Description

Our goal here is simply to talk about the spiritual life from a Carmelite perspective - something that we already do in the monastery on a regular basis. Through this podcast, we hope to open the conversation up for you to listen and join in. We’re by no means experts on these topics, but we believe that our Carmelite tradition and saints have a lot to offer to those seeking to grow closer to God.

Marian Apparitions and Carmel
2026/06/05
Lourdes, Fatima, Our Lady of Guadalupe—each of these Marian apparitions has Carmelite connections, and many Carmelite saints experienced Marian apparitions of their own. In this episode, we explore the Carmelite understanding of Marian apparitions and the wisdom of the Carmelite saints in responding to these extraordinary experiences.  Order our new book Flos Carmeli: A Guide to Marian Consecration Through the Brown Scapular: https://www.icspublications.org/products/flos-carmeli-a-guide-to-marian-consecration-through-the-brown-scapular For more information: http://www.icspublications.org http://www.discalcedcarmel.org http://ocdfriarsvocation.org   Contact us with comments, questions, and suggestions at [email protected]

St. John of the Cross and the Blessed Virgin Mary
2026/05/22
St. John of the Cross makes few explicit references to the Blessed Virgin Mary in his writings, yet it could be said that all of his work is profoundly Marian. In this episode, we explore the role of Mary in his life, spirituality, and writings. The Marian Roots of Carmel
2026/05/01
The Carmelite Order began in the early 13th century, yet it has always looked much further back—to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Prophet Elijah—as the source of its spiritual roots. In this episode, we explore how those roots place Mary at the heart of Carmel.  For more information: http://www.icspublications.org http://www.discalcedcarmel.org http://ocdfriarsvocation.org   Contact us with comments, questions, and suggestions at [email protected]
The Silence of Christ's Passion
2026/04/03
The Passion of Christ is not exhausted by words—it is something we must learn to hear again. And that begins in silence. Visit  retreat-online.karmel.at to sign up for the 2026 Online Carmelite Retreat Texts
The Cost of Mary’s Yes
2026/03/29
Mary’s yes to God was not sentimental. It was costly. From the prophecy of Simeon to the shadow of Calvary, she knew that obedience would lead to suffering. Yet she did not withdraw her Fiat. She entrusted everything to the Father — even her beloved Son. Why would she say yes to a path marked by the cross? And if obedience leads to sacrifice, would we do the same? In this reflection, we look at the cost of Mary’s yes — and what it means for our own faith. Visit  retreat-online.karmel.at to sign up for the 2026 Online Carmelite Retreat Texts
You Can't Do This Alone
2026/03/21
You weren’t meant to do this alone. We keep trying to fix ourselves, prove ourselves, and become better on our own—but that’s exactly where we fail. The spiritual life isn’t about independence. It’s about union. Jesus reveals that true freedom comes not from self-reliance, but from living completely with the Father. And apart from Him, we can do nothing. In this reflection, we confront the root of our struggle—and the only way out.
Why Lent Feels Like a Maze
2026/03/15
Lent can feel like a maze. But where is it all leading? Lent is not a program of self-improvement. It is part of something far greater: our transformation into the divine life of God. In this video, we explore why Lent exists and how Mary shows us the final goal. Visit  retreat-online.karmel.at to sign up for the 2026 Online Carmelite Retreat Texts
Lent Feels Worse? That Might Be a Good Sign
2026/03/08
Have you ever kept your Lenten resolutions and still felt worse instead of better? What if that discomfort isn’t failure — but a sign that something deeper is happening? This reflection explores why Lent can feel harder precisely when it’s doing its work. Visit  retreat-online.karmel.at to sign up for the 2026 Online Carmelite Retreat Texts
If Jesus Won… Why Am I Still Suffering?
2026/02/28
If Christ has already won the victory, why does suffering remain? In this reflection we turn to St John of the Cross and the mystery of the Crucified Christ to understand why victory does not always mean removal of pain. The Cross was not a display of strength but of weakness transformed by love. And that changes everything for how we endure our trials today. Lent Isn’t About Your Plan
2026/02/21
Lent is not a self-improvement program. It is not about our plans our projects or our performance. From the beginning Lent was a preparation for Baptism a time to empty our hands and receive the life God wants to give. Drawing from St John of the Cross and the meaning of Christian obedience this reflection explores what it really means to follow Christ. We cannot follow Him while clinging to our own will. Lent invites us to let go to trust the Father and to learn how to live at the pace of grace. Visit  retreat-online.karmel.at to sign up for the 2026 Online Carmelite Retreat Texts
