Fjords, Vikings & a Tattoo: An Unforgettable Norway Adventure With Sandy Collins - Ep. 003
2026/09/17
On this episode of Geekin’ on Travel, Curtis welcomes his good friend and longtime Geek Sandy Collins to share an unforgettable 10-day adventure through Norway with her husband Pat and their grandson Sean.
When Sandy and Pat asked Sean where in the world he wanted to travel, he chose Norway—and Sandy got to work planning the entire adventure herself.
Their journey takes us from Bergen to Voss, Flåm, Stavanger and Oslo, traveling by planes, trains, buses, boats and even a scenic railway through some of the most beautiful landscapes they’ve ever experienced.
We geek out about:
🇳🇴 Why Sean chose Norway for this special family trip
🏔️ Spectacular mountains, waterfalls and Norwegian fjords
🚂 Riding the incredibly scenic Flåm Railway
🚡 Gondolas, mountaintop views and watching paragliders take flight
🚤 Getting up close to the scenery on a high-speed fjord safari
🔥 Floating saunas—and jumping into the chilly waters of a fjord
⚔️ Exploring Viking history and a living Viking village
🖋️ Sean getting a very special Norwegian tattoo
🛳️ Three different fjord cruises and Sandy’s favorite experience
🏘️ Exploring Bergen, Voss, Flåm, Stavanger and Oslo
🎨 Museums, Norwegian history, Pulpit Rock and The Scream
🥓 Those incredible Norwegian hotel breakfast buffets!
🧳 Why packing light made traveling around Norway so much easier
❤️ The special experience of grandparents traveling internationally with their grandson
Sandy also shares what she learned from planning Norway on her own, how easy it was to navigate the country, what surprised her most and why she believes international travel can give young people a whole new perspective on the world.
And while the fjords and scenery were spectacular, the heart of this trip was getting 10 days together as a family—and hopefully inspiring another generation to keep exploring this amazing world.
