Revelation 2:12-17 Pergamum: Confronting Compromise | Revelation Part 1: The King Speaks | Sam Holm | 9-27-26

Revelation 2:12-17 Pergamum: Confronting Compromise   | Revelation Part 1: The King Speaks | Sam Holm | 9-27-26 Living faithfully in a culture that pulls in every direction is one of the greatest challenges facing believers today. Drawing from Revelation 2:12-17, Jesus speaks to the church in Pergamum, a city saturated with idol worship, emperor worship, and pagan temples. He commends their courage in holding fast to His name, even in the face of persecution and death. But He also confronts a dangerous pattern of compromise, where some were standing boldly in public while tolerating sin in private. Compromise rarely happens all at once. It creeps in one small step at a time, slowly pulling a person away from where they intended to be. Jesus calls the church to repentance, not as a punishment, but as an invitation to turn back toward Him. And to those who do, He promises something far greater than anything the world can offer: hidden manna, a white stone of innocence, and a new identity found only in Him.
Revelation 2:8-11 Smyrna: Jesus Knows | Revelation Part 1: The King Speaks | Sam Holm | 9-20-26

Revelation 2:8-11 Smyrna: Jesus Knows | Revelation Part 1: The King Speaks | Sam Holm | 9-20-26   It is possible to do all the right things as a Christian and still be missing the most important thing. The church in Ephesus was doctrinally sound, morally disciplined, and faithfully enduring, yet Jesus had one serious charge against them: they had abandoned their first love. Religion without love is simply activity without relationship. Jesus calls us to remember when our faith was alive, to repent and turn back toward Him, and to return to the practices that were present when our love for Him was real. We do not conquer through discipline or doctrinal precision alone, but through what Jesus has already done for us. The goal is not perfect performance. Jesus is asking for your heart.

Revelation 1:1-20 The Revelation of Jesus
2026/09/06
Revelation 1:1-20 The Revelation of Jesus | Revelation Part 1: The King Speaks | Sam Holm | 9-06-26 The Book of Revelation is not primarily about the Antichrist or end-times timelines. It is an unveiling of Jesus Christ. Revelation chapter one presents three dimensions of who Jesus is: the redeeming Jesus who suffered and died for our sins, the returning Jesus who will come back in unmistakable glory, and the reigning Jesus who is actively present and sovereign right now. When John received his vision on the island of Patmos, he saw a glorified, all-powerful King walking among His people. Jesus holds the keys to death and Hades, meaning He has authority over every hard thing we face. Whatever feels out of control in your life, Jesus is still reigning over it.
Matthew 28:18–20   Make Disciples - Follow The Pathway | Sam Holm | 8-30-26
2026/08/31
Matthew 28:18–20   Make Disciples - Follow The Pathway | Sam Holm | 8-30-26 Jesus gave every believer a clear mission in Matthew 28:16-20: make disciples of all nations. This calling is not reserved for pastors or missionaries. It belongs to every follower of Christ, regardless of background, title, or season of life. Making disciples happens through three practical actions: going with intention into your everyday life, sharing the gospel boldly and lovingly, and teaching others to obey what Jesus commanded. You do not need a platform or a perfect track record. You need willingness. Wherever you show up tomorrow, God has placed you there on purpose, and that is your mission field.
John 13:34-35 The New Standard - Follow The Pathway | Ben Purvis | 8-23-26
2026/08/24
John 13:34-35 The New Standard - Follow The Pathway | Ben Purvis | 8-23-26   What does it really mean to love one another? In John 13, Jesus gives His disciples a new commandment, but before He speaks a single word of it, He demonstrates it. He gets up from the table, picks up a towel, and begins washing His disciples' feet. In first-century culture, this was considered work beneath even a slave. And yet Jesus, fully aware of His power and authority, kneels on the floor and serves. This message explores what made Jesus' commandment to love truly new, how He modeled that love through action, and what it means for us to follow His example in our everyday relationships and in Christian community. Key topics covered include: •The difference between the Old Testament command to love your neighbor as yourself and Jesus' new standard of loving others as He has loved you •Why Jesus washed feet before giving the commandment, and what that order reveals about the nature of His love •Who was actually in the upper room that night, and why it matters for how we understand Christian community •How John carried the lessons of John 13 into the rest of his life and writing •Practical steps for moving toward people you have kept at a distance Whether you are exploring what the Bible says about love, trying to understand the meaning of John 13, looking for teaching on Christian community and relationships, or simply asking what it looks like to follow Jesus in real life, this message speaks directly to those questions. Relevant topics: John 13 explained, what does love one another mean, Jesus washing feet meaning, new commandment Bible, Christian community, how to love like Jesus, 1 John love, discipleship and relationships, loving difficult people, servant leadership in the Bible, what it means to follow Jesus, Bible teaching on love, upper room discourse, foot washing in the Bible, loving others as Christ loved us Jesus did not just talk about love. He picked up a towel. Now it is our turn.
Luke 10:25-37   Serve Others  - Follow The Pathway
2026/08/17
Luke 10:25-37   Serve Others  - Follow The Pathway The priest saw him. The Levite saw him. Both walked past. What makes you stop when everyone else keeps moving? Jesus told a story about the most unlikely hero imaginable, and His challenge at the end of it is still just as direct today: go and do likewise. Who in your life are you walking past right now?
Matthew 22:34–39 | Worship God
2026/08/10
Matthew 22:34–39 | Worship God | Sam Holm | Preached on Aug 9, 2026 What does it really mean to love God with all that you are? In Matthew 22:34–39, Jesus was asked to name the greatest commandment. His answer brought everything back to the foundation: Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself. In this message, Pastor Sam Holm begins our Discipleship Pathway series with Worship God, reminding us that the love Jesus describes is more than an emotion. It is wholehearted devotion expressed through action, obedience, and sacrifice. We love God because He first loved us, and when our love for Him comes first, it begins to shape every other part of our lives. Worship is more than singing on Sunday. We worship God personally through prayer, reading the Bible, and obedience, and we worship Him together as we gather, learn, pray, and sing. Wherever you are in your faith journey, there is a next step: Love God wholeheartedly, let that love shape the way you live, and share His love with the people around you.
Luke 10 | Prayer Sunday
2026/08/04
Luke 10 | Prayer Sunday | Series: Follow the Pathway   This Sunday, our church family set aside our usual rhythm for Prayer Sunday, intentionally seeking the Lord together through worship, Scripture, confession, Communion, and guided prayer. Opening Luke 10, Pastor Sam reminded us that before Jesus told His followers to "go," He first told them to pray. Prayer is not simply preparation for ministry—it is the power that fuels it.   Together, we prayed through each step of our Discipleship Pathway, asking God to deepen our worship, strengthen authentic community, grow hearts that joyfully serve others, and raise up disciple-makers for His harvest. We were reminded that Jesus modeled this dependence throughout His ministry, consistently turning to prayer before every significant step. Our hope is that First McKinney will continue to be a church that prays consistently, dependently, specifically, and expectantly, trusting that God alone changes hearts, builds His Church, and empowers His people to live and love like Jesus every day.
2 Chronicles 20 | Battle Strategies
2026/07/29
2 Chronicles 20 | Battle Strategies | Chris Havard | Preached July 26, 2026   What do you do when life takes an unexpected turn and the battle in front of you feels impossible to overcome? In this message from 2 Chronicles 20, Pastor Chris Havard walks through the story of King Jehoshaphat and shares five biblical battle strategies for facing fear, uncertainty, and overwhelming circumstances. Rather than relying on human strength, Jehoshaphat sought the Lord, prayed with humility, waited for God's direction, praised Him before the victory, and stepped forward in faith.   This message reminds us that faith is not a formula for getting the outcome we want. Instead, God uses both victories and hardships to transform us into the image of Jesus. Whether you're facing anxiety, loss, uncertainty, or a difficult season, you'll discover practical encouragement and lasting hope found in trusting God. The battle may feel overwhelming, but God is faithful, and through Jesus Christ, we can confidently place our eyes on Him. Philippians 4:10–23 | Contentment in Christ
2026/07/21
Philippians 4:10–23 | Contentment in Christ | Series: Philippians, Summer of Joy | Sam Holm | Preached Jul 19, 2026  What does it take to find lasting contentment when life always seems to call for more? In the final message of our Summer of Joy series, Pastor Sam teaches from Philippians 4:10-23, where the Apostle Paul reveals the secret of contentment. Writing from prison, Paul explains that contentment is not found in comfort, success, or possessions but is learned through trusting Christ in every circumstance. Philippians 4:13 is not a promise of unlimited achievement but a reminder that Christ gives us the strength to faithfully endure whatever life brings. Paul also points to generosity as the overflow of a heart anchored in eternity. When we hold our circumstances loosely, depend on Christ daily, and invest in what lasts forever, we discover that true contentment is found not in having enough but in knowing that Christ is enough.
Philippians 4:1-9 | Rejoice! The Lord is Near
2026/07/13
Philippians 4:1-9 - Rejoice! The Lord is Near | Series: Philippians, Summer of Joy | Justin Hornsby | Preached Jul 12, 2026 How can you experience peace when relationships are strained, anxiety feels overwhelming, or your thoughts won't slow down? In this message from Philippians 4:1-9, Worship Pastor Justin Hornsby continues our Summer of Joy series by reminding us that lasting joy and peace are found in one powerful truth: the Lord is near. The Apostle Paul encourages believers to stand firm in Christ by pursuing unity, choosing reconciliation over division, and extending gentleness to others. He also calls us to replace anxiety with prayer, bringing every concern to God with thankful hearts. While God never promises a life without difficulties, He does promise a peace that surpasses understanding and guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, Paul challenges us to intentionally focus our thoughts on whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and worthy of praise. What fills our minds shapes how we live. Whether you're facing uncertainty, worry, conflict, or simply longing for deeper joy, this message offers biblical encouragement and practical hope rooted in the nearness of Jesus.
Philippians 3:12-21 | How to Be a Mature Citizen
2026/07/07
Philippians 3:12-21 - How to Be a Mature Citizen | Series: Philippians, Summer of Joy | Sam Holm | Preached Jul 5, 2026 In Philippians 3:12-21, Pastor Sam challenged us to ask: Where are you looking for hope when life feels uncertain? While the world points us toward politics, success, or circumstances, Paul points us to Jesus. Followers of Christ are called to look ahead by pursuing spiritual maturity, look around by following and becoming Christlike examples, and look up by remembering that our ultimate citizenship is in heaven. Lasting joy isn't found in the changing things of this world but in the unchanging hope we have in Christ.   Maturing followers of Jesus find lasting joy by fixing their eyes on Christ and living as citizens of heaven. Outline: Look Ahead — Press on toward knowing Christ. (Philippians 3:12-16) Look Around — Follow Christlike examples and help others follow Jesus. (Philippians 3:17-19) Look Up — Live with heaven as your true citizenship and eagerly await Christ's return. (Philippians 3:20-21)
Philippians 3:1-11 | Knowing Jesus
2026/06/29
Philippians 3:1–11 - Knowing Jesus | Series: Philippians, Summer of Joy | Sam Holm | Preached 6-28-26 10:45 AM What really defines your worth: your accomplishments, reputation, morality, or success? In this message from Philippians 3:1–11, Sam Holm challenges us to consider what truly counts. The Apostle Paul shows that every gain the world offers, including success, family, religion, or self-righteousness, without knowing Christ is ultimately loss. Yet every loss, when joined with knowing Christ, becomes gain. Through faith in Jesus, we receive the righteousness we could never earn on our own. Philippians 3:10–11 reveals Paul’s deepest desire: to know Jesus, experience the power of His resurrection, and walk with Him even in suffering. This message reminds us that lasting joy is found in Jesus alone, and that He uses even our hardest seasons to draw us closer to Him. The goal of the Christian life is not merely getting to heaven someday, but knowing Jesus more deeply every day.
