He is best known for founding RebellComedy many years ago, which has now become the biggest comedic act in all of Germany. After going to one of the RebellComedy shows in Bonn myself, I knew I had to get him for the Podcast. I had never before felt so many feelings watching a German Stand up before. Not only was the show relatable for so many Germans with a migrant background, Usus truly has trailblazed a path of new comedy in Germany period. But it wasn't always easy. We discussed the harsh beginnings, when no one wanted to give Usus and his partner an opportunity to get on the Open Mic stage, because they didn't have 'the german' look. Usus also shared many other struggles and lessons learned early on, that I know will be helpful for other aspriring Comedians. We discussed his new book 'Brenn Schule, Brenn!', which talks about German School systems and the consequences of dividing children into different 'intelligence' brackets in said system. I've never read a book like this one, the protagonist being a so called foreigner dealing with racism and other identity issues growing up in Germany, written in an authentic tone, in a language that is reflective of real life. Last year, I got a chance to interview Bruno, a former professional Basketball player based out of Switzerland, while the borders were still closed. We have known each other for years and Bruno shared his journey from playing sports in school to transitioning to a professional athlete career. The obstacles he endured not only physically, but everything in between from cultural barries and lessons to rediscovering who he was and what he truly wanted. I met Valley in a Brooklyn studio set of an editorial shoot I was styling and we instantly connected. She has such a pure presence, you can't not notice her. Originally, this was a 2.5 hour long conversation with NYC based Artist Kamau. We met inside the Strand Bookstore and recorded this interview under not so ideal conditions (Queue the AC). Kamau not only talked about his early life and how he got into music, but also shared valuable tips for up and coming artists and any person wanting to advance themselves/ their skills. It was just the first week of Lockdown last March, and though this Interview was supposed to be in person, it ended up being virtual. In this Episode, I spoke with Chicago raised, NY based Actor, Writer, Painter Anthony Venturini. A year ago, June 2020, I reconnected with my friend Actor, Writer, Producer and Model Thomas Ramseur-King via Zoom to converse about the climate at the time and discuss lessons in lockdown. We dove deep into why we have to heal as Individuals first before we can strive and expect to heal as a people and country. Thomas has written, acted and produced several films and is always a great resource for me when I am looking to gain other perspectives. I was fortunate I got to catch Chrissy while she was still in Cologne before heading back to Berlin and get to know more about her background and journey from Classical Dance to Voguing. Coming from an Eastern European Home, a Stoic and a more reserved mentality may not seem to be the foundation for someone to get into the Ballroom Scene. We all know the amazingly talented high achievers, dancers and athletes coming from Eastern European Countries. For Chrissy, also known as Crystal Saint Laurent from the House of Saint Laurent in Berlin, life took a different turn and she fell in love with an art form within a space not necessarily created for her, or where she came from.
