Learning How To Connect With Human Beings with JoAnn Lagace
2026/10/13
JoAnn Lagace is an author, advocate, nonprofit founder, and woman in long-term recovery whose life has been shaped by trauma, resilience, and the decision to turn pain into purpose. In her memoir, Seeds in Shattered Soil, she shares an unfiltered journey through childhood trauma, addiction, mental health challenges, survival, recovery, and ultimately healing and self-acceptance. After more than 20 years in real estate, JoAnn changed the direction of her life and entered nonprofit work, eventually founding the National Animal Foster Network, a 501(c)(3) organization working to build infrastructure that helps keep people and their companion animals together during temporary human crises. Today, JoAnn uses her lived experience to speak openly about trauma, recovery, mental health, the human-animal bond, and what it means to rebuild a life at any age. As she approaches her 60th birthday and the release of Seeds in Shattered Soil, her message is simple: our past may shape us, but it does not have to determine what we create next. Experiencing Trauma From The Other Side with Dr. Shan Shan Jing
2026/09/24
Dr. Shan Shan Jing is a Consultant Plastic and Hand Surgeon working in a Major Trauma Centre in London, where she has spent years treating patients with devastating injuries, restoring nerves, vessels, and soft tissues after life-altering trauma.  In 2022, while working abroad during the pandemic, she experienced trauma from the other side when she survived a high-speed collision that killed her partner and left her hospitalized with multiple injuries. Her recovery involved navigating profound grief, neurological healing, and the identity shift of becoming a trauma patient within the very healthcare system she had dedicated her career to serving. This experience transformed her understanding of post-traumatic growth, the nervous system’s response to catastrophic loss, and the hidden burdens carried by healthcare professionals, deepening her belief in what she calls the “Holy Trinity” of health: the physical, psychological, and spiritual dimensions of healing.
