Join In The Chat - Episode 9 - Battle of the Industrial Bands by LA Industrial

Two major goth industrial festivals . Leipzig, Germany (WGT) vs Calgary, Canada (Terminus). One feels more like a close community and the other a massive event with arena level performance venues, art exhibits, goth renfaire, after parties, and goth day care.

We returned from the Forms of HANDS festival in Bonen, Germany to report on our adventures.

We saw Cabaret Voltaire in London last November and once again in SF and LA. We also try and plan our yearly trip to WGT, the world's largest goth industrial festival.

Does AI music really matter when music has evolved to have less value? We examine the use of artificial intelligence, it's negative and positive effects, and talk about a long game experiment one of us made to test audiences to see if they could tell whether music was AI generated or created by a human. Is it relevant in the grand scheme of things?

We talk about the objectification of women, trans people, the gay community, and also men and how it relates to the industrial music scene.

This episode we name a few industrial acts who have been "cancelled" and discuss how that has evolved and what acts can regain disgruntled fans.

We discuss a Facebook group created to shelter cancelled artists, promoters, and patrons in the goth Industrial scene.

On our first episode we welcome Joy aka DJ Industria Nova from Oakland to Los Angeles and discover her impressions on the LA industrial music scene.

Industria Nova started her DJ career in the Bay Area at Stanford Radio in 2001 and started Body Rapture in the East Bay where she held a residency. After a hiatus, she is bringing back her passion with new energy to the dance floor and has supported at Industrial Room (Los Angeles), Splash (Los Angeles), After Life (San Francisco) and played support for Vagues Lanes and Darkswoon (Los Angeles). Industria Nova loves to share the gambit of electronic music with a specialty in Dark Electro, Industrial Techno and Darkwave, always driven by heavy base and synth driven sounds. She also has a love for EBM, industrial, synth pop, EDM, goth and post punk music which makes her versatile in her approach. She focuses on sharing new music with the standards mixed in, so there’s a little something for everyone. https://ra.co/dj/industrianova https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61572888146036

Hailing from Los Angeles, MMDA makes a soundtrack for the dark underbelly of queer culture. With tortured vocals and hard beats, they summon you to gyrate, grind, throb on the dance floor. Coming from their respective noise and industrial backgrounds, Peter Kalisch and Aaron December’s MMDA is a departure from their earlier work, allowing them to explore dance grooves paired with visceral walls of sound that engulfs the listener. Never ones to shy away from the taboo, they dive headfirst into a world of sexual desire, rainbow capitalism, and all the terrors and delights of being a 21st century queer.

Wednesday March 6th Distorted Disco hosts Mono No Aware(Germany/HANDS) , Threat of Innocence, Ratio Strain, and DJs Cervello Elettronico vs Nick Viola , Bractune, and Spheric. Our other resident, Sleep Clinic contributes this mix from his new home outside of LA. Enjoy as a complimentary soundscape to the night!
