We speak with Joycelyn Fish, Marketing and Development Director at the Racine Theater Guild, about a free special event coming up this Sunday afternoon, October 4th, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the opening of the current home of the Racine Theater Guild. (There is no admission charge, but people are asked to reserve a free ticket either through the box office or via the guild's website, which is racinetheatre.org.). In the conversation, we also look back at the challenging years when the RTG did not have a location of its own- and about the years when it presented live theater in a small, converted church- and about the considerable discussion and planning that went into designing and constructing what is its current home.

We talk about the narrated musical work "Lovers of Liberty" that will be performed as part of the dedication of the newly refurbished Ceremonial Courtroom in the Kenosha County Courthouse this weekend. We speak with Julia Nowicki, who had primary responsible for putting the work together, Ben Woods, who is serving as its narrator, and Jesse Gomez and Heather Kamikawa, who are two of the string musicians participating in these performances. Sunday afternoon at 1:30 is the public's primary opportunity to experience this work.

This special anniversary season of simulcasts is being celebrated with a special program featuring highlights from some of the 185 simulcasts that the Met has shared over the past 20 years. This special will be screened at hundreds of movie theaters across the country, including Racine's Renaissance Theater., at 1:00 today (Saturday, Sept. 19th.) The Metropolitan Opera is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its groundbreaking Live in HD series .... in which live performances from the Met are beamed to hundreds of movie theaters across the country. This interview with Met general mangers Peter Gelb was recorded in the fall of 2006, right before the first of the 185 simulcasts that have been seen over the past two decades. This 20th anniversary season of simulcasts is actually beginning with a special program featuring highlights from past simulcasts. Beloved soprano Renee Fleming is the host. The special will be screened at Racine's Renaissance Theater on Saturday, September 19th, at 1 pm. (Kenosha's Tinseltown Theater is not showing tomorrow's special- but will be showing the simulcasts comprising the rest of the season.). More information is available at metopera.org.

In honor of the 60th anniversary of the opening of the new Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center on September 16, 1966, we replay a portion of a conversation with Susan Froemke, who directed and co-produced a documentary film titled "The Opera House". that chronicles the long and complicated story of how the Met found it necessary to find a new home, the arduous process by which the location and design of that new home, and the monumental challenges involved with the world premiere production of Samuel Barber's ANTONY & CLEOPATRA that opened the house with Leontyne Price. (The film can be view via the Met's website, metopera.org.)
