MEET THE CANDIDATE RUNNING AGAINST DSA CLAIRE VALDEZ - MELVIN RIVERA FOR CONGRESS The Democratic Plantation - It’s like REVERSE Oprah, “You Don’t Get Nothing. You Don’t Get Nothing!” - Melvin Rivera About: Melvin Rivera is running for Congress in New York’s 7th District to bring practical leadership, accountability, and real opportunity to the communities of Brooklyn and Queens. Born and raised in Bushwick, Melvin has spent more than 30 years serving his neighbors as a community activist, tenant organizer, and advocate for working families. His work has helped protect rent-stabilized tenants from illegitimate rent increases, defend homeowners from predatory real estate speculation, support families displaced by Hurricane Maria, and organize communities around housing, public safety, economic opportunity, and environmental justice. For Melvin, public service is not theory. It is lived experience. After overcoming hardship himself, including homelessness earlier in life, he understands the systems that too often trap families in instability. His campaign is built on a clear mission: empower people, build ownership, break dependency, and demand accountability. Melvin believes Brooklyn and Queens need tailored solutions, not one-size-fits-all politics. His agenda focuses on strong families, housing reform, community ownership, workforce development, public safety, free enterprise, transparent government, and infrastructure that protects public health. This campaign is not about blind loyalty to any party. It is about policy, results, and restoring trust in representation. Together, we can build safer neighborhoods, stronger families, and a future where working people have a real path to ownership, independence, and opportunity. https://melvinforcongress.com Cafecito Break ☕️ Buy us a coffee ? https://buymeacoffee.com/cafecitobreak/c/20230663?uid=5992304 This Substack is reader-supported. Hello Fam, There is something about the week leading up to the anniversary of September 11th that always feels solemn. It is a time of reflection, of remembering those we lost, those who sacrificed, and those who live on with the pain and memories of that day. Our lives were forever changed on Sept 11th, 2001. “I was willing to get arrested for not wearing a mask several times. Call the cops, call you who you need to call. But if I faint because you’re asking me and you’re putting me in a position, you’re creating anxiety when I pass out, what are you going to do? And it was, you know, I’m 5’3”, dealing with folks who were like over six, two, 300 pounds, intimidating me, asking me to put on a mask when I’m the only customer in the store. I mean, the other day, the MTA bus enforcers came in, and that’s when I realized that I have PTSD from those interactions when I was getting followed by In like half the store in Whole Foods because I wasn’t wearing a mask and they were literally like it’s almost like imagine Whole Foods is big. So if you’re imagine walking from the freezer section all the way to where the products are and you have someone like just following you really like a heartbeat. That’s like you feel like somebody’s stalking you. And these are these are the practices that people engaged in in the city. And I never am going to stop talking about it because what people live in blue cities like New York was straight up totalitarianism. And the very fact that so many of the New York City, New Yorkers, so many people that I love and support it. My whole life was so okay with walking past folks who didn’t take the job or who weren’t masking or who were questioning, and they were fine with the segregation, fine with little kids not being able to partake in society, fine with little kids getting a job that they didn’t even need. I feel like I saw some of the worst remnants of society, and I understand that. When people are in fear, they do things that it’s out of the norm. But I think I’m in a place, and I’ve contemplated this, and I’m a faithful woman, but I find it very hard to be in some of those settings with some of those familiar people and not feel bitter. Like this almost... I don’t want to say it’s not hatred. It’s like it’s like a deep grief because it wasn’t just my livelihood that that went. It was thousands of people. It was the millions of people that got hurt through the shot and other people who experienced worse outcomes. And the fact that we’re in New York City now. Or in the United States in the present day and still people do not know what really happened in 2020. Yeah, come on. Do you know how many people I hear every other day saying it sure doesn’t feel the same as it did back in those days before 2020 came? Everything just feels so different. Don’t you feel like time is off? So people talk around it, but they don’t talk. They’re not ready to. And I don’t know we have that kind of time to be waiting for people to be ready because communism is already pretty much here.” Watch the full interview with APOSTATE RADIO on Youtube Tip Cafecito / Buy us a Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/cafecitobreak/ Get full access to Cafecito Break at www.cafecitobreak.org/subscribe
