Elaborating on the "Extraordinary" - Sermon - November 1, 2026
2026/11/01
Dear "Joint Citizens" of the "Wisdom of God-Displaying"-City of Hillside: Tomorrow we gather again for the practices that put us in touch with God's Spirit and re-bond us as a family. First, we'll drive through the Parkmead neighborhood, bearing "automotive witness" that there's someone very important to meet at the top of the hill. After greeting each other, praising God in song, and listening to a message from Ephesians 2:11-22, we'll meet our Lord at his table in Communion. Please pray for Hillsiders who won't be able to make it tomorrow, like our good friend Kit Hill who's in the hospital. Pray that Kit's doctors will figure out what's causing his pain. Looking forward to being in King Jesus' loving and wise presence with you tomorrow. And excited about the new people who might be joining us for the first time. Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 10:00 AM both online and in person as Dan Seitz teaches from Ephesians 2:11-22. This week's sermon notes are available at: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZO0YSJZDezRW3WAn102cuaFwIS2SmnzOJty If you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our website: https://www.hillsidecovenant.org/ We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! The "Trio" in the "Tapestry" - Sermon - October 25, 2026
2026/10/26
Dear Hillside: It's Saturday morning which means we gather tomorrow at 10:00 AM as the "joint-citizens" of God's City of Wisdom here at Hillside. We'll be studying a famous passage tomorrow, one that we all treasure. As we'll be encountering it with the first major section of the Ephesians "tapestry" fresh in our minds, we have the opportunity to grasp it in a deeper way. Here's a challenge. Sometime before tomorrow's service, how about reading Ephesians 1:1-2:10, and then taking 15 minutes to paraphrase it? Then when you come to church tomorrow, you can compare your paraphrase with my paraphrase. I'm sure you'll see "jewels" I missed, and maybe I'll have seen a "gem" here or there that you missed. One way or the other, can’t wait to be with you tomorrow in the presence of Father, Son and Spirit for singing, church life announcements, the City of Wisdom message, and hugs and handshakes in the Light Lounge! Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 10:00 AM both online and in person as Dan Seitz teaches from Ephesians 2:8-10. This week's sermon notes are available at: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZJD3bJZNh1nlWiJjqXlsJIrwWHYzhxxifM7 If you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our website: https://www.hillsidecovenant.org/ We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! A Legacy of Love - Sermon - October 18, 2026
2026/10/18
Hello HillsideJosh Lund here. I am looking forward to preaching again this coming Sunday. Tomorrow we will be continuing our series in Ephesians looking into chapter 2 verses 1-7. In the message we will unpack Paul’s extraordinary claim that while we were dead in our transgressions, Christ has made us alive. We’ll be looking into fun stories like my brief martial arts background, as well as the beautiful parallel of this passage in Ephesians and Luke chapter 15. As I was preparing this sermon, the Lord placed some lyrics on my heart and I wrote a song that I am excited to share with you as part of the message. Join us this Sunday at 10:00 AM for worship, connection, and a message from God’s Word. See you there!Josh Lund Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 10:00 AM both online and in person as Josh Lund teaches from Ephesians 2:1-7. The Fullness of Christ - Sermon - October 11, 2026
2026/10/12
Dear Hillside family, What does it mean for us to be Christ’s presence in the world? This Sunday, we’ll continue our study of Ephesians and consider Paul’s description of the church as “the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” These words carry an extraordinary invitation for each of us. We’ll explore how our creativity, our hope in Jesus, and our care for our neighbors can make Christ’s presence visible in everyday life. Along the way, I’ll share how a school book report, a promise of boba, and a stranger’s stalled car brought that calling into focus for our family. I hope you’ll join us for worship as we consider the possibilities God places before us—in our homes, our work, and our neighborhoods. I look forward to seeing you Sunday. Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 10:00 AM both online and in person as Kian Ameli teaches from Ephesians 1:15–23. A Map of the World: Part 2 - Sermon - October 4, 2026
2026/10/04
Dear Hillside: I love maps, as well as books, movies, and personal stories about maps. Lost maps, found maps, torn maps, buried maps, burned maps, you name it. Last Sunday we learned that Ephesians 1:3-10 can be imagined as a map. Tomorrow as we turn to vv. 11-14, we complete Paul’s “map of the world.” If you get a free fifteen minutes today, consider reading the whole of Ephesians 1:3-14 and try to figure out how tomorrow’s verses (vv. 11-14) complete the “map” of last Sunday’s verses (vv. 3-10). If you want, try writing the final clause of this “SparkNotes” version of vv. 3-14: “Praise God for this! Even before placing the first stone of creation, as an outflow of his fundamentally loving character and to display his glory, God decided he would have an earthly, multi-ethnic family, one to complement his heavenly family, who, being united by commitment to his beloved Son, King Jesus, would call him “Dad,” enjoy his freedom, and live together to advance his grand plan of bringing heaven to earth, through the [vv. 11-14]…” Can’t wait to be with you tomorrow in the presence of Father, Son and Spirit for singing, church life announcements, a message, Communion, and conversation in the Light Lounge. A Map of the World: Part 1 - Sermon - September 27, 2026
2026/09/27
Dear Hillside: Tomorrow we arrive at week three of City of Wisdom, our fall series from Ephesians. Ephesians is a remarkable piece of inspired literature. One famous scholar called it “the crown of Paul’s writings.” Another called it “the queen of the epistles.” The former president of Princeton Seminary said that to Ephesians he owed his very life.  He went on to say: “[In Ephesians] I saw a new world. Everything was new, I had a new outlook. New experiences. New attitudes to other people. I loved God. Jesus Christ became the center of everything. I had been quickened. I was really alive.” Who knows what God’s Spirit will do among us tomorrow, the family of God, the citizens of his wise city, when we lean in together to study chapter 1, verses 3-10? Consider inviting a friend to join you for the service. Can’t wait to see you!
