore: the world of ancient tunnel systems, hidden civilizations, and secret cities beneath the Earth. From tunnels under Mt. Lassen, to military/alien underground facilities, and the legendary Rainbow City, we pull a few tales from Commander X's 1990 cult classic and explore a sprawling mythology that helped shape modern conspiracy culture. Welcome to your Plus Extension as we wrap up Season 35 with a bang! We have a lot to get to with our wrap-up on this sexy-ass, silly-ass topic. We have been exploring the claims, accounts, and fairly uncool sex-periences of some unsuspecting, unwilling, and irretrievably affected human individuals who have been brave or baffled enough to contact Budd Hopkins and allow him to offer us their experiences in vivid detail to better innerstand…something deep and profound, I’m sure. What that is will only be revealed by looking beyond the surface to what lies beneath. There is gold lying in wait in the wake of these murky waters that offers a peek behind the fourth wall that no one asked for. What does one do when one finds oneself nose to absence of nose with those who claim they are on a mighty quest to save that which they themselves have admittingly destroyed? Fortuitously encountering you, along their journey for Sur-thrival and deemed lucky you scoop-up-able simply for being in their path. Like so much wildlife in some sort of unannounced breeding program that you remain ignorantly unaware of the role that you play concerning their “cosmic” visions for some grand design or even just a simple curiosity. Thank you for joining us as we ponder the peculiar puzzle that is the genetic interest and undertaking of the exceptionally icky. Is this Woo Woo just trying to get its Freak on? Or is this something much more disturbing? For our Plus+ extension, we cover Anita Moorjani's Dying to Be Me, one of the most remarkable and widely discussed near-death experience accounts of the modern era. We follow her journey from a multicultural upbringing in Hong Kong, through years of fear, people-pleasing, and a devastating battle with lymphoma, to the extraordinary experience she reported during a 2006 coma and the unexpected recovery that followed. Along the way, we explore identity, mortality, and the idea that sometimes the hardest thing in life is simply being yourself.
