Are You as Self-Aware as You Think You Are?
2024/02/21
Would you describe yourself as being self-aware? Most people do. But according to research done by organizational psychologist Tasha Eurich and her team involving 5000 participants, it may be that only 10%-15% of the population is actually self-aware. Additionally, they found that when someone considers themselves to be highly experienced, that estimation may keep them from questioning their assumptions, seeking evidence that goes against their own position, or continuing to learn. This played out in more experienced managers overestimating their leadership effectiveness as compared to newer managers.   In the last episode we covered how to lead with emotional intelligence, and benefits of utilizing empathy in your leadership. In this episode we will expand on two of the five components of emotional intelligence: self-awareness and self-regulation. Additionally, you get a few suggestions on how to develop these abilities, so you feel more confident and creative in your role. Resources Leadership Coaching. How to Build Team Trust
2024/01/31
Have you ever wondered why some teams do okay while others effortlessly tackle challenges? The secret lies in one word: TRUST. In fast-paced environments, team cohesion is more crucial. A cohesive team, built on trust, can leverage diverse skills, tools, and resources to conquer any obstacle. Building and maintaining trust is not a one-and-done exercise. Everything you do is either growing, maintaining, or diminishing the level of trust on your team. This episode explores the role of team trust and how it can transform your team dynamics. I'm covering the key benefits of team trust, the obstacles that destroy trust - or at the very least prevent it from growing, and how you can build trust on your team if trust is low. Are you at a loss for how you can actively support and empower women of color to thrive in leadership? I often look at reports showing the current numbers of people in all levels of leadership. Overcoming Stereotypes About Female Leaders
2024/01/17
Do you have a strong leadership style that has been mislabeled as harsh or uncaring? Every now and again, as I’m connecting with each of you on LinkedIn, I’ll ask if you have any topic suggestions for the podcast. I recently got a response that immediately piqued my interest. The response read, “One thing I struggle with as a leader is gender stereotypes and expectations on how a female leader needs to act. People assume female leaders need to always be nurturing and soft, and when they need to be direct or decisive people find that harsh. If you have a podcast that addresses this issue and how to overcome it, I would love to listen.” Me too! So here it is. Resources Leadership Coaching. Malia Monaco on How to Create Positive Experiences Through Change by Building Team Trust
2023/12/20
Have you ever worked on a team going through a lot of change? I’m guessing you have many times and in many different scenarios. I’m also guessing your experience of that change had a lot to do with the level of trust that the team had for one another and the leaders of the team and/or organization. When there is a high level of trust the impacts of the change are softened. When there is low trust change can be traumatic. Clearly, we want to work in teams that have high trust but if that’s not the current condition, how do we get there? To answer that question I’ve asked Malia Monaco to join me for this episode.   In this episode Malia and I talk about: ·         The work that Malia does for leaders and organizations through Positive Intelligence involving change management and trust building. ·         What it takes to build trust in teams and what becomes possible when trust grows. ·         Why it’s important to get to the root of the problem rather than tackling the symptoms, which is where many organizational initiatives go wrong. ·         How our belief system will shape what we see around us and determine whether we bring harsh judgment or blameless discernment to our reactions. ·         While insights are important, they only make up 20% of sustainable long-lasting change what makes up the other 80%. 2023/12/06
Several weeks ago I released Ep 492 How to Release the Grip Imposter Syndrome Has on You with Kim Meninger. So many of you responded with follow-up questions that I asked Kim if she would be open to doing a Live Stream to answer questions on Imposter Syndrome. Kim was happy to do it and we promoted that event for anyone who wanted to attend live and put a call out for question submissions from those who would not be able to attend or would like to remain anonymous. In this episode Kim and I discuss: What causes the condition of Imposter Syndrome, the consequences of its development and the ages that are most at risk. How to head off an episode of Imposter Syndrome before you get triggered into a fight or flight response. How to discern the difference between Imposter Syndrome and realistically not being qualified to do something.
