When we rely on our own wisdom, our culture, or our own strength, we risk repeating Israel’s mistake. But when we place our trust in the Messiah, we find the hope, peace, and security we long for. “The Valley Still Has a Shepherd: Recap” As we conclude this series, we return to one central truth woven throughout the Psalms: the Shepherd is always with us. No valley - no matter how dark, dry, or overwhelming - is walked alone. Whether we feel weary, anxious, lonely, afraid, angry, doubtful, ashamed, or grieved, God has not abandoned us. He guides, restores, and strengthens His people. In this recap message, we reflect on each valley we’ve explored and are reminded that in every season, God is worthy of praise. In Psalm 63, David cries out to God from a place of deep isolation. Yet even in his loneliness, he declares that God’s presence is better than life itself—better than solutions, better than changed circumstances, better than anything the world could offer. Loneliness is a real valley, one that leaves many searching for belonging, comfort, or distraction. But only God can truly fill the emptiness within us. The world may promise satisfaction, but it will always leave us thirsty. In this message, we’re reminded to look to the Good Shepherd who meets us in our loneliness. Seek Him, cling to Him, and let His presence become your peace and your joy.

In Psalm 109, David brings his deepest emotions—his pain, frustration, and anger—honestly before God. There are moments in life when anger takes hold, whether from injustice, hurt, or disappointment. But even in the valley of anger, the Shepherd is still with us. God invites us to bring our emotions to Him, to trust Him with our hearts even when we’re at our worst. As we come before the God of the universe, we must remember that He is always worthy of our praise. Even if nothing changes right away, we can trust that our Good Shepherd will guide us through the valley and bring peace to our hearts.

In Psalm 73, the psalmist wrestles with doubt... seeing evil prosper while the righteous suffer. It’s a question many of us have asked: Why do bad things happen to good people? When life feels unfair, doubt can creep in and shake our faith. But even in the valley of doubt, the Shepherd is still there. God sees the bigger picture, and His goodness never changes. When we bring our struggles honestly before Him, His truth gives us a new perspective. In the end, we can stand firm knowing that God is good and that His glory and justice will prevail.

How can being in awe of God change the way we see ourselves and our circumstances? In Psalm 8, David reflects on the majesty of God—the Creator of the heavens who still cares deeply for us. Even in the valley, the Shepherd is worthy of our praise. When we shift our focus from our problems to the greatness of the King of kings, we find strength to keep going. Awe reminds us who God is and who we are in Him. The valley still has a Shepherd, and when we set our minds on the One who leads us, our hearts are lifted even in the lowest places.

There are many reasons we can find ourselves sinking into the valley of desperation... grief, worry, sickness, sin, or shame. Sometimes it feels like the deeper we go, the darker it gets, and the harder it becomes to see a way out. In Psalm 143, David cries out to God in his own moment of desperation, seeking not just relief, but the will of God. When we are in our lowest moments, we too can reach out to the Shepherd who hears us. Seeking God’s will means surrendering our situation to Him and allowing Him to mold and change us through it - no matter the outcome. In the valley of desperation, will you call out to your Lord and trust Him to lead you through?

In Psalm 27, David faced moments of deep fear and uncertainty, yet he placed his confidence in God... the One who was his light, salvation, and stronghold. We all encounter seasons when fear threatens to overwhelm us, when circumstances seem too complex or uncertain to face alone. But even in the valley of fear, the Shepherd is with us. When our confidence is in ourselves, fear can consume us; but when our confidence is in God, we find courage and peace. He is our strength and our salvation. Will you place your confidence in Him and trust Him to lead you out of the valley of fear?
