Episode 467: The Crew’s stuck in a time loop while watching Christopher Landon's Happy Death Day. This Groundhog Day inspired slasher film is a fun genre mashup that scored at the box-office. The movie is perfectly cast (at least the actresses are), the kills are fun (although very PG-13), and its paced well. Episode 466: The Crew’s building their best man with a tan while watching Jim Sharman's The Rocky Horror Picture Show. This Halloween favorite denies classification, it's a musical, a horror spoof, and a sexy sex comedy. It's also the longest running theatrical release in film history, and it's the recommended way to watch the film cause it definitely loses the fun energy without the audience participation. Episode 465: The Crew’s figuring out what things do react well to bullets while watching John McTiernan's The Hunt for Red October. This 90's sub film was a box-office hit and start of the Jack Ryan franchise, but Sean Connery steals the film and Jack Ryan (played only once by Alec Baldwin) ends up being the least interesting supporting character. Episode 464: The Crew’s tickling their pet talking gorilla while watching Frank Marshall's Congo. This adventure film misses the mark on building suspense, so the best scenes are when the actors deliver exposition dialogue. And if it wasn't for Ernie Hudson, Tim Curry, Delroy Lindo, and Joe Pantoliano the movie might have fumble that. Episode 463: The Crew’s out of town working this week so Brian and his wife review some recent sci-fi films. The first is Ridley Scott's post-apocalyptic film, The Dog Stars. Followed by David Robert Mitchell's dinosaur film that has heavy Spielberg/Amblin vibes, The End of Oak Street. Episode 462: The Crew’s kissing Nolan's butt while watching his adaptation of The Odyssey. That's right, it's another all male (no Kristin yet again) Christopher Nolan love fest review. They can't help their lack of originality, when a movie's this great, all you can do is join the herd. Episode 461: The Crew’s laying naked on a rocky beach while watching Uberto Pasolini's The Return. Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes are amazing as Penelope and Odysseus, it's a shame they're only in three scenes together. The film is a wonderfully grounded adaptation of The Odyssey, which makes the poor handling of the marketing and distribution so frustrating. Episode 460: The Crew’s looking at all the beautiful people while watching Wolfgang Petersen's Troy. Despite being Brad Pitt's highest grossing film at the time, its huge budget kept it from becoming massively profitable. The Crew's opinions vary greatly on this film, some think its fun entertainment and others think it's laughably bad. Episode 459: The Crew’s praying to Crom while watching John Milius' Conan the Barbarian. This bloody sword and sandal flick introduced the world to Arnold Schwarzenegger (as a movie star anyway, he was already famous as a bodybuilder). More than 40 years later it's still entertaining, and perhaps the best of the 80's sword and sandals movies. Episode 458: The Crew’s shooting mirrors while watching Orson Welles' The Lady from Shanghai. Welles' first film noir is a mixed bag, some scenes are amazing while others are workmanlike at best. Rita Hayworth and her swimwear steal the show. The Crew discusses… If you like our music intro, head over to Soundcloud and hear more amazing music from aquariusweapon. Episode 457: The Crew’s taking George's advice and buying a horse while watching Orson Welles' The Magnificent Ambersons. Mr Welles second feature film isn't as welled remembered as Citizen Kane, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be just as studied and enjoyed. Welles' shots are perfection; the character blocking, the lighting, and camera movement communicate so much to the audience. We're in the hands of a master. Episode 456: The Crew’s holding their best snow globes while watching Orson Welles' Citizen Kane. This film is often cited as THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE, and for good reason. The filmmaking techniques used to tell the story are impressive by today's standards, and the story unfolds at a wonderfully quick pace. Episode 455: The Crew’s wearing their tightest purple outfits while watching Simon Wincer's The Phantom. This comic strip character's film career was cut short by truly terrible box-office numbers, and some bad reviews. Which is a shame cause the film looks incredible and the cast is more than game. Episode 454: The Crew’s doing their best maniacal laugh while watching Russell Mulcahy's The Shadow. This masked vigilante character started on the radio instead of comic books, but that doesn't mean he isn't cinematic. The sets and costumes look fantastic, really embracing style over substance. It's too bad it bombed at the box office killing the franchise before it started. Episode 453: The Crew’s taking flight with snazzy jetpacks while watching Joe Johnston's The Rocketeer. This 90's superhero soars on the big screen thanks to some wonderful performances, truly great effects (that still look great today), and a lovingly recreated 1930s that's a feast for the eyes. Its a real shame this film didn't start the trilogy the filmmakers wanted. The Crew discusses… If you like our music intro, head over to Soundcloud and hear more amazing music from aquariusweapon.
