"Change feels expensive until you realize how much staying the same is costing you." — James Barbour In this powerful end-of-year reflection, we dive into the hidden cost of staying the same—the quiet but heavy price we pay when we delay, avoid, or talk ourselves out of the change we know we need. As we close out this year, this episode invites you to confront the excuses, comfort zones, and self-imposed limits that keep your goals, dreams, and potential on pause. Through honest examples and a set of introspective questions, we explore how inaction affects our peace, purpose, and future—and why choosing growth today matters more than waiting for the "perfect" moment.

Living Once Twice Ep 91 - Do 12 Step Recovery Programs Work?
2025/10/01
Whether your struggle is alcohol, drugs, lust, overeating or some other addictive or compulsive behavior, in addition to therapy you may find a 12 Step program helpful in your recovery journey. While 12 Steps programs may not be a useful tool for everyone, in this episode I'll explain how the 12 step model works from my own personal experience. I'll also discuss some of the concerns and misconceptions of the program regarding the terminology used (such as God & Higher Power) and other concepts that tend to cause roadblocks for so many. * this episode does contain explicit content so listener discretion is advised.* Show Links https://saa-recovery.org/  12 Step Meetings  SAA Podcast  STUDY: Do 12 Step Programs Work For Addiction Recovery? Living Once Twice Ep 90 - The Secret Struggle Men Don't Discuss
2025/09/24
Whether it's shame, social stigma, or misunderstanding, the topic of addiction to lust or pornography, masturbation, and orgasm "PMO" is something many people do not feel comfortable discussing, especially men. Unfortunately for some it's a problematic area that's causing destruction in their lives and distress in their relationships. In this episode I'll discuss my struggles with lust & PMO. I'll also explain what lust addiction is (and isn't) and share how I found both therapy & a 12 step program beneficial in my healing journey.  Lust & PMO can often serve as a way to numb unpleasant emotions, avoid reality, and provide validation. However, this form of escapism is temporary and can become a harmful coping mechanism that prevents you from addressing the underlying issues like unprocessed trauma, low self-worth, anxiety, and loneliness.  If you struggle with this type of compulsive behavior and are seeking a path to recovery there are free resources and support available. * this episode does contain explicit content so listener discretion is advised.* Show Links https://saa-recovery.org/  12 Step Meetings (In-person & zoom) SAA Podcast
