2024/02/21
This week on Homeopathy for Mommies, Sue Meyer has her mentor back for part 2! Barbara Lowry shares her expertise on how environmental toxins, pharmaceuticals, and recreational drugs can hinder homeopathic treatment. Throughout this episode, Barbara reiterated the significance of comprehensive case-taking. Exploring the Benefits of Homeopathy in Childbirth with Midwife Elizabeth Meyer
2023/12/07
In this episode of "Homeopathy for Mommies", host Sue Meyer interviews midwife Elizabeth Meyer, midwife for a recent birth in her family. Elizabeth's journey into midwifery and homeopathy is deeply rooted in her upbringing. Raised with homeopathy and herbal medicine, Elizabeth's mother's rudimentary understanding of health and natural remedies played a significant role in shaping her career path. When Elizabeth became pregnant, she knew she wanted to use these natural remedies to support her body throughout pregnancy. She sought out a midwife who shared her beliefs and had a peaceful and nurturing connection with her. Her own birth experience, a water birth in her kitchen, deepened her love for her child and sparked her desire to have more children. This experience also ignited her passion to incorporate her knowledge about homeopathy into her practice as a midwife. Elizabeth and Sue share their experiences using homeopathic remedies during childbirth in this episode.  Sue shares about three new remedies she is adding to the birthing kit based on her positive experiences in recent experiences. The Live Q&A with Elizabeth will be on December 12th at 11 AM CST inside the Members Corner and will be recorded!  You can join here: https://members.homeopathyformommies.com   Timestamps: Elizabeth's Introduction to Homeopathy (00:02:59) Choosing a Midwife and Home Birth (00:04:52) Becoming a Midwife and Incorporating Homeopathy (00:06:28) Importance of nutrition in pregnancy (00:11:18) Finding and securing a midwife (00:16:53) The Role of Communication in Labor and Birth (00:19:23) The Experience of a Long and Challenging Labor (00:22:33) The importance of having a midwife for first-time moms (00:26:08) The impact of c-sections on the body (00:28:02) The significance of postpartum rest and nutrition (00:31:01) Remedies for Labor Pains (00:34:39) Pituitary Support for Blood Pressure (00:35:49) Importance of Continuous Learning in Midwifery (00:37:08)

Treat the Symptoms in Homeopathy, Not the Disease
2023/11/29
One of the most common questions I get is whether one should need a diagnosis to use homeopathy when they have symptoms. My advice?  This is the beauty of homeopathy. It doesn't just treat diseases; it treats symptoms. It follows the principle of "like cures like," a concept discovered by Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy. This principle, beautifully explained in Luc De Schepper's book "Hahnemann Revisited," suggests that a substance causing certain symptoms in healthy individuals can cure the same symptoms in the sick. To truly understand homeopathy, one must delve into materia medica - books that list homeopathic remedies and their symptoms. I recommend becoming familiar with the keynotes of popular remedies. These keynotes provide a good understanding of each remedy's unique characteristics. Take Bryonia, for example. This remedy is often used when someone feels worse for motion, has swollen joints, or is dehydrated. By learning the key points and keywords of each remedy, you can grasp the uniqueness of each remedy's message, making the overall picture clearer. When I first started studying homeopathy, I felt overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information. But I urge you to keep reading and trust that it will eventually sink in. When choosing a remedy, it's crucial to look for the area of pain, the sensation of the pain, and any mind symptoms. For instance, patients might describe feeling stuck or unable to progress. It's fascinating that homeopathic remedies can mirror these exact experiences. Having a well-stocked pharmacy of homeopathic remedies is essential. Keep your remedies in a safe and dry place, preferably in glass vials, and avoid exposure to strong odors or high temperatures. With proper care, these remedies can be passed down for generations. In conclusion, I encourage you to treat symptoms, change remedies if necessary, and have your own supply of remedies on hand. Remember, homeopathy treats symptoms, not diseases. So, focus on the symptoms and let the healing begin.  - The content of the Homeopathy for Mommies Radio post or page, including text, graphics, images, or information contained in text or audio, or other content, is offered on an informational basis only. Understanding Remedy Relationships in Homeopathy
2023/10/18
As the host of the Homeopathy for Mommies podcast, I've had the privilege of discussing a wide range of topics related to homeopathy. One topic that has always seemed to confuse many of our listeners is the concept of remedy relationships in homeopathy. I remember feeling overwhelmed by this subject when I first started studying homeopathy, and I've decided it's time to address this important topic head-on. The Basics of Remedy Relationships Remedy relationships refer to how one remedy interacts with another. Dr. R. Gibson Miller from Glasgow, Scotland, has created a printable chart of remedy relationships (http://www.homoeopathie.in/wp-content/uploads/relationship-of-remedies-dr-rgibson-miller.pdf) , which is a fantastic resource for anyone interested in this topic. I also recommend John H. Clark's clinical repertory (https://amzn.to/3FcqcBJ) , which includes a section on clinical relationships that mirrors the chart. In essence, complementary remedies enhance or emphasize each other's qualities. Remedies that follow well are best given after a particular remedy, while inimical remedies are opposed in character and cannot exist together. Antidotes are remedies that counteract the effects of another remedy. Practical Examples of Remedy Relationships To illustrate this concept, consider the relationship between arnica and belladonna, which complement aconite. The order in which these remedies are given can significantly impact their effectiveness. For instance, giving one remedy before another can cancel its effects. Understanding these relationships is crucial when giving a series of remedies to aid healing. The Role of Antidotes in Homeopathy Antidotes in homeopathy are remedies that cancel out the action of another remedy. They can be used to counteract any negative effects or unwanted symptoms caused by a previous remedy. Some remedies have specific antidotes listed, while others do not. Interestingly, cell salts, which are essential building blocks of the human body, are not typically affected by other remedies and do not have antidotes. Comparing Remedies: A Useful Tool for Beginners In classical homeopathy, the term "compare" or "similar to" is often used to indicate a group of remedies that have similar properties or uses. While I prefer to be more specific in my remedy selection, comparing different remedies can be a helpful tool for beginners or those starting out in homeopathy. My Personal Experience with Complementary Remedies I've personally experienced the power of complementary remedies. When I broke my leg, my homeopath prescribed the "famous five" remedies: arnica, hypericum, bryonia, rhus tox, and ruta. These remedies not only complemented each other but also had the potential to antidote each other. Despite this, they worked together effectively and aided in my healing process. Complementary and Inimical Remedies: A Delicate Balance Complementary remedies work well together and can be given in alternation or combination to treat a particular ailment. In contrast, inimical remedies should not be given together as they can cancel out each other's effects or create unwanted reactions. For example, for sore, burning, or broken out skin, remedies like Rhus toxicodendron (poison ivy) and Apis mellifica (bee venom) are recommended. However, these two remedies are inimical to Nux vomica and Chamomile.

Unraveling the Web: A Look at Spider Remedies in Homeopathy
2023/10/04
This week on Homeopathy for Mommies, we explore the the fascinating world of Arachnid (spider) remedies in homeopathy. Arachnid remedies are a unique group of treatments within the realm of homeopathy. They are primarily used to treat symptoms following spider or wood tick bites, and even recurring sepsis or bacterial infections. One of the most intriguing aspects of arachnid remedies is their impact on mental symptoms and characteristics. These remedies are known for their association with intense space and speed, hyperactivity, and a short lifespan. They also exhibit attention-seeking behavior, mischievousness, and a profound love for music and colors. Beyond the general arachnid remedies, there are specific spider remedies that have proven to be beneficial. These include the papal cross spider, cross spider, black widow spider, and black spider remedies. They have been used to treat a variety of conditions, from angina pectoris and blood poisoning to infections. As always, we recommend reaching out to a homeopath to help you if any of these remedy descriptions resonates with you. Homeopathic Remedies for RSV Symptoms
2023/09/19
RSV is a common virus that primarily affects the lungs and respiratory tract, causing symptoms similar to a common cold. Most children contract this virus by the age of two, and while the symptoms are usually mild, it can cause severe infections in premature babies, infants, and individuals with weakened immune systems or underlying lung or heart issues. There are various homeopathic remedies that can be helpful for respiratory issues, particularly in cases of exposure to toxins, viruses, bacteria, or flu. Aconite, Antimonium Tartaricum, Carbo Veg, Arsenicum Album, Baptisia, Belladonna, Bromium, Bryonia, and Chamomilla are some of the remedies that can be used for different flu symptoms. Activated charcoal capsules can also help remove carbon monoxide from the lungs and improve oxygen uptake. You can access the handout for this and all our podcasts inside the Members Corner! Homeopathic Remedies for Enlarged Tonsils
2023/09/13
This week on Homeopathy for Mommies, Sue addresses Enlarged Tonsils and how homeopathy can help! She chose to discuss this topic because it's an issue she has addressed many times. Enlarged tonsils can be hereditary, but there are some homeopathic remedies that can be used at home to help children with this condition. Sue referred to a book called "The Best of Burnett" compiled by Dr. H.L. Chitkara, which contains information from James Compton Burnett. She emphasized the importance of reading books on homeopathy, as they provide valuable information for different ailments and remedies. Link to The Best of Burnett: https://amzn.to/3spVBgD Diving into the topic of enlarged tonsils, Sue shared information from James Compton Burnett's book. He mentions a homeopathic remedy called Baryta Carbonica which has been known to be effective for enlarged tonsils in specific situations. Sue discussed the importance of looking at the symptoms and the person as a whole when treating illnesses. She mentioned "miasms" or hereditary dispositions, specifically focusing on the tubercular miasm. She recommends studying the 12 miasms for a better understanding of these dispositions. Individuals with a tubercular disposition may experience symptoms such as swollen lymph nodes, enlarged tonsils, and even a sunken chest. However, these symptoms may only manifest if the person becomes extremely ill, lacks proper nutrition, or other related situations where there is great supression. Here's a great training Sue has on Miasms - Class 6 in her Advanced Homeopathy Series: https://homeopathyformommies.com/fall-study-group-series-live-sue-meyer/ If you would like to join the Members Corner and access the show notes to this podcast, go to: https://members.homeopathyformommies.com

The Power of Activated Charcoal
2023/08/30
This week on Homeopathy for Mommies, Sue Meyer delves into the world of activated charcoal, a supplement that has been used for centuries to treat poisonings and stomach upsets. Activated Charcoal: An Ancient Remedy Activated charcoal is a medication that has been used for centuries to treat poisonings. It's made more porous through a process of superheating, which increases its absorption power. Just one teaspoon of activated charcoal can absorb all the toxins on a football field. Isn't that amazing? Our bodies are constantly exposed to toxins, even in urban areas where pesticides are sprayed without permission. Activated charcoal is known for its ability to absorb toxins and is often used in cases of poisoning or overdose. It can be taken orally or administered through a nasogastric tube. It's also effective in treating respiratory issues and can absorb toxins through the respiratory tract. The process of making activated charcoal involves heating carbon-rich materials such as wood, peat, coconut shells, or sawdust. This process strips the charcoal of previously absorbed molecules and increases its overall surface area, allowing it to absorb toxins effectively. The Health Benefits of Activated Charcoal Several studies suggest activated charcoal may assist kidney function by filtering out toxins and drugs. It may also help reduce gastrointestinal damage and inflammation in individuals with chronic kidney disease. Additionally, activated charcoal has been found to be beneficial in reducing intestinal gas and abdominal pain. Activated charcoal is commonly used for water filtration and can remove fluoride from water without removing beneficial minerals. It is also used as an anti-diarrheal medication, particularly for diarrhea caused by bacteria or toxic sources. It has potential benefits for teeth whitening, skin care, deodorizing, and treating skin infections. Activated Charcoal: A Personal Experience I frequently take activated charcoal due to my sensitivity to food preservatives. I recommend other homeopathic remedies like Nux Vomica, Lycopodium, or Arsenicum for stomach aches, along with activated charcoal. I believe in the importance of having activated charcoal in a first aid kit and consider it a supplement to a diet in today's toxic environment. I'm concerned about the exposure of organic foods to pesticides and chemicals, and I shared an anecdote about non-organic potatoes being falsely labeled as organic. The Power of Activated Charcoal During a period of illness, my oxygen levels were consistently low despite using carbo veg, a homeopathic remedy. After consulting with a chiropractor friend, I learned that the cells in my lungs were coated with carbon monoxide, preventing them from absorbing oxygen properly. Upon the suggestion of my friend, I started taking activated charcoal, which resulted in a significant improvement in my oxygen levels within a few hours. Activated charcoal not only works on the respiratory system but also cleanses other body systems by pulling toxins and heavy metals. I suggest taking one capsule a day or adjusting the frequency based on individual needs and reactions. Activated charcoal can be taken in different forms, such as capsules, powder, or mixed in smoothies, depending on personal preference. I'm grateful for the opportunity to share this information and encourage you to explore the benefits of activated charcoal for yourselves.
