"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode I look at the three live action Street Fighter movies. In the first segment, I talk about my history with the video game, and then get into 1994's "Street Fighter," how my friends and I didn't have great expectations for it, but we wanted to see Van Damme. I also talk about how this affected Van Damme's career, but maybe not the way we think. In the second segment I talk about the much maligned "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li." I didn't dislike it, and I think it's perhaps because it feels like a good DTV actioner. In the third segment I talk about the newest movie, which I saw in the theater yesterday. It was a movie I was hoping would be great, did it live up to expectations? Finally, in the fourth segment I talk about my first novel, "Chad in Accounting," giving some background on how I came up with the initial idea, how the story evolved, and how I learned that writing the books might be the easiest part of self-publishing novels. We're joined once again by Mitch from the Video Vacuum, and this time we're doing a little movie autopsy as we look at "Bad Bizness" aka "More Mercy," and we try to see where the first director, Albert Pyun, ends, and the second director, Jim Wynorski, begins; but also where do Fred Olen Ray and Andrew Stevens come into this? Before that though, we talk about at Mitch's new book, "The Video Vacuum Strikes Back." Todd Liebenow from Forgotten Filmcast and Cartoon Breakdown is back, and this time we're continuing our look at the Strike Commando films with "Strike Commando II." Before that though, we discuss Todd's newest podcast show, Cartoon Breakdown, and some of the cartoons he's discussed so far. Then with "Strike Commando II" we try to make sense of why this was made, why it has Richard Harris, why we had so much fun with it. In this DTVC Monologue I give a quick 20-minute take on the newest One Shot movie, "One Last Shot." I compare it to the other two, compare it to Adkins's recent output, and talk about director James Nunn, fight choreographer Tim Man and action coordinator Dan Styles. Then to finish, I talk about Dolph's part and how good it was. In this episode I'm joined once again by Jeanette Ward from The Mundane Adventures of a Fangirl, this time to discuss the Amy Johnston film "Lady Bloodfight." Before that, we look at 2026 in film, which movies have done well and why, the ones that have flopped, and where we see things going for the rest of the year. Then with "Lady Bloodfight," we look at the story and the holes in it, but also the great fights, which is probably why we come to this film. We're trying something new on the DTVC Podcast feed, "DTVC Monologues" are 15-20 minute takes on a film I just watched. In this first one I look at 2001's "Josie and the Pussycats." It's one that people have been revisiting lately with a sense that maybe it was slept on when it was first released, but deserves another look. Did it? And was I able to make the case one way or the other inside of 20 minutes? Ty from Comeuppance Reviews is back for his monthly spot on the pod as we look at two more movies that feature rappers, "Checkmate" and "Once Upon a Time in Brooklyn." With "Checkmate," we're pushing felony weight again in the world of Alex Maisonette and Fat Joe, and if it's possible, it might be even crazier than before! At least we have Old Timer Dave. Then on the second one, "Once Upon a Time in Brooklyn", William DeMeo leads your classic NYC mob story, with small parts by Ice-T and Ja Rule. Finally, our spotlight on a fight looks at the end fight in "Walking Tall." "DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode I look at four mainstream Erotic Thrillers. In the first segment, I talk about "Body Heat" and "Body Double," why I liked them, and the ways they share DNA with 90s DTV Erotic Thrillers, and ways they differ. In the second segment I talk about "Fatal Attraction" and "Basic Instinct," and with those I look at how "Fatal Attraction" isn't a paradigm that's used often in 90s DTV Erotic Thrillers, and how "Basic Instinct" propelled an already burgeoning subgenre at that time. Finally, in the third segment I talk about my second novel, "A Girl and a Gun," giving some background on how I came up with the initial idea, how the story evolved, and how it showed me that I could write novels more easily. For Miscellaneous Plumbing Fixtures, you can listen on Spotify, or go here for his Bandcamp https://miscplumbingfixtures.bandcamp.com/ "A Girl and a Gun": https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09DR1S567 For my other books, go to my author website, go here: https://www.matthewpoirierauthor.com/ Buy me a coffee! buymeacoffee.com/dtvconnoisseur And you can grab our DTVC merch at our Threadless, https://dtvconnoisseur.threadless.com

We're joined once again by Jon Cross from the PM Entertainment Podcast and the After Movie Diner, this time to discuss "Night Eyes" and "Night Eyes II." With the first one, we look at where it sits as one of the first of the DTV Erotic Thrillers, the appearance of Cole S. McKay, and the plot holes that we love it in spite of. Then with the sequel, we look at Tweed's introduction to the series, how Andrew Stevens is as a lead, and more plot holes that we love it in spite of. Finally, after the end theme, we have bonus content, where Jon and I riff about Maine humorist Tim Sample, where else in the world you can have a "local humorist," and what a British Stephen King would sound like. Scott Murphy from All 90s Action, All the Time and Bloody Sam is back to discuss another Steven Seagal DTV flick, this time "Driven to Kill." We have another not so bad one here, but I do my best to make a mess of it when I keep calling Seagal "Dolph". "DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode I look at "The Mandalorian" Disney+ series, and the recent film "The Mandalorian and Grogu." In the first segment, I talk about the first two seasons, the atmosphere which it came out in, and why those two seasons worked so well. In the second segment I talk about the third season and why that one wasn't as well-received as the first two, and how that may have hurt momentum going into the movie, "The Mandalorian and Grogu," which underperformed at the box office. Finally, in the third segment I talk about my new flash fiction collection "Boston Stories Vol. 1," giving some background on how I came up with the initial ideas, and its journey from Myspace blog posts to self-published book. In this episode I'm joined once again by Chris "The Brain" Kacvinsky from Bulletproof Action, and this time we're doing some Don "The Dragon" one week before his birthday with "Bloodfist II." Before that though, we discuss the late James Lew, and his impact on the world of DTV action. Then with "Bloodfist II," we realize this movie wasn't as good as we thought, between the hero's poor judge of character, the Die Hard scenario padding, the lack of understanding of how tournament movies should work, and the sad sack that is Tim Baker. You can find Chris and Bulletproof Action at bulletproofaction.com, and the Bulletproof Action podcast on most major podcatchers. Ty from Comeuppance Reviews is back for his monthly spot on the pod as we look at "Hounds of War" and "Affinity". With "Hounds of War," we fire up the Grillo again for one we'd been waiting for for a long time. Was it worth the wait? Then on the second one, "Affinity", Marko Zaror gets after it, and we're all better for it. Finally, our spotlight on a fight looks at the end fight in "The Perfect Weapon". For the Letterboxd list of the movies Ty and I have covered, you can go here: https://boxd.it/oXfLm You can find Ty at comeuppancereviews.net, or on the Comeuppance Reviews podcast, which you can subscribe to on most major podcatchers. "DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode I look at the Mortal Kombat movies. In the first segment, I talk about my history with the games, and how that played into the first two movies in the 1990s. I also get into why I thought the first one worked better than the second. In the second segment I talk about the two 2020s movies, giving my thoughts on them, and why I think they may have a ceiling of $125-150 million in earnings. Then I give my own ideas for how I might make the film series profitable. Finally, in the third segment I talk about my 2022 book "Holtman Arms," giving some background on how I came up with the story and characters, and how the loss of our cat led to the creation of one of the characters in honor of him.
