They then get into the little known, but truthful discussion about the existence of “the list”. Not of public record, rarely discussed, all the big Hollywood studios have actors on a virtual list. If you are lucky enough to be on this list, the doors of opportunity are far and wide, you are most often the first choice when casting a role. If one is not on the list, they must fight, scratch and claw for any scraps that may fall from the main dinner table. And finally, Alimi breaks down the difference between a Guest Star role and Series Regular on our favorite television shows. What it feels like for actors to walk on a set as a Guest Star as opposed to a Regular. He says, “your job is to burn their house down, the show already has started the fire, the guest star needs to come in as gasolina”!! Imagine walking into a families house for Thanksgiving dinner and you don’t know anyone, but you are expected to know where everything is, how to do everything without error, but also ask permission to use the bathroom, utensils, sit at the dinner table.
