Tate reconvene to discuss the most pressing news, which today centers around the Tigers' underwhelming victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores. Also included: • At least the final drive was good, right? • It's time to give Kodi Burns his coaching flowers • How much is too much for Byrum Brown? • The defense was better on 3rd down, but somehow worse on 4th • Missed tackles vs. disruption • Does it matter that Golesh considers "Hype" a mentor? • They're ready for their first real road game, right? • The DJ made a mess of it, didn't he? #SaveTheBand #SaveOurEars • Is John Cohen a problem? Or does he just have a communication problem? • Shoutouts.
The Rundown, Ep. 716 (9-22-26)
2026/09/22
THE RUNDOWN PRESENTED BY AUBURNSPORTS (9/22/26) Bryan Matthews and Jay G. Tate reconvene to discuss the most pressing news, which today centers around the Tigers' highly disappointing loss to Florida and what it means going forward.  Also included: • It really wasn't that close, tbh. • Golesh seemed shocked that the defense was so poor. • The defensive issues are fixable, right? • Why would emotions be to blame in a game against ... Florida? • The defense was worse after halftime. • The offense? Some highs and some lows. • Byrum Brown did a nice job after the first quarter. • The offensive line must summon more to avoid future embarrassment. • Kodi Burns' wideout room probably is performing best on Saturdays. • Shoutouts.
The Rundown, Ep. 715 (9-15-26)
2026/09/15
Bryan Matthews and Jay G. Tate reconvene to discuss the most pressing news, which today centers both around the USM and changes along the offensive line ahead of this showdown with Florida.  Also included: • Defense was good against USM; offense was generally excellent • What about Wilson Zierer? For a freshman to do that? • Byrum Brown was better. In fact, he was damn good. • What to do at tailback? Omar and Bryson look like studs, too. • Is Golesh serially dissatisfied — or is that an act? • What does this Florida team look like? • Florida fans seem pretty confident about their chances for Saturday night.  • Alex McPherson is a complete and total stud. • Shoutouts.
The Rundown, Ep. 714 (9-8-26)
2026/09/08
Bryan Matthews and Jay G. Tate reconvene to discuss the most pressing news, which today centers around the Tigers' narrow win over the hated Baylor Bears. Included in that: • Winning is always a good thing, right? • Byrum Brown has some work to do. • Eric Winters, Elijah Melendez and Jared Smith absolutely balled out. • Defending 99 snaps is not tenable if you're hoping to win games. • We were worried about tackles and we should have been worried about interior linemen. • The Tigers' last touchdown drive was excellent. • Does this win change how we feel about the team's ceiling and realistic record? • Shoutouts.
The Rundown, Ep. 713 (9-1-26)
2026/09/01
Bryan Matthews and Jay G. Tate reconvene to discuss the most pressing news, which today centers around the Tigers' final week of preparation for Baylor.  Included in that: • It's finally game week! YESSS! • What's up with Baylor's defense? • What's up with DJ Lagway? Is he good now that he's at Baylor? • What are our biggest concerns going into this season? • Which position groups are we more excited to see? • This depth chart has more ORs than a Viking Navy. • Is Golesh really A Dude? It sure seems that way, but one game can change all that. • Shoutouts.
The Rundown, Ep. 712 (8-25-26)

Tate reconvene to discuss the most pressing news, which today centers around the team moving into Mock Week One and preparation for Baylor.  That includes: Why does Golesh want TWO Mock Game Weeks? Today's practice showed us the evolution of scout team players Byrum Brown really is something else to watch on the practice field Golesh sure does like his edge room — is that a bad sign for the offensive line? We think Golesh has a very good grasp on his top seven OLs Golesh says he's not going to go "by the book" in fourth-quarter situations. Good or bad? Victory Day sounds like the coolest thing ever.

Tate reconvene to discuss the most pressing news, which today centers around some personnel changes and fallout from the scrimmage last Friday.  That includes: • Trey Taylor was at practice Tuesday and is ready to go, more or less. • Is Bryce Cain really moving to cornerback? • The tackling was just so-so at the scrimmage. What is Auburn going to do about that? • The defense is only slightly ahead of the offense. Is it time to panic? • Byrum Brown is playing some good football right now. • The wideouts are playing very well. • Sounds like the offensive line hierarchy is almost solidified. • Two young defensive backs are taking a step forward. • Jourdin Crawford is back in the picture a bit inside. • What does Kolby King bring to the basketball program? • Jackson Koivun's time has ended in terms of the Fed Ex Cup chase, but this still has been an amazing season for him.
The Rundown, Ep. 710 (8-11-26)
2026/08/11
Bryan Matthews and Jay G. Tate reconvene to discuss the most pressing news, which today centers around the Tigers' first week of fall camp.  That includes: • Are we right to be skeptical about Stanton Ramil? • The starting wideouts are playing well so far. • There is some real, geniune joy out there right now. • The team acts like one team instead of two. • Discussing Dallas Walker, Buddy Mathis, Jacob Strand, Chas Nimrod, Jake Johnson, Omar Mabson • Will the safeties really rotate that much? • Recruiting Roundup • Recapping the Fightin' Pearls' trip to Greece • Jackson Koivun is in the playoff! • Why didn't the baseball team clean up in the portal? • Shoutouts.
The Rundown, Ep. 709 (7-14-26)
2026/07/14
Bryan Matthews and Jay G. Tate reconvene to discuss the most pressing news, which today centers around the Tigers preparing to attend SEC Media Days. THE MENU: We sure do miss our departed friends Phillip Marshall and Christina Chambers. Champ Anthony is an interesting choice to represent Auburn in Tampa. (Because he's not necessarily a star on the field.) Byrum Brown and Alex McPherson also are great choices. Alex Golesh is going to be who we think he is, right? RIGHT? The basketball team has everyone on campus now ... and this looks like a terrific ballclub. People aren't talking about this team, though. Why is that? Butch Thompson clearly has his ducks in a row when it came to replacing Gabe Gross as hitting coach.  Nick Ammirati, aka COACH AMMO, did some incredible work at Georgia of late. ----------- Today's show is presented by ZenAI, the home of vibecasting. BONUS: The AuburnSports Basketball Show (2-5-26)
2026/02/05
The Rundown has been on hiatus for the past six weeks or so, but we're still putting out content. In this BONUS offering, Jay G. and Justin Hokanson sit down for 25 minutes to discuss the Tigers basketball team — its loss at Tennessee, its upcoming game against the hated Alabama Crimson Tide.  Also discussed: -- Steven Pearl's comments about Alabama F Charles Bediako -- Why Pearl shouldn't really mess with Tahaad Pettiford's mentality too much -- Why is it so important to keep Alabama at or under 80 points? -- Auburn actually is a decent three-point shooting team Give it a listen! We do our best to keep it tight and on topic >95% of the time!
The Rundown, Ep. 708 (12-16-25)
2025/12/16
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones and Jay G. Tate reconvene to discuss the most pressing news, which today centers around Alex Golesh essentially finishing off his staff for 2026. (And it's a damn good one.) Also: Larry Scott brings a TON of experience to the table at TE. Larry Porter knows Auburn, knows how to recruit, is very good. Tim Banks might be the steal of this staff. Auburn has several guys headed to the portal. Who are the toughest hits? What is Auburn getting in OL Bear McWhorter? What happened with this 2026 signing class? Who gets the (dis)credit? The Fightin' Pearls clawed out a win against Chattanooga. Tahaad Pettiford sure plays well on the road! The weekend game against Purdue will be another major test. Shoutouts. The show is presented by VooDoo Wing Company with locations in Auburn, Mobile, Tuscaloosa, Florence, suburban Charlotte, Chapel Hill and Las Vegas. The Rundown, Ep. 707 (12-10-25)
2025/12/10
Jay G. Tate works by himself to discuss the most pressing news, which today centers around Alex Golesh's marathon press conference from earlier this week and what it taught us. Also: He sure seems authentic, doesn't he? He's been described as a DOG. (This is different than a WOLF.) If Kodi Burns likes him, I like him. Golesh was able to keep Durkin, which was very important. The staff is nearly fulled out at this point. Golesh says he wants to build though HS recruiting and supplement with portal. What should we think about that early signing period? Who are the real guys in this class? MBB review — the Arizona loss could be a very good thing. Quick WBB review — they're OK. Shoutouts. The show is presented by VooDoo Wing Company with locations in Auburn, Mobile, Tuscaloosa, Florence, suburban Charlotte, Chapel Hill and Las Vegas. Check them out IN PERSON for delicious chicken or on the web at www.voodoowingco.com.
The Rundown, Ep. 706 (12-2-25)
2025/12/02
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones and Jay G. Tate reconvene to discuss the most pressing news, which today centers around the Tigers' hire of Alex Golesh as football head coach. Also: Offense first? Not really. What does he mean by following a process?  Most of the guys already hired are on offense. What's going to happen with Durkin? What's the holdup? What's going to happen at quarterback? So many options! Losing Roc Bellantoni is a surprise. Losing Kenyatta Watson hurts. Some coaches are still here. Golesh's contract is quite incentivized. Basketball was up and down in Vegas. NC State is coming to town Wednesday night. Another big game.
705 (11-25-26)
2025/11/24
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones and Jay G. Tate reconvene to discuss the most pressing news, which today centers around the Tigers' lopsided win against Mercer last weekend. Also: Deuce Knight is a dadgum RUNNER! Is there a quarterback conundrum? No, there isn't. Isn't it nice to see what happens when Derrick Nix is allowed do his job? The defense created three turnovers including a pick six. Alex McPherson regained his full kicking distance. Does this help Durkin's case for getting the full-time job? We still believe Jon Sumrall is in prime position to land the job. Why has it been so quiet lately? What are the keys to beating Ala? Simon Walker had a nice start to his college career. Auburn's defense continues to improve. There are big tests this week — Oregon and Michigan await.
704 (11-18-25)
2025/11/17
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones and Jay G. Tate reconvene to discuss the most pressing news, which today centers around the decision to sit Ashton Daniels against Mercer this weekend. Also: Who actually starts against Mercer then? DJ Durkin says every day is a job interview. What's going on with the Tigers' search for a new head coach? Does Lane Kiffin's situation affect Auburn? Is Jon Sumrall a good coach? The Iron Bowl will be contested at night this season. The Fightin' Pearls played well against Houston, but not quite well enough. Keyshawn Hall is a very bad man. Shoutouts. The show is presented by VooDoo Wing Company with locations in Auburn, Mobile, Tuscaloosa, Florence, suburban Charlotte, Chapel Hill and Las Vegas.
