Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in Cape Breton on Thursday to announce $13.3 million in funding to fast-track construction of 367 housing units over the next three years.

Dr. Felix Odartey-Wellington is an Associate Professor of Communication at CBU. He speaks about the work being done at the university today.

A group of Cape Breton University students is helping folks who want to get back in the workforce. They are collecting interview appropriate clothing as part of a community action project. The clothing will then be given to community groups who will distribute to those in need. Jeffrey Genter, Abbi Finney, Hunter Donovan, Harshdeep Kaur are some of the students working on the project. They spoke with Mainstreet's Holly Conners.

Samantha Lowes and her spouse Darryl Boudreau live in Dutch Brook, a rural community on the outskirts of Sydney. Lowes said her house lost power on Saturday evening after a days-long storm brought as much as 150 centimeters of snow to some areas in her community. Her family was without power or water for nearly five days.

Perla MacLeod represents district 2, which includes Nyanza, Hunter’s Mountain, Big Baddeck, and Middle River. Fraser Patterson represents district 5, which includes the Victoria County part of Boularderie island.

Clarence Dawe is a senior who lives in Sydney Mines. His property was damaged during post tropical storm Fiona and he is still dealing with the impact on his home. He has reached out for government assistance and has not received what he calls a fair deal.

Last week, the province announced Pallet shelters will be placed in Whitney Pier. The shelters will be co-managed by New Dawn Enterprise and the Ally Centre in Sydney. Residents have asked why there was no public consultation in the matter. Alyce MacLean is a Project Manager with New Dawn.

Gordon MacDonald represents district 1, which includes Sydney Mines, the Tobin Rd area of North Sydney, Florence, Little Pond, and Alder Point. Earlene MacMullin represents district 2, which includes most of North Sydney, Bras d’Or, Millville, and the CBRM part of Boularderie island.

George Cann was in the Merchant Navy. He was honored at the the Branch 126 in Westmount. The CBC's Erin Pottie spoke with George and David Keeping. David Keeping is a Sergeant-at-Arms and he arranged the special ceremony.
