Description

All Indians Matter is a digital home for conversations with and about India on the issues that truly matter. For most of our post-Independence years, this was done by the news media. However, in recent times, the media have been found wanting. As a result, the issues that should be highlighted are sidelined and the voices that should find a megaphone are muffled. This podcast is an effort to engage with everyone who cares about India, its Constitution, its liberal and secular values. All Indians Matter is the creation of Ashraf Engineer, who was a senior journalist with some of India’s leading newspapers for 17 years. His media work included a stint in 2011 in Afghanistan, where he trained and mentored journalists. He subsequently quit the news media and is now part of the brand communication industry. Why the uptick in CEO exits should concern you
2025/09/26
There’s a strong uptick in the number of CEO departures in recent times – both in India and abroad. Blame it on geopolitical turbulence, market volatility, massive technological and regulatory changes, greater board scrutiny, and a mismatch between talent and company expectations. When it comes to large or listed firms, CEO resignations in large numbers can impact your investments through share price volatility. It can also mean job insecurity or shifts in business strategy that hurts hirings, supply chains and private investment. Please listen to the latest episode of All Indians Matter. 2025/09/19

Gender credit gap holding India, societal evolution back
2025/09/12
Study after study shows that women face serious challenges in accessing credit. The wide gender credit gap is holding back our progress — even though women are increasingly taking up entrepreneurship. Financial inclusion is vital for individual empowerment, and it fosters community and GDP growth. A 2024 World Bank report said countries with greater female financial inclusion had more growth, less income inequality and higher resilience against economic shocks. So, bridging the gender credit gap is not just about fairness. It’s about national interest. Please listen to the latest episode of All Indians Matter. Learn more about your ad choices. How Trump’s tariffs are wrecking the US’ economy
2025/09/05
Donald Trump’s unshakeable commitment to tariffs means that it no longer matters how much evidence there is against their effectiveness. He will use them because he believes in them. Never mind that they will shrink the US’ own competitiveness, are inflationary for Americans and will make many jobs disappear. Protectionism may be working politically, but at some stage it will come up against geopolitical and economic reality. Please listen to the latest episode of All Indians Matter. For people with disability in India, every day is a parkour course
2025/08/19
India has a serious lack of spaces accessible to the disabled. For that to change, the issue must be viewed not just as a legal one but as a social responsibility. Also, accessibility must go beyond compliance with the law to encompass qualitative aspects such as functionality and comfort. Jacob Kurian, trustee and honorary secretary of the Association of People with Disability, speaks to All Indians Matter.   Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Why we should not take democracy for granted - 3
2025/08/15
In the final part of the series on the cloud over India’s democracy, All Indians Matter looks at how India’s backslide affects our international relationships. What we are determines how other countries work with us. The West sees India as a counter-balance to China but the erosion of its democratic credentials would alter that view and maybe even prompt a review of the relationship. Why we should not take democracy for granted - 1
2025/08/01
The world over, democracy seems to be in trouble. It is seen to be failing people and trust in it is plummeting. Authoritarians are riding a wave of support, arguing that the old ways of governance don’t work, sideline too many and only they can provide the firm, central control that’s needed. It may mean the loss of freedoms and the erosion of institutions but so be it, they say. All Indians Matter launches a three-part series that examines how we got here and what we can do now to preserve our democracy. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
