How to Heal Your Nervous System When You Feel Like the Problem, with Lori Montry
2026/10/20
Spend five minutes on Instagram, and you'll get a message about something else you need to fix. Buy this hair curler, get these sneakers, and starting tomorrow morning, drink the water, get the sleep, and be the best at everything you do all the time. It's exhausting, and honestly, it makes us feel terrible. Who can change that many things at once? I'm Sarah Walton, a wealth consciousness coach and the host of the Game On Girlfriend® podcast, where we talk about wealth in every area of life: money, health, relationships, and personal growth. Today, I sit down with Lori Montry, a somatic practitioner and the author of You're Not the Problem. In our conversation, she shares how to heal your nervous system by changing the relationship underneath your behavior, instead of trying to fix the behavior itself. Right now, a lot of women are lying awake at night, worried about money, the economy, or whether they're doing enough. If that sounds familiar, girlfriend, this episode is for you. Lori isn't going to hand you 89,000 things to change. Instead, she shows you where to start, and you might want to bookmark this one and come back to it a few times. So drop your shoulders, unclench your teeth, pop in your earphones, and let's get to it.   WHAT YOU'LL LEARN How Lori went from Harvard Law School to somatic work, and why she calls it her second life The question Lori asked about her emotional eating and perfectionism that started it all Why so many of us decide as kids that we're the problem, and why that was actually brilliant at the time What it means to have your expansive self beside you 100% of the time, even when money doesn't feel safe The three things your system needs: safety, capacity, and energy Why your nervous system is your compass, not something to control Lori's five-times-a-day check-in, and what to do when you have no idea what your body is telling you Why Lori's book starts with the basement, not the second-floor balcony   LORI'S GIFT TO YOU Lori created a free check-in practice called Your Nervous System Is Talking: Learning to Listen. It walks you through how to pause, rate your system, and notice what it's telling you, so you can start providing what you need to thrive. Lori calls it the starting point. After graduating from Harvard Law School and building a successful legal career, Lori found herself facing many of the same challenges she now helps others navigate. Her personal journey led her to years of studying nervous system regulation, trauma, behavior change, and self-leadership, work that became the foundation of her book, You're Not the Problem. She lives in Colorado with her husband, Ron, and is a mother of six, a competitive runner, and a passionate advocate for helping people create lives that feel more aligned, meaningful, and fulfilling.   READY TO MAKE MORE WEALTH FEEL SAFE? How to Create Opportunities by Listening to Your Heart, with Debi Hemmeter
2026/10/06
I talk all the time about how the pathways to wealth are always here. We just don't always see them. And by wealth, I don't only mean money. I mean loving what you do, letting your heart be full, and living a life that's true to you. This conversation is packed with evidence of how real those pathways are. I'm sitting down with Debi Hemmeter, president of the Inner Mountain Foundation and co-founder of the global Lean In movement alongside Sheryl Sandberg. After 25+ years as a Fortune 50 executive at PepsiCo, Wells Fargo, and Bank of America, Debi now helps women stop chasing external noise and start leading from the inside out. She has such a beautiful, contagious energy, and she seems to create prosperity, opportunity, and joy everywhere she goes. Debi shares three stories that show how you can create opportunities you want, even when the path isn't obvious yet. Right now, with so much uncertainty and so much competing for your attention, it's easy to let the outside noise decide what you're supposed to want. So listen to this one looking for evidence for yourself. Pop in those earphones, take these lessons to heart, and let's get to it.   WHAT YOU'LL LEARN Why Debi uses "the dash between your birth and your death" to decide what to do with her life How a guessed Harvard email address got a reply from Sheryl Sandberg within 30 minutes, and what Debi offered to do when they met How a vitality week in the Hamptons turned into five years helping fitness trainer Tracy Anderson build her business How Debi's daughter got the exact role she wanted at the Four Seasons when there wasn't even an open job Why outward success can still feel hollow, and the snooze-alarm signal Debi says to pay attention to What Sheryl taught Debi about resilience, and why clarity makes resilience easier Practical ways to start listening to your heart, from editing who's in your life to walking without a podcast on Why aspirational thoughts won't get you there, and what Debi says to do today instead   DEBI'S GIFT TO YOU Debi is offering a free masterclass through the Inner Mountain Foundation all about listening to your heart. The Achievement Wound: Why Success Never Feels Like Enough
2026/09/29
There's a specific feeling that hits about 45 seconds after something great happens. You have a great launch, reach a new milestone, or get a raise, and almost right away, your brain starts asking, "What now? Was this enough?" I see it in every single woman I coach. Recently, I realized how much of it was running inside me, too. On this solo episode of the Game On Girlfriend® podcast, I'm giving that feeling a name: the achievement wound. From the outside, it looks like ambition and success, and those things are real. Inside, though, it feels like a treadmill that never stops. In fact, the more successful you become, the worse it gets. If people look at you and wonder how you're doing it all while you quietly wonder whether any of it is enough, this one's for you. We're not talking about doing more. Instead, we're talking about finally seeing yourself, and it's the start of a free 5-day challenge I'm hosting to help you heal this wound.   WHAT YOU'LL LEARN What the Achievement Wound actually is, and where it starts Why it's nearly invisible from the outside (it looks like success) The signs: deflecting compliments, anxiety after wins, over-giving without receiving Real client stories of financial and personal transformation Why healing has to happen in the body, not just the mind How to join the free 5-day "Heal Your Achievement Wound" Challenge starting October 2nd FREE 5-DAY CHALLENGE: HEAL YOUR ACHIEVEMENT WOUND I'm doing something I've never done before. Starting Friday, October 2, I'm hosting a free 5-day challenge called Heal Your Achievement Wound. How to Give Yourself Permission — with Charlotte Jukes
2026/09/22
Some people just make us feel calm. You call them when you're upset, you love being in their presence, and you keep going back for their advice because they feel so wise and so joyful to be around. If those are your people, you're going to love my conversation with Charlotte Jukes. She's one of my favorite people to be with, and there's so much going on right now that a lot of us could use a little of that. I'm sitting down with Charlotte Jukes, an ICM Mastery Method coach, former registered nurse, and host of the Pickleball & Partnership podcast. I've spent VIP days with her, and I've watched her manage massive rooms on Zoom. The second she starts speaking, she calms and soothes everyone and brings us all back home to what actually matters. Charlotte spent 37 years as a nurse, and now she coaches people, mostly women, using nervous system and somatic work. When I asked Charlotte what she thinks is the most meaningful shift someone can make, she gave me two words: permission and compassion. We talk about what it looks like to give yourself permission, why so many of us hand out compassion to everyone but ourselves, and how she got to both in her own life.   WHAT YOU'LL LEARN The simple Band-Aid practice Charlotte uses to show what "somatic" means, and why she says the body holds the wisdom Why Charlotte says she feels her calling in her gut, and what she does when she doesn't know the how or the why What happened when she heard "do the safe thing" as a teenager, and how she balances her grounded side with her curious, adventurous one Why she tested nervous system work on herself before she taught it, and how staying calm changes the energy of a room, even in a crisis The story of what turned out to be her last day as a nurse, and how it taught her she could give herself compassion How pickleball became one of her best teachers in play, laughing at yourself, and noticing what triggers you   CHARLOTTE'S GIFT TO YOU As her gift to Girlfriends, Charlotte is offering a Complimentary Clarity Call. Why You're Afraid to Sell — with Nikki Rausch
2026/09/15
If you run a business, you have to know how to sell — and yet so many of us do this thing I call the mom voice the second it's time to say a price out loud. Something like, "It's $300," in this careful, coaxing tone, like we're convincing a kid to tie their shoes. Meanwhile we're talking to a fully capable adult who actually wants to work with us. This week I'm joined by Nikki Rausch, a sales strategist, speaker, and the founder of Sales Maven. Nikki spent 17 years in corporate sales, mostly in a male-dominated, technology-driven world, before she started coaching women entrepreneurs on exactly what she'd learned along the way. Now, with more than 25 years of sales experience and a background as a Master Certified Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, she teaches service-based entrepreneurs how to have sales conversations that lead to yeses, without feeling pushy or fake. Nikki and I get into why so many of us freeze up, get weird, or avoid the conversation altogether the moment sales comes up, and what actually shifts once you stop treating selling as something you do to a person and start treating it as something you do with them. I loved hearing her real client examples throughout this one, including a story about a client who pictured her ideal buyer as a polished, highly paid professional, while the people actually showing up to hire her were moms in hoodies with their hair in a bun — herself included. If you've ever felt weird about naming your price, or wondered why some sales conversations feel so much harder than others, this episode is for you.   WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: The one condition that has to be in place before you ever try to sell to someone, and why most people skip it entirely The two habits Nikki sees that quietly sabotage sales conversations, including one she calls "hallucinating" what the other person is thinking How a simple "softening phrase" makes it so much easier to ask the budget question everyone's afraid to ask What a "rapport bank account" is, and why every early interaction is either a deposit or a withdrawal Nikki's "cat calling versus dog calling" framework for creating curiosity without coming on too strong Why your first 10 seconds, and the next two minutes, decide whether someone trusts you, and what that means for how you show up   NIKKI'S GIFT TO YOU As her gift to Girlfriends, Nikki is sharing her Sales Follow-Up Made Easy Guide — proven follow-up strategies, ready-to-use scripts, and techniques to build trust and stay top-of-mind with your leads, so you're never stuck wondering what to say or when to send it. Why Strength Training in Midlife Isn't Optional — with Mary Ellen Loranger
2026/09/08
My guest this week had a childhood nickname: Muscles. She wasn't the smallest kid on the block, but she could always outrun the boys and knock a softball clean out of the park. Somewhere along the way, that name got buried — and stayed that way for decades. Mary Ellen Loranger is a 56-year-old entrepreneur, author, and wellness leader who's spent the past eight years, alongside her husband Wayne, coaching thousands of women through nutrition, health, and lifestyle transformation. A former Ironman athlete, she's spent the last few years building Midlife Strong®, a strength training and mindset platform for women navigating midlife and menopause. I work with a lot of health coaches one-on-one, and right now they're going through a massive shift inside their industry because of GLP-1 medications — the wave of drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy. I think it's an incredible opportunity for entrepreneurs, you included, to understand how to pivot when the market changes on you. That's exactly what's happening with Mary Ellen — she's had no choice but to pivot her own business right along with it. In this episode, we get into what that shift means for muscle, for metabolic health, and for anyone whose industry is changing under them. This one isn't just for people who care about fitness. It's for any woman in midlife who's been told to shrink back, slow down, or settle, and for any entrepreneur trying to figure out what to do when the ground shifts under their business.   WHAT YOU'LL LEARN Why Mary Ellen's childhood nickname, "Muscles," disappeared for decades, and what finally brought it back to the surface What the GLP-1 boom is doing to muscle mass, and why protein and strength training matter more now than they used to The misconception about building muscle after 40 or 50 that the research says just isn't true What a "progressive overload" strength training program actually looks like, and how to start with nothing but a couple of dumbbells The simple three-part protocol Mary Ellen gives every client, whether they're on a GLP-1 or not Why she and her husband just invested in a gym instead of keeping all their eggs in one basket   SPECIAL GIFT FROM MARY ELLEN As her gift to Girlfriends, Mary Ellen is offering half of a four-week, customized progressive overload strength training plan through her Midlife Strong® app, for home or gym, at any level, for $25. She's also offering $50 off any nutrition plan — fat loss, calorie deficit, optimization, or GLP-1 nutrition plans. A former endurance athlete who completed multiple Ironman competitions, she now focuses on strength training and empowering women to build muscle, confidence, and resilience. She founded Midlife Strong®, a platform that supports women navigating midlife and menopause through nutrition, strength training, and mindset coaching. Mary Ellen is also the bestselling author of Win Today: A Jersey Girl's Guide to Living Your Best Life and Called to More: Stepping Boldly into God's Purpose in Midlife – A 30-Day Devotional. The Mother Line: The Real Block to Receiving — with Sabine O'Laughlin
2026/09/01
My guest this week spent forty years studying death — first as a pathologist doing autopsies, later coaching people from inside her own pathology office. What she found in that work wasn't morbid. She found more life force in the morgue than she usually found walking around on an ordinary day, and that contradiction sent her looking for why. Sabine O'Laughlin calls what she found the mother line: the idea that everybody has one mother, whatever your relationship with her looks like, and that mother gave you exactly one thing — your life. Until you can accept that fully, Sabine says, you stay closed off to receiving — not just love, but money, health, and everything else too. This conversation is one I needed to hear myself, as someone who works in wealth consciousness all day and doesn't have a relationship with my own mother. This episode gets into where that shows up in your body, what giving too much can actually cost you, and what changes once you do this work.   WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: The three principles that hold family systems together — belonging, order, and the balance of give and receive — and what happens when any of them is out of balance Why being "a little bit dead" isn't dramatic — it's any place you learned to hold back to keep your caretakers happy, and how it shows up in your posture, your jaw, and your voice Why the giver, not the taker, is usually the one who kills a relationship, and how over-giving can be a form of control dressed up as generosity What it might mean if you've always felt like the black sheep of your family, and why that role usually isn't random Why Sabine says money is an energy, not a thing, and why nothing you buy will work until you can take in the source of your own wealth What changed for Sabine the day her mother died, and how it turned into four decades of studying death for a living   TAKE SABINE'S FREE ENERGY LEAK AUDIT Curious where your own energy might be leaking? Finding Your Fit as an Entrepreneur — with Lindsey Busfield
2026/08/25
Lindsey Busfield's resume doesn't look like it belongs to one person. Starbucks barista. English teacher. Auditor of Amish chicken barns. Now she's the vice president of one of the country's top legal marketing firms. None of it was the plan. For years, Lindsey figured she'd eventually run her own business, the same way her entrepreneurial parents had. Then a two-day aptitude test told her something different: she wasn't built to be the visionary founder. She was built to be the expert, the organizer, the person who makes the pieces actually run. In this episode, Lindsey and I talk about what shifted once she stopped fighting that, how she landed in SEO for personal injury lawyers almost by accident, and why she built her business, and her team's schedule, around time with her two young daughters instead of just a bigger bank account. We also break down what SEO actually is, in plain language, and why it matters even more now that AI is part of how people search.     WHAT YOU'LL LEARN Why a philosophy degree really only points toward two career paths, and how the less obvious one led Lindsey to Starbucks What auditing Amish chicken barns taught her about process and project management, and why that skill kept following her from job to job What a two-day aptitude test at Johnson O'Connor revealed about the gap between the entrepreneur Lindsey assumed she'd become and who she actually is The real difference between being a subject matter expert and being a visionary founder, and why knowing which one you are changes how you build What SEO actually is, explained simply, and why AI search has changed what it takes for a business to get found Why Lindsey designed her agency's culture, and her own schedule, around time freedom instead of chasing a bigger bank account alone     RESOURCES MENTIONED Johnson O'Connor aptitude testing — the two-day assessment Lindsey credits with changing the direction of her career Lindsey's book, How Personal Injury Lawyers Get Leads: What Works, What Doesn't, and Why — https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0H1NB4ZDK Optimize My Firm — https://optimizemyfirm.com/ Personal Injury Marketing Minute podcast, hosted by Lindsey     CONNECT WITH LINDSEY BUSFIELD Website: Optimize My Firm — https://optimizemyfirm.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lindsey-busfield/ Optimize My Firm on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/optimizemyfirm/ Her book: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0H1NB4ZDK     ABOUT LINDSEY BUSFIELD Lindsey Busfield is the vice president of Optimize My Firm, one of the nation's leading legal marketing firms. Certainty Is a Skill (And You Can Learn It)
2026/08/18
Most of us think certainty means confidence — that bold, "everything always works out for me" kind of energy. It doesn't. Confidence is built on evidence: you earn it by looking back at what you've already proven. Certainty is different. It's a deep inner knowing you can access before you have any proof at all, and it's one of the most important skills for building a genuinely wealthy life — not just a life with more money in it, but one where you trust your next move even when you can't yet explain why. In this solo episode, I break down the real difference between certainty and confidence, why we mix the two up, and how you can start practicing certainty as an actual skill — starting this week.   WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: What an Italian vineyard taught me about digging deeper roots instead of panicking when things feel scarce My jeans story — what it feels like when your intuition is right, even when it makes no sense at the time How Jamie Kern Lima built a billion-dollar company by trusting her own knowing over an investor's "no" Why your imagination is either your greatest asset or your biggest liability The negativity bias — and how to work with it instead of against it Two questions to ask yourself this week to start practicing certainty right now   RESOURCES MENTIONED  Believe It by Jamie Kern Lima (referenced in the episode) — https://amzn.to/4c5mk64   READY TO TRUST YOURSELF? Joy as a Default Setting — with Roberta Ravella, Founder of The Joy Experiment
2026/08/11
Roberta Ravella spent 25 years in mortgage origination. She was good at it. She was also, by her own account, a classic case of burnout. She tried coaching. She tried marketing. She even opened an AI business with a friend. Two months in, something in her said no, and she couldn't push past it the way she used to. So she stopped. Her mentor sent her on a six-week break with one rule: shut it all off. What Roberta found on the other side of that break is what she now calls The Joy Experiment. This conversation is about what it took to get there, and what her mornings look like now that she's arrived.   WHAT YOU'LL LEARN  Why Roberta calls her old business model "golden bricks" she couldn't build anything out of The real difference between a priority and an energetic value, and why mixing them up keeps you stuck How years of chronic stomach pain led Roberta to nervous system work she didn't know she needed Why she says "your definition of easy needs to grow up," and what that looks like in practice Why joy doesn't have to be something you earn at the end of a long to-do list   ROBERTA'S FREE GIFT FOR GAME ON GIRLFRIEND® LISTENERS Roberta's book, Open for Business: How To Build A Business You Love Without The Hustle And Grind, will be free on Kindle for 10 days starting on this episode's publish date of August 11, 2026. Why You Struggle to Receive Money (Even When You're Good at Making It)
2026/08/04
Most of us don't actually have trouble making money. It's the keeping of it — the receiving of it — that's the problem. If you added up how much money has passed through your hands over your lifetime, the number would probably surprise you. It comes in, you manage it, you pay bills, and then it's "gone," so you never really see how much you're circulating. That's not a money-making problem. That's a receiving problem, and most women were never taught the skill. In this solo episode, I break down what receiving actually is, why we were never taught to do it, and how you can start practicing it today.   WHAT YOU'LL LEARN The friendship bracelet story that reveals exactly when we're taught to stop receiving Why women in particular tend to under-apply for things they're qualified for — and where that pattern comes from Why your natural gifts were meant to become your living, not something you give away for free What a $40,000 handbag taught me about the difference between having money and actually receiving it Where you're already wealthy right now, even before more money shows up Small daily practices that start building your capacity to receive   RESOURCES MENTIONED Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg    READY TO BUILD YOUR BUSINESS? Real Estate Investing One Step at a Time — with Abi Horton, Founder of Aros
2026/07/28
For years, Abi Horton believed real estate investing wasn't for her. Not enough money, not enough experience, not the right background. So she stayed on the sidelines and told herself it was something for later. Then things shifted, not through one big moment, but through a lot of small, unplanned ones. Voice acting taught her she was capable of running a business. That confidence opened a door she hadn't been looking for, and stepping through it eventually led to Aros, a real estate investment technology company built around mid-term rentals. Abi is candid about what that process actually looked like- no highlight reel, no shortcut. If you've ever told yourself you need more money, more time, or more expertise before you can start, this conversation is for you.   WHAT YOU'LL LEARN The mindset block that kept Abi out of real estate investing for years, and what it actually took to move past it How she used free resources like Facebook groups and networking events to educate herself, without an insider connection Why she calls building a business "one foot in front of the other," and why that mindset matters more than a single lightbulb moment What mid-term rentals actually are, and who needs this kind of housing (traveling nurses, insurance displacement, workers relocating for big projects) How a gap in the relocation housing market led her to build Aros Her advice for someone starting from zero who feels like they need everything figured out before they begin   ABI'S FREE GIFT FOR GAME ON GIRLFRIEND® LISTENERS Top Tips for Managing Your Mid-Term Rental Out of State. Originally from the UK, Abi started her career in real estate at 18 before later becoming a full-time voice actor and entrepreneur. After building relationships with insurance relocation companies for her own rentals, she recognized how fragmented the temporary housing process was and founded Aros to create a more direct, relationship-driven solution for mid-term housing. She helps landlords build sustainable businesses beyond traditional listing platforms and speaks openly about entrepreneurship, mental resilience, and the realities of building a business from the ground up.   READY TO BUILD YOUR CONFIDENCE? 342. The Energy Drains for Women Entrepreneurs No One Warns You About
2026/07/21
Some days you do everything right, and by 3 p.m. you're still completely wiped out. That's not burnout from working too hard. It's the specific exhaustion of doing tasks that were never yours to carry in the first place. In this solo episode, I walk through the exact questions I ask my own clients when they tell me they should be further along by now, or that something feels harder for them than it looks for everyone else online. Grab a journal, because I want you to actually answer these questions as you listen.   WHAT YOU'LL LEARN  The exact question to ask when a task drains you, even when you're good at it Why forcing yourself into what feels unnatural costs you more than it earns you How to tell when you're performing instead of being yourself, and why it drains more than just an evening Why someone else's strengths were never meant to be the yardstick for yours How to spot the parts of your business where you already work with real clarity The story of a doctor who walked away days before the finish line, and why her decision applies to your business too   RESOURCES MENTIONED  Good Energy by Casey Means: https://amzn.to/4u1AHz2   READY TO BUILD YOUR BUSINESS? How to Increase Your Capacity for Happiness — with Dr. Peggy DeLong, The Gratitude Psychologist™
2026/07/14
Most of us have been told, at some point or another, to just be happy. Just let it go. Just choose joy. And if you've tried that and found it completely unhelpful, you are in very good company. Dr. Peggy DeLong is back on the podcast for her third visit, and what she shares in this episode about how to increase your capacity for happiness is not what most people are teaching. It's not about ignoring what's hard. It's not about thinking positively until the feeling kicks in. And it has nothing to do with luck or your current circumstances. Peggy discovered the power of gratitude while sitting by her fiancé's side as he was dying from an aggressive cancer. She was 26. She didn't push the grief away. She felt it — and that turned out to be the beginning of everything she now teaches. If you've ever been told to just cheer up and wanted to throw something, this one is for you.   WHAT YOU'LL LEARN Why pushing emotional pain aside actually makes it harder to access real happiness — and what to do instead How your capacity for joy is in direct proportion to your capacity to feel pain What collective effervescence is and why it matters more than we think How human connection with complete strangers predicts happiness just as much as our closest relationships What the three Ps — present, pleasure, and purpose — have to do with breaking the high-achieving cycle Peggy's four Ps for building positive mental health: prioritize, plan, practice, prosper   DR.
