What If I Just Said No?
2025/10/10
A question and an email from Steven’s younger sister prompt this episode, and get us wondering: What if we didn’t do everything (and anything) anyone (and everyone) wanted us to do? Could there be health benefits to saying no in middle age? And how do you tell the difference between what to take on and what to let go?
Plus weeks in review, family camping trips, eating well while on your own, and the benefits of weekly mileage instead of just long weekend runs.

There are not as many mentions of how stupid and whacky we are in this ep, thank goodness

Get Regular (You Know What We Mean)
2025/09/26
In this episode we refer regularly to an article called “Fecal Incontinence Becomes More Common With Age.” So that gives you a bit of an idea of what you’re in for.
Join us as we talk pelvic floors, shifting microbiomes, can’t-eat lists, self-knowledge, anxiety-induced tummy troubles, rampant leaf-blowers, odes to bread, and Downton Abbey. Happy moving your bowels!

Read
2025/09/12
It’s our very first episode of the Two Gomers Podcast with a one-word title, but here’s the really interesting part: it’s about the health benefits of reading books, and books have LOTS of words in them! See? Really interesting!
Join us as we talk about our histories of reading, all the ways reading can be healthier than watching TV (even though we love TV and recorded an entire Bonus Disc ep about TV immediately after this one), cognitive reserve, theory of mind, empathy, bibliotherapy, stick-to-it-iveness, focus, and whether you can read while snacking. Also we say teat a lot – but that’s not our fault, it’s Stephen King’s. Happy reading!

Is Zone 2 Right For Zone You?
2025/08/30
We’re talking heart rates in this running-heavy episode, and taking a look at a way to exercise that’s getting a lot of attention these days: Zone 2 Training. What is it? How does it help make cardio more effective? Are there fun formulas to help figure it all out? The answer to that last one is a resounding yes, and the guys work it out together. Plus accidental NYC racing, romance running, Grand Canyon chat, and K-Pop Demon Hunters.

Have a Good Afternoon
2025/08/15
It the final episode of our Truman Quadrilogy (“Good Morning…and if I don’t see you later: Good Afternoon, Good Evening and Good Night!) and we’re in a midday kind of mood. We examined that little-talked-about (and little-loved) time of the day after lunch and before dinner where are all those weights we carry feel just a little heavier. Power naps! Protein snacks! Meditation! Walks! What helps us pursue health not only in middle age, but in the middle of the day? Splash some water on your face and join us as we seek to stay awake long enough to find out.

GomeRewind: Shin Splints and Fall TV
2025/08/08
This Season 1 episode first aired in September 2008 as Episode 3 and has a TON of gems:
Anthony runs for an hour by accident
“Just Do It” is the Gomers Tip for the first time (of many)
Steven reveals his height, weight, and that he snores too much
It’s only the third episode and the Song To Run To is Switchfoot adjacent for the second time
2008-Steven gets on his soapbox about the show “Heroes” and that gave 2025-Steven embarrassed-for-himself-goosebumps when he listened to it yesterday

Let Go of Grudges
2025/08/01
“Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.” – Nelson Mandela or St Augustine or Buddha or someone
This is a big one folks. Steven’s got a story to tell, and we think it’s going to knock your socks off, especially if you’ve been with us for a while. As he tells it, the guys dig deep into the downsides of unforgiveness and the health benefits of letting things go – to the forgiven person, yes, but even more to the person doing the forgiving. Plus Deloreans, notes between daughters, living in the dorms again as an adult, nursing injuries, whether Steven actually likes running, and when Anthony first slept in a bed.

Rewind – Season 1 Episode 2: This is Gonna Be Hard
2025/07/25
Hop in your Delorean and travel back with us to 2008 for Season 1 Episode 2, where we talk laughing dads, midwestern accents, whether this podcast will just be us whining and complaining, how much Anthony weighs and how tall he is, and shaking off a crappy day at work with the help of Jimmy Eat World. See you next week in the present!

Go For a Run
2025/07/18
Anthony and Steven have been going for runs for almost two decades. But running in middle age just hits different. So let’s talk about it: what are the specific challenges of running NOW? And what are the (many) benefits? And are there any benefits that don’t feel as…beneficial anymore?
All this plus a Shorts Summer update, Post-Its clarifications, a new Gomerism (from one of the Gomers’ moms) that is bound to become part of the lore of the podcast, and the pleasures of taking a really long time to read a book about magic dogs. Oh, and some Head-On-Collision chaaaaat! Don’t forget to tune in next week for a rewind to Season 1 Episode 2!

Season 1 Rewind - Episodes 0 and 1: Feedback From a Rockstar
2025/07/11
In case you missed it, in Season 13 we will alternate between past and present, releasing current episodes, like last week’s, and Season 1 episodes, like this one. Our hope is to take advantage of this amazing gift (our past selves, on tape) to motivate, inspire, and enrich our journey as we tackle the same goal, 17 years later: running a half marathon together, and inviting a nation (you) along for the run.
So here we are, our first (and zeroth) episode ever! Marvel at the fact that our friendship pre-podcast is shorter than our active, podcasting friendship. Cringe at the poor recording quality (and absolutely nothing else). Struggle along with us on our first, cotton-clad jogs. And yes, Steven does call Anthony’s wife “hot.” But apparently she was flattered.
Join us next week as we return to the present! Happy Running!

The Grand Reopening
2025/07/04
The Gomers are back with the grand reopening of Season 13 after a five-month hiatus! Anthony and Steven reflect on their time away, share life updates, and consider all the lessons learned – including what they Started, Kept Doing, and Stopped. Then is the big preview of the new season and the return of a major challenge: training for the same half marathon they ran 17 years ago. 2025 episodes will alternate between Season 1 eps as we explore growth, setbacks, and second chances, and how many people we used to love who are now cancelled. Plus, we touch on everything from Bob Ross to The Life of Chuck to upcoming Patreon exclusives to pumping iron. We’re back baby!
