In "Ouroboros", we got to see into Andre's psyche as the episode presented a dreamworld version of Snowpiercer. A "Dreampiercer", if you will. Every mile they pass by the frozen world outside their windows, they roll by vast graveyards filled with what remains of the world before they got on the train. Once aboard, regardless of their status as ticketed or not, they were given a chance to outrun death thanks to Mr. Wilford's Engine Eternal. But outrunning death doesn't mean that it's not right there at their heels, snatching at them and picking off those that lag behind. In "Born to Bleed", Pike and Layton tempt their tenuous relationships with each other and in turn with death itself. Using a dispute resolution tradition from their time in the tail, the former revolutionaries have to either talk through their differences - or be willing to kill for them. Very much a no-risk / no-reward kind of guy, using an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) device -intentionally- against the world's last piece of high technology would certainly have taken balls. Snowpiercer 208 The Eternal Engineer. Image by TNT. Copyright 2021. It only made sense, right? We'd been wondering all along what Icy Bob's nefarious mission would be and this week we got our answer. Sabotage? Sure, but only as a stepping stone to Mr. Wilford's true aims. He needed the people of Snowpiercer to need him. With the train on the verge of a massive shutdown (which he himself caused but no one in Andre Layton's leadership care seems able to prove), Mr. Wilford swept in this week. With a genius we'd only assumed so far, he proved why he is the "Eternal Engineer". But does THIS end of Andre's time as leader of the train make sense? Cat, Inez, and I discuss this episode's plot and find a few ways things could have turned around for Andre, had he acted differently.
