Evolution of Mike | 627
2026/09/14
Back from Milan and Punkadeka Festival, so I get into the trip and the food first. Then your calls. A listener in Athens asks if you can be a real fan of a band you have never seen live. A caller who watched our Warped Tour set asks about my voice, so I go through sleep, hydration, and how I prep before a show. Hannah in Carolina asks how my songwriting has changed.
Plus a letter from a fan in Italy, and Jake in Texas turning a room in his house into a free venue called the Tile Room.
mxpx.com has tour dates. Orlando Warped Tour November 15. Australia December 3, 4 and 5 for Good Things Festival in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. New album, Living in the Chaos, is coming.

623 Si Short - The Jack Knives
2026/08/17
Si Short from the Jack Knives is my guest this week. He grew up in England, moved to the States at 22, and now lives in Southern California. He took 10 years off from bands, started writing again in Hawaii, and the Jack Knives grew out of Thursday night jams into a fully independent band playing House of Blues and the Fillmore.
We get into building a following brick by brick instead of buying followers, what streaming data tells you about where to play, why live streams reach a totally different audience, and how the band balances tours with day jobs and families. Si also explains why he pushes the band to promote a record for a year instead of three months, and tells the story of getting his bass player turned away at the Canadian border before a Vancouver show.
The new Jack Knives album, Negative Spaces, is out November 6 on Fumie Records, produced by Pete Steinkopf of the Bouncing Souls. This fall they play shows with Dave Hause and The Mermaid, headline dates in Germany, Austria and England, and a run with the Bouncing Souls, the Flatliners and Suicide Machines. Find everything at thejackknives.com.

2026/08/10
My guest this week is Mike Frazier, a singer-songwriter from the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. He lives in Seattle now. The first time he was here was his first podcast ever, 10 years ago. We talk about the two years of symptoms nobody could figure out, the brain surgery, and April Days, the album he wrote after it. He plays April Days live in the studio. Make sure you guys follow Mike Frazier VA, and check out April Days.
MxPx is on all the Warped Tours coming up. Montreal is August 21, then Mexico City and Orlando. We're in Milan September 5 for Punkadeka Festival, our only European show. mxpx.com, anything we have going on is right there.

621 Bill Stevenson Descendents / ALL
2026/08/03
Bill Stevenson is on the show. He's the drummer for legendary punk bands Descendents and ALL, he also played in Black Flag, and he produced our first live album, MxPx - At the Show. We get into songwriting, how he stays fast behind the kit at 62, the early Black Flag days, and taking his son Miles out on tour with Jon Snodgrass and Miles' band All My Senses.
Bill, Miles, and Snodgrass are out this August, running from Indianapolis and Chicago up to Tillsonburg, Ontario for a full ALL set at Buddies Fest, then Detroit. Descendents tour this fall with Social Distortion and the Chats.

620 The Dwarves | Blag Dahlia
2026/07/27
Blag Dahlia returns for his third time on the podcast. The Dwarves have a new album out called Jenkem, and Blag explains exactly what the title refers to, which I immediately regret.
From there we run through the worst heat wave in European history, arguing about flat earth with your own bass player, the Stray Cats and the clean rockabilly problem, why image decided which punk bands got big and which didn't, AI and where an artist draws the line, and the difference between a person and the role he plays on stage. Yeah, it's a lot.
619 Larry and His Flask
2026/07/20
My guest this week is Larry and His Flask. Got three of the guys: Ian Cook, Jeshua Marshall, and Jamin Marshall. If you don't know them, they're an Americana punk band out of Bend, Oregon, and they're back after seven years off the road. We talk about busking, how they went from an electric punk band to an acoustic one, and the 3 shows in March that turned into 30. Make sure you guys follow Larry and His Flask, and check out larryandhisflasks.com.
And check out mxpx.com. We've got merch, we've got vinyl. We're at Warped Tour in Long Beach, California this weekend. We're on all the Warped Tours. We're in Milan September 5 for Punkadeka Festival. mxpx.com.

618 What's Up Doc?
2026/07/13
Gearing up for Warped Tour Long Beach, and how Warped Tour meet-and-greets work.
Cyrus calls in with questions about our documentaries, It Came From Bremerton, B-Movie, and Both Ends Burning, and I walk through how each one came together. Shannon calls in and sings her own version of "Wrecking Hotel Rooms," and it's great. JJ from Alaska asks about the new Sterling by Music Man Stingray bass and what makes it play so well.

617 The Happy Birthday Episode
2026/07/06
Happy birthday to MxPx! But age doesn't matter unless you're a cheese or so they say. Mike marks it by telling the full story of how the band got started in 1992: a rented Flying V, a garage-sale snare drum, and a drummer who'd barely played before their first practice. One week later, MxPx played their first show ever, a backyard barbecue, and played the whole set twice in one day. Mike also answers a longtime fan question about the real story behind "Wrecking Hotel Rooms," co-written with Mark Hoppus. Your voicemails and news on the upcoming album Living in the Chaos.
616 Punk Rock Pizza Boy
2026/06/29
What is up with you guys? We got a great episode this week. We played Warped Tour in DC, I played the World Cup fan zone in downtown Bremerton, the town I grew up in, and we announced the new MxPx album, Living in the Chaos. Then I got into your voicemails and ended up telling a bunch of stories about how I got into punk back in the day, the local Bremerton scene, and the bass. Thanks for calling in. Keep them coming.
New album: MxPx, Living in the Chaos. More at livinginthechaos.net.
