Welcome back to 2 Samuel. This week, Pastor Nathan gives us further context for where we're starting out in 2 Samuel, looking at when it was written, who was the intended audience, and why it was written to them. We learn that just as the Israelites were a people waiting for their promised messianic king, we are a people waiting for King Jesus to return – what can WE learn about trusting God's promises as we wait for our King's return? This fall we embark on a journey through the book of 2 Samuel. In 2 Samuel, we get an up-close and personal look at King David - the "man after God's own heart" whose life and kingdom, in many ways, point prophetically to Jesus, but who equally demonstrates the fallibility of the human heart. The book clearly reveals the painful effects of sin on sinners and equally the faithfulness of God in those moments of brokenness in our lives. This week's teaching is taken from chapter 1, so grab your bibles, and lets dive in together.

What do you do when everything feels urgent? Jesus gives us the answer in Luke 10 - Jesus replies to Martha's plea for help "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled with many things, but one thing is necessary." But how do we keep our eyes and our priorities fixed on Jesus (the "One Thing") in a culture that is constantly fighting for our attention? Paul gives us a roadmap for dealing with urgency in Colossians 3. Like what you hear or want to learn more? Visit us a www.hopeinanderson.com

Join us as Pastor Nathan explores our understanding of life after death / eternity / heaven by diving into Jesus's conversation with the criminals crucified by his side (Luke 23:39-43). Jesus famously replies saying "today, you will be with me in paradise." We'll unpack the word "paradise" and its use throughout scripture, ultimately to conclude that paradise is not just a place we go to when we pass from this life to the next - paradise is only paradise because of the person who resides there, Jesus.
