Today, we’re tackling a pressing issue that affects millions across America—the mental health crisis. Recent statistics tell us that over 23% of adults in the U.S.—that's around 59 million people—are experiencing some form of mental illness each year. And guess what? The crisis is hitting our young adults the hardest, with nearly 36% of those aged 18 to 25 reporting mental health struggles. In recent years, an unsettling trend has emerged across the United States—over 1 million students are now experiencing homelessness. This number has surged since 2005, raising urgent questions about how this crisis affects our children and the quality of education they receive. Imagine being a child, eager to learn, but your home life is in chaos. This isn’t just a statistic; it’s a harsh reality for about 1.37 million students in the 2022-23 school year alone. That’s a staggering 25% increase in just two years! Let’s talk about where these students are coming from. In California, for instance, nearly 20,000 additional students were reported homeless during the latest school year. And take New York City, which has reached a record high—over 154,000 students, or nearly one in seven, are living without stable housing.
