LHRL® #213
2021/10/07
https://youtu.be/NUZPVhxt9ts Lift Heavy Run Long® #213 went down like this: * Walking Tall 25k/50k is coming up. * Getting wifi in the studio. * Von's crappy hamburger * Grimace is a taste bud * McDonald's McBang Gang * Golf is hard * Sean Hizzle wrote us a review!
LHRL® #212- Derek Baker
2021/09/23
https://youtu.be/yXkgRoQbuUI Lift Heavy Run Long #212 got us back together and back on track after an extended break. We were fortunate enough to have our friend Derek Baker be willing to sit down and visit with us. Derek is a 20+ veteran of the Navy and spent a great deal of time in the bodybuilding/powerlifting space before a youtube video got him to thinking about what it would be like to run an ultra-marathon. Derek committed himself to running an ultra-marathon before he had even complete his first mile. He, admittedly, did not have any idea what he was doing and just decided to hit the bricks and start running. Derek signed up for  a 50K and in 5-weeks had dropped almost 35 pounds and was carrying significantly less weight than his previous 250lb frame was use to carrying. Ever since his first ultra, he has been on a tear. Derek has finished 2- 100mile races (one of which was on a treadmill!). Just last week he completed the Barkley Fall Classic and has more races coming down the pipes. Often described as the humble and "PG" version of David Goggins, Derek's intensity, focus, kindness and humility are some of the things that make him such a jewel in the trail-running community. I am sure that you will enjoy our time that we spent with Derek just as much as we did!!   Thanks for tuning it.

https://youtu.be/tF3bsak92S4 Lift Heavy Run Long®  #209 had the whole group of us back together. I need to write a summary but honestly, all I can think about is this Mississippi State vs. Vanderbilt  baseball game. So, I gotta run.I hope to come back to this but I will probably forget. #HailState
LHRL® #208- Becky Duncan & Caleb Sweavy
2021/06/17
https://youtu.be/jGi0ObwtU9U So, I really, really like Melisa Burgess. Who doesn't? Everybody does. She is a close friend of the LHRL® community. When Melisa has a panic attack on the side of a cliff at this year's Sylamore 25k/50k, there were 2 complete strangers who stopped their race and literally talked Melisa down from the edge. They spoke to her, held her hand and walked her to safety. I don't know if I am making a bigger deal out of it than necessary or maybe it is my selfish nature that makes it so hard for me to get a grasp on how any two stranger could be so altruistic. Anyways, meet Becky Duncan and Caleb Sweazy. These are the two very fine people who were kind enough to stop and take care of our friend. We sat down and chatted with them and had the opportunity to learn more about them as people. They did not disappoint. I have always loved getting to know new people on the podcast, Becky and Caleb are no exception. They give a whole new meaning to "Be good to others." Any trail-runner worth their salt-stick knows that a trail race is about more than their finish time. Becky and Caleb proved this to be very, very true.
LHRL® #207- Brian Williams & Sean Hilsdon
2021/05/20
https://youtu.be/7Nv-PLVFl1o Alright, alright, alright.... We had the world famous duo and founders of The Walking Tall 25k/50k on the podcast this week. The 4th annual Walking Tall race will take place on October 16,2021 and if you are not registered, you should hurry and get thatta way. You can sign up here. Brian and Sean have done so much for the trail racing community, as well as me personally, and I am always grateful to have the opportunity to sit down and visit with them. On episode #207 we talk about the intricacies of putting on a successful race as well as what makes it successful. Here is the rapid fire list of how it went down: * Walking Tall * Sean's achilles and recovery * Pizza rolls * Fireball * Is a hot dog a sandwich? * Is cereal soup? * FB audio still giving me fits
LHRL® #206

https://youtu.be/ZV6cmbvcQqU Another episode of crappy audio during the Facebook Live feed!!! It makes me crazy and I  promise I am doing everything that I know to do to resolve this issue. Here is how it went down: * FB Live audio sucked. * FB Live audio sucked. * Almira 50 miler/marathon was an enormous success!! * The World's Greatest Aid Station was in full-effect. * Fall Creek Falls Half Marathon was a beautiful race. * FB Live audio sucked * Would you rather live 100 Prince Charles years or 50 DMX years? * Scary movies * Von gives origin of "horse puckey". * Swift & Swole 2022 is coming. Keep your eyes and ears open.
LHRL® #205- Michael Hirons
2021/04/22
https://youtu.be/F0AqqWiAbYE Lift Heavy Run Long® #205, we had the pleasure of sitting down with our friend, Michael Hirons. Michael is a resident of Wynn, Arkansas and an advocate of the trail running community. At one point in time, Michael weighted almost 400lbs before making some changes in his nutrition and buying a bike. It wasn't long before he found himself shedding some lbs and feeling comfortable enough to try his hand at running. After a few 5ks, he had caught the bug. It wasn't long until he complete his first trail run at the Sylamore 25k and decided to put on a race of his own as the Race Director of Village Creek 10K/25K. Village Creek just finished up it's 8th year and the first annual Almira 50miler and marathon will take place on May 1, 2021. We are fortunate to get to spend time with folks like Michael and look forward to many years and many trail miles with him in the future. We enjoyed some great conversation before inevetbly jumping the tracks and veering into ridiculousville... Here is what the LHRL podcast derailed looked like: - Swift n Swole event 2022 - Do you clip tags off ur clothes, bite them or rip them. - Amanda called Grimmace, Hummus off McDonald’s - Ted Lasso - When do you say dinner and/or supper? Thanks for tuning in!
LHRL® #204

https://youtu.be/-mRgduWotQA Lift Heavy Run Long® #204 is coming at you hot!! Attention 2022 Swift and Swole to benefit the Chris Hope Foundation is in the works. We are looking to organize a 12-hour endurance event consisting of teams acquiring miles and reps in a fun and friendly competition involving as many active people and fitness organizations as we can find. LHRL® is a community and this event will serve to strengthen the community and include as many different people as possible within it. Get ready, cause it is gonna be . The LHRL® App has been submitted to the Slack store for approval. I worked really, really hard on it. There is much to be desired in it's functionality but I believe it is a pretty good start and it could be useful to help individuals accomplish their goals. You can check it out here: Check out the podcast to get the skinny on things but just remember that the 2022 Swift and Swole event is in the works and it's going to be huge.
LHRL® #203
2021/03/25
https://youtu.be/wDelTjZNHOk Lift Heavy Run Long #203 speed round: -Von returns from Disney World. -Barkley Marathon goes 3rd straight year without a finisher. -Laz rips Camel non-filtered. -FB is watching. It's amazing. -Spring weather is here!! Life is good -Will Fall races be post-covid-normal? -Useless knowledge: London cabbies have to memorize literally everything. If you take a taxicab in London, you can expect the driver to know exactly where they are going, since they are required to take a series of tests known as The Knowledge. These require them to study 320 routes and 25,000 streets, not to mention 20,000 landmarks and places of public interest—estimated to take as long as four years to fully complete. Sears used to sell houses. Before every city had a Walmart, most Americans got their stuff from mail-order catalogs, such as Sears. Among its many, many offerings were so-called "kit houses," or entire homes that were shipped on a train. You had to assemble the house yourself using the 75-page instruction book. It was like Ikea on steroids. There's an encrypted monument outside the CIA. A sculpture outside CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, fittingly includes uncracked codes. Created by artist Jim Sanborn, the sculpture features four inscriptions, three of which have been cracked, but the forth is still a mystery. (Though in 2010 the artist offered one clue: The letters NYPVTT are an encryption of the word BERLIN.)
LHRL® #202- Todd Hinton
2021/03/11
https://youtu.be/zUqH_zW_oUE This week we had our friend and personal trainer sit down with us and talk a little bit about his home gym and that came to fruition. With COVID being what it is, we couldn't help but notice that Todd was gaining an internet presence with he and some of his clients working out in a pretty plush garage gym. We decided to bring him into the studio to visit with him about how he put his together. On top of all of this fun we also had our regular shenanigans and ran through a few other items as follows: * We finally got a review. Hallelujah!* Andrew Causey got us an amazing gift basket for episode 200.* 'Flack' comes from the German word 'Fliegerabwehrkanonen. ' Pilots under fire must have needed a shorter word. When you hear of someone "catching flack," you're hearing a figurative extension of a term used for antiaircraft guns, or for the shells fired from them.* Most elephants weigh less than the tongue of a blue whale.* If you were going to be a super hero in the LHRL Universe, would you have super strength or super speed? - Sam Renfrow* If you could only eat one variety of food for the rest of your life, would it be of the savory variety or sweet? -Crystal Landers* If you could live in the water or on land, which would you choose? -Steve Monsanto* If you could only pic one activity between lifting and running Which would it be, and why? -Jeff Wehling
