The Power of a Good Word
2026/10/30
Who in your life needs your words right now? One genuine word from another man can lift what anxiety has been pressing down.
Chris closes out our week in Proverbs 12 with a verse every man understands from the inside. Solomon describes anxiety as a weight, and the Hebrew carries the idea of being pressed low or bent under something heavy. Most men know what it’s like to feel like a shrunken version of themselves while acting as if everything is fine. Chris names the “I’m fine” lie. The funniest guy in the group may be the one lying awake at 2 a.m., and the guy killing it at work may be avoiding going home. But Solomon says the cure doesn’t have to be a counseling session or a solution to every problem. It can be a good word.
Somewhere in your world right now, a man is weighed down and waiting for a word you haven’t said to him yet. Solomon is telling you that you have more power over another man’s inner life than you think, and most of us are badly underusing it. One intentional, well-placed, sincere word can begin to lift what’s been pressing a man down. This is where the whole week comes together: a rooted man, working his land, sowing healing words, and planning peace becomes a man who can lift others. Chris then practices what he preaches and speaks a good word over every man listening. Your hidden root work is seen by heaven. You are not behind, not too late, and not too far gone. You are a man God is building.
Verse of the Day: Proverbs 12:25 (ESV)
Your Daily Man-Up Challenge
Ask God to show you one man in your life who is quietly carrying more than he’s letting on. It could be your dad, your best friend, your son, or a coworker. Speak a true, intentional, life-giving word to him today. Then share this episode with another man who needs to hear it.

A Man of Peace
2026/10/29
Are you a man of peace or conflict?
Today’s verse looks at the theme of integrity from a new angle: the difference between a man whose heart is whole and a man whose heart is divided. Our culture loves conflict and admires the man who confronts. Sometimes confronting what’s wrong is the most righteous thing a man can do. But Chris argues that we enjoy it a little too much, and that Scripture keeps calling men to bring peace. In Proverbs 12:20, Solomon sets the deceitful heart that devises evil against the man who plans peace, and he promises that man something better than applause.
The man who promotes peace isn’t soft. He’s the strongest man in the room. Planning peace isn’t avoiding conflict or keeping your head down. It’s active. This man walks into a room asking how he can build a bridge, fix what’s broken, and bring people together. Sometimes that means a hard conversation. Either way, the goal is never “look what I did,” but “look at the peace we brought here.” Solomon says this man has joy, the deep satisfaction of living in line with who he really is. But you can’t plan peace if you don’t have it yourself. A man who performs in every room, whose inside doesn’t match his outside, has nothing to give. The man of peace doesn’t need to manipulate or strong-arm anyone. He is simply himself, and that is the fruit of a deeply rooted man.
Verse of the Day: Proverbs 12:20 (ESV)
Your Daily Man-Up Challenge
Ask yourself one hard question today: where in my life do I need to plan for peace? Identify one room, relationship, or situation that needs it. Before you walk in, decide how you’ll use your words to bring healing instead of adding to the tension.

Your Words Become Your Harvest
2026/10/28
What kind of words have you been sowing into your loved ones? The words a man speaks today become the harvest the people closest to him carry tomorrow.
Today’s two verses paint a convicting picture of a man’s mouth. Proverbs 12:14 uses a farmer’s image: words are seeds, and fruit takes time. Chris remembers being asked to teach a gardening class and realizing that on day one, all you can really teach is how to sow. Our words work the same way. They go into the ground of our marriages, our kids, our friendships, and our teams, and they grow. The harvest comes later, but it always comes. Proverbs 12:18 shows the two harvests a man can produce.
Every man’s mouth is sowing something. The only question is what you’re reaping from it. Solomon says rash words are like sword thrusts. They move faster than wisdom, hit harder than you meant, and leave wounds that are slow to close. Every man has said something in anger that he can’t take back. But the same mouth that wounds like a sword can heal like medicine. A wise man’s words do more than avoid damage. They restore. They encourage the discouraged, bring truth to the confused, and give courage to the fearful. Your parents, your wife, your kids, and your team are already carrying a harvest of your words. Manning up means looking honestly at that crop and taking responsibility for it.
Verses of the Day: Proverbs 12:14,18 (ESV)
Your Daily Man-Up Challenge
Think of the three most important relationships in your life. Ask yourself honestly what the fruit of your mouth has produced in each of them. Then choose one seed to sow in each of those relationships. It doesn’t need to be a grand gesture, just a true, intentional, life-giving word. Give it to them before the day is over.

Working Your Land
2026/10/27
Are you working your land, or just staying busy? A man earns his reward by faithfully working what God gave him, not by chasing what looks good from a distance.
Yesterday’s episode was about the hidden foundation that holds a man steady. Today is about the daily work that foundation is meant to support. Solomon puts it bluntly: work your land and you eat; chase worthless things and you go hungry. Chris points out that “your land” means something specific. It’s the work God assigned to you: your family, your calling, your responsibilities, your relationships. Plenty of men hustle in twenty directions and neglect the one field that belongs to them.
A man who chases fantasies is just a dreamer with good excuses. In the original language, the worthless pursuits Solomon describes are vapors and illusions, things that look substantial but weigh nothing. Solomon’s verdict is that this man lacks sense. He doesn’t lack ambition or vision. He lacks the practical wisdom to tell what’s real from what isn’t. Every man faces some version of this temptation: a get-rich-quick scheme instead of slow, steady building, a new idea before the last one is finished, a fantasy of a different life instead of investing in the one he has, or endless scrolling instead of creating. The rooted man doesn’t ignore what’s stressing him. He faces it and goes back to work on his land.
Verse of the Day: Proverbs 12:11 (ESV)
Your Daily Man-Up Challenge
Name your land. Write down honestly the specific responsibilities God has given you that deserve your best. Then name the worthless pursuit that has been pulling your focus away from them. Make one concrete decision today to put that energy back where it belongs.

Rooted Against the Storm
2026/10/26
Any man can look solid for a while. But what happens when the storm comes?
Chris Alessi opens the Proverbs 12 week by putting two men side by side. Both want the same thing: to be established, with a secure family, solid work, and a lasting legacy. One builds on righteousness. The other builds on anything else. Chris explains that Solomon, like Jesus in his parable of the two houses, gives only two foundations to choose from: God or not God. The difference between these men isn’t talent, luck, or effort. It’s what’s underneath, and the storm will reveal it.
A man can look stable for years and still have no root. Wickedness here doesn’t only mean the obvious bad choice. It means any foundation that isn’t God is unstable from the start. The righteous man is promised something different. His circumstances may shift, and life may hit him hard, but his root holds. Chris compares it to the turmeric and ginger on his farm: cut away all the green above ground and the root keeps growing. Roots grow in quiet seasons. They come from daily faithfulness nobody sees or celebrates, and from years of obedience before the storm arrives. If you’re not where you want to be in life but you’re staying faithful anyway, your root is growing.
Verse of the Day: Proverbs 12:3 ESV
Your Daily Man-Up Challenge
Take an honest look at your root system. Skip the visible life and examine the hidden one: your prayer life, your integrity, your faithfulness in small things. Then ask yourself one question: how can I be faithful and righteous today? That’s what will hold you when the storm comes.

Influence with Intention
2026/10/23
What kind of fruit are people getting from your life? Every man is influencing somebody, and a righteous man’s life produces fruit that gives life to others.
Pastor Steve Alessi wraps up the Proverbs 11 week with a Friday challenge about influence. Whether you realize it or not, your words, attitude, and decisions are shaping the people around you. In Proverbs 11:30, Solomon compares the righteous man to a tree of life and calls the man who wins souls wise. The question isn’t whether you have influence. It’s which direction your influence is taking people.
A healthy tree provides shade, fruit, and protection, but it never eats its own fruit. What it produces is for someone else. Your wife, kids, coworkers, and friends are living off the fruit of your life every day. Are they getting encouragement or criticism? Faith or fear? Peace or drama? Steve shares the story of an elderly man planting trees along a road he’d never live to see grow tall. All his life, he’d enjoyed the shade of trees planted by men he never met, and now he was planting for those who’d come after him. Every man is planting something in his children, his marriage, his business, and his church. And a wise man remembers that people matter most. Don’t spend your whole life building things and forget to build people. Your greatest influence is helping someone find their way to Jesus, and it often starts with living in a way that makes someone ask, “What’s different about you?”
Verse of the Day: Proverbs 11:30
Your Daily Man-Up Challenge:
Identify one person you can intentionally influence toward a better life today, then encourage him, call him, or invite him to lunch. Instead of asking, “What am I accomplishing with my life?” ask, “Who’s becoming better because of my life?” Man up, plant something that will outlive you, and win somebody over today.

Living with an Open Hand
2026/10/22
What has God already put in your hand that someone else needs today? The man who lives with an open hand gains more than the man who holds on tight.
Most men understand hard work, saving, and protecting what they’ve built. That’s responsibility. But if we’re not careful, responsibility can turn into gripping too tightly. In Proverbs 11:24–25, Solomon flips our thinking upside down: the man who gives freely gains even more, and the man who refreshes others is refreshed himself.
We tend to think that if we want more, we have to hold on to more. God says learn to release what He’s placed in your hands. Steve shares the story of a farmer who grew award-winning corn year after year by giving his best seed to the very neighbors he competed against. Because the wind carries pollen from field to field, he knew he couldn’t grow good corn unless his neighbors did too. Sometimes the best way to improve your own life is to improve someone else’s. And generosity goes beyond money. A generous man gives his time, encouragement, wisdom, and opportunities, and he gives credit instead of needing to take it. He doesn’t walk into a room asking what he can get, but what he can add. So if God gives you more, don’t just build a bigger container. Build a bigger pipeline and let more flow through you.
Verse of the Day: Proverbs 11:24–25
Your Daily Man-Up Challenge:
Refresh one person today, without waiting for them to ask. Buy someone lunch, leave a bigger tip, send an encouraging text, give extra time, share wisdom with a younger man, or open a door for someone who’s struggling. Don’t do it to get something back. Do it because that’s the kind of man you’ve decided to become.

Strong Enough to Be Kind
2026/10/21
Do you consider kindness to be a sign of strength or weakness?
Every man has felt that sudden surge of anger when another driver tries to merge into “your” lane. Why do we guard that spot like it’s ours, just to reach the next red light three seconds sooner? Sometimes the problem isn’t the other guy. It’s what he brings out in us. In Proverbs 11:17, Solomon shows that kindness blesses the man who gives it, while cruelty comes back to bite the man who dishes it out.
Some men treat kindness as weakness, but nothing could be further from the truth. Jesus turned over tables and confronted hypocrisy, yet He also stopped for children, touched lepers, and defended the rejected. Real strength knows when to be tough and when to be tender. A kind man looks people in the eye, thanks the waiter, listens instead of interrupting, and honors his wife. He doesn’t need to make anyone feel small to feel big, and people are drawn to him because of it. Rudeness works the opposite way. Your wife and kids grow guarded, employees stop sharing ideas, and friends stop calling. You can be right and still be rude. You can be a good man with a bad delivery. Anyone can snap back, but it takes a strong man to lower his voice, say “I was wrong,” or treat someone better than they treated him. And remember, people are forming an opinion about the God you serve by watching how you treat them.
Verse of the Day: Proverbs 11:17
Your Daily Man-Up Challenge:
Be strong enough to be kind. Today, intentionally show kindness to three people: one in your family, one you work with, and one who can do absolutely nothing for you. Throughout the day, ask yourself: Are people experiencing the kindness of Christ when they experience me?

Prosper with a Purpose
2026/10/20
If God blessed you tomorrow, who besides you would be better for it? When God prospers a righteous man, the blessing should reach far beyond him.
Proverbs 11 doesn’t shy away from a topic that makes some Christians squirm: prosperity. In Proverbs 11:10, Solomon pictures a whole city rejoicing when the righteous prosper, and celebrating just as loudly when the wicked are gone. The difference between the two men isn’t how much they have. It’s where their blessing goes.
Don’t apologize for wanting to prosper. Just make sure you prosper with a purpose. A selfish man asks how much he can accumulate, while a righteous man asks how much good he can do with what God puts in his hands. Look at Joseph, who went from the pit to Pharaoh’s palace. God elevated one righteous man, and an entire nation was fed through the famine. That’s the pattern: God’s blessings were never meant to stop with us, but to travel through us. More influence means opening doors. More money means more generosity. More leadership means developing others. And the flip side is sobering: some men live in such a way that everyone breathes easier when they leave. Don’t be that guy. Be the man whose presence makes your home, your workplace, and your church better.
Verse of the Day: Proverbs 11:10
Your Daily Man-Up Challenge:
Ask yourself, who is better because God has blessed me? Then take one thing God has put in your hands, whether it’s your money, influence, experience, connections, time, or wisdom, and use it to benefit someone else today. Buy someone lunch, encourage an employee, make an introduction, or mentor a younger man.

A Man of Integrity
2026/10/19
Are you living as one man, or two? Integrity means being the same man everywhere, because who you are when nobody’s watching is who you really are.
Pastor Steve Alessi opens this week’s study of Proverbs 11 with a question that hits close to home: why do we shift so easily from kid with the buddies, to closed-off at home, to foul-mouthed at work, to Bible-quoting with the church guys? In Proverbs 11:3, Solomon draws a hard line between the man guided by integrity and the man undone by duplicity. The first has one life to keep track of. The second is always one slip from being exposed.
Integrity is simply being the same man everywhere. The man you are at church is the man you are at home, and the man you are when the boss is watching is the man you are when no one is. Steve shares the story of a man who drove back to a store to return extra change, not because anyone was watching, but because he was watching himself. That’s integrity as a compass: you decide who you are before you walk into the expense report, the tax return, the phone in your hand, or the conversation with a woman who isn’t your wife. Duplicity does the opposite. Maintaining two versions of yourself means remembering, hiding, covering, and defending until one version exposes the other. Integrity is freedom, because there’s only one you. And trust takes years to build but only moments to destroy.
Verse of the Day: Proverbs 11:3
Your Daily Man-Up Challenge:
Ask yourself one question: is there any area of my life where I’m being two different men? If so, identify one place where your integrity needs to tighten up, and deal with it today.

The Blessing that Doesn't Break You
2026/10/16
Are you working hard, or white-knuckling the outcome?
Monday’s proverb gave us diligent hands that produce wealth. Today’s gives us a blessing that comes with no sorrow attached. Solomon isn’t contradicting himself. Diligence is what a man does, but blessing is what only God can add. Learn how to hold both without being crushed by either.
Wisdom is never a formula we can run without God, which is why Proverbs begins with the fear of the Lord. Diligence without that fear becomes anxious striving. Diligence with it becomes faithful work resting in a bigger promise. The exhausting, joyless grasping of a man who believes everything depends on him doesn’t just wear out the body. It reveals a heart that has quietly stopped trusting God to add anything at all. A man who works hard and rests in God’s blessing carries a weight that doesn’t break him, but a man who works hard and trusts only himself eventually will.
Verse of the Day: Proverbs 10:22
Your Daily Man-Up Challenge: Look at whatever you’ve been striving over right now, whether it’s work, finances, or a relationship outcome. Do the diligent work in front of you today, then consciously hand the outcome to God instead of gripping it. Say it out loud if you need to: “Lord, this is yours to bless, not mine to force.”

Fewer Words, More Wisdom
2026/10/15
Do your words carry weight, or do they just fill space?
The wisest man in the room is often the one who says the least. The Bible isn’t against talking. It's against talking without restraint: the more words you say, the more room there is for sin. Most men don’t get into trouble because they said too little. They get into trouble because they kept talking long after they had anything worth saying. Today, we look at why holding your tongue is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Proverbs 10:19 isn’t about silence for silence’s sake. The point isn’t that some words carry some risk, but that in a multitude of words, sin is not lacking. Restraint isn’t weakness; it’s a sign that a man actually understands something, especially when he’s sparing with his words before he fully grasps what he’s talking about. A wise man isn’t quiet because he has nothing to say. He’s restrained because he knows every word he adds is another he’ll be accountable for. This is everyday wisdom, meant to be lived out daily, not just admired as poetry.
Verse of the Day: Proverbs 10:19
Your Daily Man-Up Challenge
In your next conversation today, whether with a friend, a family member, your wife, or a business partner, say less than you want to. This matters most if it’s a tense one. Let there be a pause before you respond, and ask yourself if the next sentence actually needs to be said or if it’s just filling space. Be a man whose words carry weight.

Love that Covers
2026/10/14
What are you feeding in your life right now: love or hatred?
Today’s proverb is so true that the Apostle Peter echoed it centuries later. Solomon sets two forces side by side. One agitates a wrong until it becomes a war, and the other absorbs it so it never has to. Whether it’s a coworker who wronged you, a brother who let you down, or a sharp word in the heat of an argument, every man is choosing which one to nurture today.
Proverbs 10:12 doesn’t pretend sin doesn’t exist. Love covers wrongs not by refusing to see them, but by willingly bearing them without keeping score. That’s not denial, it’s endurance with a purpose. Covering an offense doesn’t mean broadcasting someone’s failure, and it doesn’t mean never addressing sin or setting boundaries. It means that when a wrong is small, already repented of, and nothing is gained by keeping the account open, a real man lets it go instead of nursing it. Hatred always feels justified in the moment, but it multiplies conflict rather than resolving it.
Verse of the Day: Proverbs 10:12
Your Daily Man-Up Challenge:
Think of one grudge, small or large, that you’ve quietly been keeping score on. Today, choose to cover it instead of feeding it. That might mean forgiving out loud, letting a comment go, or simply refusing to bring it up again. Let love do what hatred never could.

Don't Look Over Your Shoulder
2026/10/13
Is there a version of you that only exists because no one has found out yet?
In this episode, Christian continues through Proverbs 10 with a verse about a freedom many men never experience: walking securely. Not because we’re skilled or strong, but because we have nothing to hide. The crooked path always feels faster, and that’s exactly why we take it. Solomon says plainly that the man on it will be found out.
He isn’t issuing a threat in Proverbs 10:9. He’s describing how a moral universe actually works. Scripture refuses to separate a man’s private choices from his public character, and no crooked path walked in secret stays secret. It eventually shapes the man, his family, his church, and his friends. Integrity means wholeness, an undivided man who is the same person whether anyone is watching or not. A man of integrity isn’t sinless, he’s undivided. Secure men don’t have to manage two versions of themselves or remember which story went to which person. Crooked paths cost more than they promise, and they cost a man his rest.
Verse of the Day: Proverbs 10:9
Your Daily Man-Up Challenge
Ask yourself, “Is there a version of me that only exists because someone hasn’t found out yet?” If so, that’s a crooked path, no matter how small. Take one step today to straighten it out: tell the truth you’ve been avoiding, close the account, or end the practice. Walk today so you don’t have to look over your shoulder tomorrow.

Diligent Hands, Not Lucky Breaks
2026/10/12
Are you waiting for your big break, or building toward it? In this episode, Christian Calatayud opens his study of Proverbs 10 with a verse that has no room for talent, connections, or luck. Proverbs 10:4 draws a hard line between two kinds of men and two outcomes. Solomon doesn’t say a word about gifting or good fortune. He points to hands, and to what they do with the hours they’re given. Most of us want the promise without the process. Solomon won’t let us skip a step.
Proverbs isn’t a collection of abstract religious sayings. It’s common-sense wisdom about how the world God made actually works, and diligence produces where laziness doesn’t. The men before us saw honest labor as dignified, not beneath a godly man, and they saw idleness as a real danger to the soul. The man who wins the long game usually isn’t the most talented man in the room. He’s the one still showing up long after the gifted guys got bored and quit.
Verse of the Day: Proverbs 10:4
Your Daily Man-Up Challenge
Pick one area of your life where you’ve been waiting for a breakthrough instead of building one. Today, do the unglamorous, diligent thing in that area: make the phone call, fix the budget, get the workout in, or put in the extra hour nobody will see. Don’t wait on a stroke of luck. Build it with your hands.
