For the latest Everything Action Commentary, with Lee Cronin's The Mummy out in theaters this month, Zach and Chris went back to where it all began and watched the original 1932 classic, The Mummy. Starring Boris Karloff, coming off his star-making turn in Frankenstein, as Imhotep, he's an Egyptian high priest who was cursed and buried alive when he tried to use the sacred Scroll of Thoth to bring his beloved Ankh-es-en-Amon back to life.  Unearthed by archaeologists in 1921, Imhotep rises from the dead and assumes the guise of Ardeth Bay to continue his plan to resurrect his love, whom he believes is now reincarnated as Helen Grosvenor (Zita Johann). Billy Zane plays Kit Walker, aka The Phantom, a pulp superhero who battles pirates and other evildoers from his island home of Bengalla.  When evil businessman Xander Drax (Treat Williams) begins hunting for a trio of powerful artifacts, the Skulls of Touganda, Kit has to team up with his former girlfriend, Diana Palmer (Kristy Swanson), to try and get the Skulls before Drax.  Zach and Chris discuss Treat Williams's wonderfully evil performance, whether Kit could always fire a laser from his skull ring and just didn't know it, the pirate hideout that looks like a dinner theater, whether seeing ghosts is a Phantom power or just mental illness, and more. This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris are on patrol with the Crimson Bolt and discussing 2010's Super as a slew of violent superhero content is out now, including the premiere of the final season of The Boys. Directed and written by James Gunn, Rainn Wilson plays religious short-order cook Frank Darbo.  When his wife Sarah (Liv Tyler) slips back into her former life of drugs and leaves him for local drug kingpin Jacques (Kevin Bacon), Frank has a vision from God and becomes a vigilante known as the Crimson Bolt, who beats down criminals with a pipe wrench.  Ultimately seeking to rescue Sarah from Jacques, Frank is joined by local comic book store clerk Libby (Elliot Page), who joins his crusade as the "kid" sidekick Bolty.  Zach and Chris discuss how much Troma influence there is in the movie, how Jacques was originally going to be played by Jean-Claude Van Damme, the James Gunn regulars who appear, the shockingly brutal violence, and more. This week on the Everything Actioncast, fresh from PAX East, Zach and Chris are still in a gaming state of mind and discuss 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hits theaters. Starring Chris Pratt and Charlie Day as Mario and Luigi, the Mario Brothers are sucked into a warp pipe under Brooklyn and end up in the Mushroom Kingdom.  While Luigi is captured by the evil forces of Bowser (Jack Black), Mario ends up in the kingdom of Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) and joins her on a quest to recruit the Kong Army and defeat Bowser.  Zach and Chris discuss how the brother's plumbing ad would have gone viral, why the Kong society is based around go-karts, the numerous needle drops, how Princess Peach being a badass connects to the classic Nintendo Power Super Mario World manga and more. This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris celebrate the 35th anniversary of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze, right after hosting a panel at PAX East on the history of TMNT games. Released a year after the first live-action TMNT, The Secret of the Ooze finds Shredder back for revenge and acquiring the same green ooze that transformed the Turtles and Splinter, which he uses to create his own mutant warriors, Tokka and Rahzar.  With the help of TGRI scientist Dr. Perry (David Warner), April O'Neil (Paige Turco), and martial arts pizza boy Keno (Ernie Reyes Jr.), the Turtles have to jump back into action and save the city again.  Zach and Chris discuss when exactly this takes place after the first movie, the more kid-friendly tone, the Foot Clan letting things play out, the Ninja Rap, and more. For the latest Everything Action Commentary, Zach and Chris experience some March Madness with the 2017 black comedy, Mom and Dad. Directed by Brian Taylor, formerly of Neveldine/Taylor and Crank fame, Nicolas Cage and Selma Blair star as parents Brent and Kendall Ryan, who, along with seemingly every other parent on the planet, go into a homicidal madness that makes them want to kill their kids.  Their kids Carly (Anne Winters) and Joshua (Zackary Arthur) have to find a way to survive their parents and hope that the mysterious madness eventually fades.  While watching the movie, Zach and Chris try to figure out how far it's willing to go and discuss the amazing scene where Nicolas Cage destroys a pool table, how Carly's boyfriend, Damon (Robert T. This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris head to the end of the rainbow and 1993's horror/comedy cult classic, Leprechaun, as we just celebrated St. Patrick's Day, and the movie has gotten a new 4K (and VHS!) release from Lionsgate Limited. In one of his defining roles, Warwick Davis stars as The Leprechaun, a malevolent supernatural being who is obsessed with his gold coins, killing anyone who comes into possession of them.  When teenager Tory (Jennifer Anniston) arrives to spend the summer at her father's new country farmhouse, dim-witted contractor Ozzie Jones (Mark Holton) accidentally releases The Leprechaun from his capture in the farmhouse's basement, and he goes on a rampage to get his coins back, which Ozzie and 10-year-old Alex (Robert Hy Gorman) found nearby.  Zach and Chris discuss The Leprechaun's various forms of transportation, the rules of the bag of gold coins, death by pogo stick, Jennifer Anniston basically playing Rachel, and more. This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris make an Executive Decision to talk about the 90s action thriller as it turns 30, and with both Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and The Madison bringing us a bunch of Kurt Russell on streaming. Kurt stars as Dr. David Grant, an intelligence consultant to the US government who is called in when a plane flying from Athens to Washington D.C. is hijacked,  Believing there is a deadly nerve agent on-board and that the terrorist leader Hassan (David Suchet) is most likely planning on using the plane as a massive bomb to spread the agent, a risky mid-air infiltration is launched.  Grant joins a special forces team, led by Col. Austin Travis (Steven Seagal), to use an experimental stealth plane called the Remora to get on board, defuse the bomb, and take out the terrorists.  Zach and Chris talk about how shocking it was to see Seagal die shortly into the movie, the montage that feels like the Previously On... of a TV show, how insanely overcomplicated the terrorists' bomb is, how the movie feels extremely Tom Clancy, and more. The film that brought Jackie Chan into the mainstream in the West, Rumble in the Bronx finds the martial arts legend playing Keung, who comes to the US to attend his Uncle Bill's (Bill Tung) wedding and finds himself under attack from a local motorcycle gang and, later, a crime syndicate run by the ruthless White Tiger (Kris Lord).  Zach and Chris discuss the insane locations, including the night club with a live tiger, how getting run over by a hovercraft doesn't seem that bad, Danny (Morgan Lam) playing a Game Gear with no game in it, the surprisingly brutal scene where Jackie gets pelted with glass bottles, and more. To celebrate the Lunar New Year this month, Zach and Chris watched the 2024 Chinese action comedy Panda Plan for the latest Everything Action Commentary. Jackie Chan stars as a fictionalized version of himself, who is invited to an island zoo to adopt a new baby panda with extremely rare eye color.  The celebration is interrupted by armed mercenaries, who have been hired by a wealthy client to kidnap the panda.  Jackie, along with his bumbling manager, David (Wei Xiang), and panda nanny, Su Xiaozhu (Shi Ce), has to protect the baby panda, Hu Hu, and stay one step ahead of the mercenaries. While watching the movie, Zach and Chris discuss the massive amount of Dairy Queen product placement, the "high-speed" forklift chase, milking a rhinoceros, the shockingly violent film Jackie is filming before heading to the zoo, the massive emotional twist at the end, and more. Rutger Hauer stars as John Ryder, a terrifying hitchhiking serial killer who targets Jim Halsey (C. Thomas Howell), who is on the road trying to deliver a car from Chicago to San Diego.  Ryder starts to stalk and terrorize Jim, pushing him to the edge and trying to get him to finally snap and kill Ryder.  Zach and Chris discuss Hauer's amazing performance, the odd business of drive-away car delivery, the bizarre cut-away from the most horrific moment in the film, how everyone in the area besides Jennifer Jason Leigh's Nash is a trigger-happy cop, and more. Christian Slater and John Travolta star as Riley Hale and Vic "Deak" Deakins, who co-pilot the stealth bomber.  On an exercise where they are transporting live B83 nuclear bombs, Deak turns traitor and tries to kill Riley, ultimately ejecting him from the plane.  Deak has had an elaborate plan in place to steal the nukes and ransom them back to the US government, or else he'll detonate a bomb in a city.  Riley teams up with park ranger Terry Carmichael (Samantha Mathis) to stop Deak and recover the nukes.  Zach and Chris discuss the ridiculous opening boxing match between Riley and Deak, Riley and Terry never introducing themselves to each other until the final scene, the arrow-like design of the nuclear bomb core, the big acting debut for Howie Long, and more. Bryan Brown stars as Rollie Tyler, a movie special effects artist who is recruited by the Department of Justice to help fake the murder of a mafia informant in witness protection.  Rollie pulls off the job, but the DoJ tries to kill him, and they murder his girlfriend, Ellen (Diane Venora).  NYPD detective Leo McCarthy (Brian Dennehy) investigates Ellen's death and starts to figure out that there might be some corrupt government agents behind everything.  Zach and Chris discuss how it's a bit odd for the movie to take place in New York City and not Los Angeles, the clunky nature of 80s special effects technology, Rollie getting a bunch of innocent people killed, using special effects as weapons in the finale, and more. This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris make things look like an accident and discuss 2011's The Mechanic, which came out 15 years ago this week, and just as a new Statham movie, Shelter, hits theaters. A remake of the 1972 Charles Bronson film, Jason Statham stars as Arthur Bishop, a "Mechanic" who is contracted to pull off elaborate assassinations, most of which are designed to look like accidental deaths.  Forced to kill his mentor, Harry McKenna (Donald Sutherland), Arthur takes Harry's angry son, Steven (Ben Foster), under his wing and trains him in the art of assassination.  Zach and Chris discuss differences between this version and the Bronson version, Ben Foster's belief that he can take on a massive Arena football player in hand-to-hand combat, how this feels more like a Hitman video game adaptation than the actual Hitman movies, David Leitch vs. Statham, and more.
