An Introduction to Season of Creation 2026
2026/09/15
Religious leaders from around the globe are extending an invitation to discover the Season of Creation 2026: Living Water, calling communities worldwide to embark on a shared journey of faith and action. The Season runs from The Feast of Creation 1st September to The Feast of St Francis of Assisi on October 4th. The Feast of Creation and the extended season is supported by a huge movement of various denominations and free churches alike.
Brother Sun, Sister Moon: Learning to See Creation Again
2026/09/15
There's an old idea, one that St. Francis of Assisi made famous in his Canticle of the Sun, that the sun and moon aren't just distant objects lighting our days and nights — they're kin. Brother Sun. Sister Moon. Family, in a sense, part of the same created order we belong to. It's a small shift in language, but it changes something. When the sun is just "the sun," it's background noise — something we barely register on our way to the car. When it's Brother Sun, it becomes a presence. Something worth noticing. Something worth thanking God for. Ask the Animals Job 12:7 puts it simply: ask the animals, and they will teach you. It's a strange invitation on the surface — what could a bird or a beast possibly have to teach a person? But Scripture keeps returning to this idea that creation itself is a kind of instructor, quietly demonstrating things about dependence, trust, and design that we're often too busy to notice on our own. That raises a few honest questions worth sitting with: What have I decided isn't worth my attention? What's shaping me without my even realizing it? What ordinary beauty have I stopped seeing because I've seen it so many times before? What might change if I approached the created world as someone still learning from it, rather than someone simply in charge of it? Sanctifying the Everyday None of this requires a mountaintop or a dramatic sunset. It might just mean pausing on a walk, looking up at the moon on an ordinary Tuesday, or noticing the sun on your face for three seconds longer than usual. Gratitude for creation doesn't ask for grand gestures — it asks for attention. Maybe that's the whole invitation: to stop treating the world as scenery, and start treating it as a gift. Reflection inspired by themes of wonder, gratitude, and creation — prompted by Stillmere Contemplative Reflections Cards, Vol. 4: "Brother Sun, Sister Moon."
On Not Needing a Reason
2026/09/15
A wildflower doesn't apply for permission to bloom. It doesn't calculate whether the ground is fertile enough to be worth the effort, or whether anyone's walking by to see it. It just grows — toward light, toward water, toward whatever small mercy the season offers — and that's the whole of its work. Jesus points to this in Matthew 6:28, and it's a strange thing to hold up as instruction. Not a parable with a moral to extract, not a lesson to file away — just an invitation to actually look at something that exists without justifying itself. Most days don't leave much room for that kind of looking. There's a logic to how attention gets spent: on what needs doing, what needs answering, what needs fixing. It's not a wrong way to move through a day. But it does tend to flatten the world into a checklist, and things that can't be checked off — a colour, a shape, a bit of unplanned beauty — get filed under "later" and quietly forgotten. Here's what's worth turning over, maybe on a walk or in a quiet moment before the day picks up speed: Is there anything that delights you that serves no purpose at all? What's grown too familiar to actually see anymore? If perceived usefulness stopped being the filter, what would stand out? What might be delighting God right now, unnoticed? That last one is the one that stays with me. It suggests delight isn't a mood we're chasing — it's something already happening, on God's part, toward things we've stopped registering. The wildflower isn't waiting to be admired before it counts. It's already loved into existing at all. Maybe the practice, then, isn't about finding something spectacular to marvel at. It's letting one small, unremarkable thing be enough — not because it earns the attention, but because it doesn't have to. Reflection inspired by themes of delight, attention, and grace — prompted by Stillmere Contemplative Reflections Cards, Vol. 4: "Brother Sun, Sister Moon."
A Heart for Peace
2026/09/15
This Sunday, September 20, marks Peace Sunday — observed each year on the Sunday closest to the United Nations International Day of Peace. Some churches across the world will pause to reflect on what it means to follow the Prince of Peace in a world that so often speaks a different language: one of division, suspicion, and conflict. The theme this year is simple but searching: a heart for peace. It's worth sitting with the question honestly. What makes or breaks your heart for peace? Is it the news cycle? A strained relationship? Weariness with how loud and combative the world has become?  Peace isn't just the absence of conflict out there — it starts as a condition of the heart in here. Scripture doesn't ask us to manufacture peace on our own strength. Jesus called himself the Prince of Peace, and He said,  "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God" (Matthew 5:9).  Peacemaking is active — it's a heart that has been shaped by God's love, justice, and nonviolence, and then turned outward toward a hurting world. So this week, ask: Where is God's heart for peace trying to reshape mine? Who in my community reflects that heart for peace — and have I told them? Where is one place, this week, I can choose peace instead of division? Peace Sunday isn't just a service on the calendar. It's an invitation to let our hearts be retrained — to write a different story than the one the world keeps telling.

Be Still Episode 4
2026/08/17
Be Still — Episode 4 [COLD OPEN] The heavens declare the glory of God. The expanse shows his handiwork. Day after day they pour out speech, and night after night they display knowledge. (Psalm 19:1–2) [THE NARRATIVE] Last time, the first lie entered the world, and with it, shame and hiding. But even then, the LORD clothed his children and promised a rescue still to come. This week, we watch the darkness grow. Adam knew Eve his wife. She conceived, and gave birth to Cain. Again she gave birth, to Cain's brother Abel. Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. In the process of time, Cain brought an offering to the LORD from the fruit of the ground. Abel also brought some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD respected Abel and his offering, but he didn't respect Cain and his offering. Cain was very angry, and the expression on his face fell. Cain said to Abel, his brother, "Let's go into the field." While they were in the field, Cain rose up against Abel, his brother, and killed him. The LORD said to Cain, "Where is Abel, your brother?" He said, "I don't know. Am I my brother's keeper?" The LORD said, "What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries to me from the ground. Now you are cursed… A fugitive and a wanderer you shall be in the earth." Cain said to the LORD, "My punishment is greater than I can bear… I will be hidden from your face… whoever finds me will kill me." The LORD said to him, "Therefore whoever slays Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold." The LORD appointed a sign for Cain, so that anyone finding him would not strike him. (Genesis 4:1–15, abridged) Even in judgement, the LORD did not abandon him. Years passed, and the wickedness in the world grew. The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. The LORD said, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the surface of the ground." But Noah found favour in the eyes of the LORD. (Genesis 6:5–8, abridged) The LORD said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before me… Make a ship of gopher wood… I will bring the flood of waters on the earth… But I will establish my covenant with you. You shall come into the ship — you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives with you." (Genesis 6:13–18, abridged) Noah did everything that the LORD commanded him. The flood came. Every living thing was destroyed which was on the surface of the ground. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ship. But God remembered Noah. (Genesis 7:5, 21–23; 8:1, abridged) [SILENCE] God said, "This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I set my rainbow in the cloud, and it will be a sign of a covenant between me and the earth. When I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow will be seen in the cloud, I will remember my covenant… the waters will no more become a flood to destroy all flesh." (Genesis 9:12–15, abridged) [BE STILL] (fixed every episode) He makes wars cease to the end of the earth. "Be still, and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:9–10) [SILENCE] [THE INVITATION TO THE TABLE] (fixed every episode) When he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "Take, eat. This is my body, which is broken for you. Do this in memory of me." In the same way he also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink, in memory of me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. (1 Corinthians 11:24–26) [CLOSING BLESSING] (fixed every episode) The LORD bless you, and keep you. The LORD make his face to shine on you, and be gracious to you. The LORD lift up his face towards you, and give you peace. (Numbers 6:24–26)
Be Still Episode 3
2026/08/08
Be Still — Episode 3 [COLD OPEN] The heavens declare the glory of God. The expanse shows his handiwork. Day after day they pour out speech, and night after night they display knowledge. (Psalm 19:1–2) [THE NARRATIVE] Last time, God finished his work, and it was very good, and he rested. We continue the story now — but this week, the story turns. Now the serpent was more subtle than any animal of the field which the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Has God really said, 'You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?'" The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees of the garden, but not the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden. God has said, 'You shall not eat of it. You shall not touch it, lest you die.'" The serpent said to the woman, "You won't surely die, for God knows that in the day you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took some of its fruit, and ate; and she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate it, too. Both of their eyes were opened, and they knew that they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. They heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. The LORD God called to the man, and said to him, "Where are you?" The man said, "I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself." (Genesis 3:1–10, abridged) But even here — even now — there was still love. The LORD God said to the serpent, "I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel." (Genesis 3:15) The LORD God made coats of skins for Adam and for his wife, and clothed them. (Genesis 3:21) [SILENCE] [BE STILL] (fixed every episode) He makes wars cease to the end of the earth. "Be still, and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:9–10) [SILENCE] [THE INVITATION TO THE TABLE] (fixed every episode) When he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "Take, eat. Be Still — Episode 2 [COLD OPEN] The heavens declare the glory of God. The expanse shows his handiwork. Day after day they pour out speech, and night after night they display knowledge. (Psalm 19:1–2) [THE NARRATIVE] Last time, we began at the very start: light, called out of darkness, on the first day. We continue where we left off. God said, "Let there be an expanse in the middle of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters." … There was evening and there was morning, a second day. God said, "Let the waters under the sky be gathered together to one place, and let the dry land appear," and it was so… God saw that it was good. God said, "Let there be lights in the sky to divide the day from the night… and let them be for lights in the sky's expanse to give light on the earth," and it was so… God saw that it was good. God said, "Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of sky"… God saw that it was good. God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion… over all the earth." God created man in his own image. In the image of God he created him; male and female he created them… God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. The heavens and the earth, and all their vast array were finished. On the seventh day God finished his work which he had done, and he rested… God blessed the seventh day, and made it holy, because he rested in it from all his work. (Genesis 1:6–2:3, abridged) [SILENCE] [BE STILL] (fixed every episode) He makes wars cease to the end of the earth. "Be still, and know that I am God." Day after day they pour out speech, and night after night they display knowledge. (Psalm 19:1–2) [THE NARRATIVE] We begin where the story itself begins. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty. Darkness was on the surface of the deep and God's Spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters. God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw the light, and saw that it was good. God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." There was evening and there was morning, the first day.
