Struggling to be heard in a world built for extroverts with Richard Etienne
2021/10/24
Businesses, schools and universities will be encouraged to think in-depth about the challenges faced by those who struggle to be heard in a world built for extroverts. One in three of Britain's population are believed to be introvert but the ‘shy’ personality of an introvert means "added layers of exclusion" for black people both in the workplace and the classroom, according to the man championing the movement: Richard Etienne. He wants companies, schools and universities to think again about how they can recognise and nurture the talents of those whose personalities are misunderstood and whose skills are all too often overlooked. In this episode of Share Your Difference, CG founder Steve Randall talks to Richard about life as an introvert and how ethnicity adds another level to potential exclusion. Richard also shares an insightful view of the way we label people, specifically the often-used BAME tag which lumps all Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic people together as if they are all one group with the same experiences and challenges. A clothing brand with a purpose with Justin Proud
2021/09/09
Mental health is such a big issue today, in society but also for business. Joining Steve Randall on this episode is someone who knows only too well how mental health can affect lives, and he’s using his experience of it for a purpose-driven clothing brand. Justin Proud has created Solis to give hope of a brighter future for those with depression. He shares how his personal experience led him to a brand that meant more to him than the generic products business he had previously run, or the banking job that he feels contributed to his depression. Justin wants Solis to make a difference to others with depression, by inspiring hope but also by helping to fund the work of the Samaritans - £5 from the sale of each Solis t-shirt goes to the charity which says it costs £5 to answer each of its often life-saving calls. Find out more about Solis and Justin's story at https://www.findsolis.com and check out the Instagram feed: https://www.instagram.com/findsolis/ The Samaritans can be reached via their website: https://www.samaritans.org and if you or someone you know needs their help, call 116 123 in the UK from any phone.
