Episode 7 Scorched Earth West Virginia suffered the environmental impact of war long before the Great War. All in the name of feeding the war machine with demands of steel, minerals nuclear material and a place to store the resulting waste. The fallout from nuclear detonations was the cherry on top of it all. We join Gilda Sullivan as she’s arrived in the Toxic Valley, as if the name doesn’t tell you enough, it’s a wasteland within a wasteland. In the meantime, the Iron Savages are making a fast march south to Charleston with Joel still as their useful captive. Raiders were once the scourge of West Virginia after the Great War until the Scorched plague was unleashed. The Iron Savages aren’t so different except that by Dirk Embry’s leadership they’ve survived much that saw many formative gangs fall by the wayside in Pennsylvania. Opportunities are everywhere if you look and Dirk saw a chance in the empty West Virginia. An entire state, ripe for the taking now that the Scorched were diminished. It was perfect. They aren’t usually dealers in human lives, not like some of the slave traders back where they came from. But the last raid brought them Responder Joel MacKenzie. Far From Heaven: A Fallout 76 Story Episode 3 The Mountains Sleep No More Many perished due to the Scorched plague, that we know all too well, and few fled from it. But even fewer stuck it out in West Virginia and made it through, not counting the Seventy-Sixers safe in the comfort of their vault. Would it surprise you to learn that one was Free States? Gilda Sullivan, an accomplished hunter, steadfast friend to the Responders, survived in West Virginia when the Scorched wiped it clean thanks to the Sullivan family bunker and the survival skills she’d honed over the years. Despite the previous night, nobody was left behind and our three survivors have been making the journey towards West Virginia with the rest of the caravan. Mary has made good on the idea to record more about the journey although not many have been so keen to join in. For the intrepid vault dwellers of Vault 76, the wasteland they emerged to was far from what they had expected to find. To their surprise, people had been living and thriving in West Virginia for years but all that was left from those days were the many holotapes, terminal logs and scribbled journals. The voices of the dead from the Scorched plague.  But what of survivors?   It’s the year 2103. The Scorched are in retreat after the actions of some of those Seventy-Sixers and people are wising up to the opportunities that the empty state has to offer. A safer place for people from the places that suffered much more from the ravages of nuclear war. The first foundations are being laid, flags raised, claims made upon the land. Settlers, Raiders, people of all kinds are making the journey.   One caravan from a small town in Pennsylvania is prepared to leave at first light. Among them, survivors who were once Responders all with their own reasons, hopes and desires for making the journey to their home. But after what West Virginia has been through it is far from the almost heaven that is sung about in that song. Cast.
