Be Open To Receive & To Give
2022/05/06
This week's episode of Build Your Alpha talks about how we all are told to live a fulfilling life that we have to give to others and bring them up with us. I feel that there is a negative perception around receiving from others though. However, if we allow ourselves to receive, not to take, opportunities when they are presented to us we have the ability to become the best we can be.
Boundaries - Set 'em & Stick to 'em
2022/04/22
This week's episode of Build Your Alpha talks about the importance of not overextending yourself. That by saying yes to everything and not allowing yourself to say no to certain commitments that you're not able to be the best you can be, and therefore cannot give the best of yourself to those people and things that are most important to you. If our "cup is overflowing" then we will get to a point that we cannot give anymore, we cannot give what we don't have.
Find Your Tribe
2022/04/08
This week's episode of Build Your Alpha talks about finding your tribe and how those closest to you can help you become the best version of yourself. It can take one person to change the world, but it takes a community to help that one man. As we go through life our priorities change and that means that at times our tribe will change, people will come and go throughout our lives. It's about keeping those that are the most positive in our lives around and building those relationships.
No Expectations Are Long Run Returns
2022/03/25
This week's episode of Build Your Alpha talks about how expectations for people or situations can lead to disappointment or frustration. However, being able to go into these without expectations of anything in return, and moving away from the "tit for tat" transactional mentality, we have the opportunity to build on the values we find important. We then shift to an intrinsic satisfaction of ourselves for acting based upon the character and values of ourselves, and move away from relying on the extrinsic factors and satisfaction that can lead to the disappointment and frustration. If doing the right thing has a neutral impact on you and a potential positive impact for the situation, or person, then you should always act that way.
Adjust, Tweak, Progress
2022/03/18
This week's episode of Build Your Alpha talks about how we are all always changing as a person, no matter how hard we may want to fight it. So we can either fight the change or change with the change, and adapt to continue to make positive improvements towards the things that matter most to us.
50% > 100%
2022/03/10
This week's episode of Build Your Alpha is focused around consistency. How being consistent with showing up to continue your development and growth is far more important than perfection. Being a perfectionist can "freeze" you and consistency has the power to push us further, even when we may not have the motivation.
Your Best Investment Is Yourself
2022/03/03
This week's episode on Build Your Alpha discusses investing both financially and with our time into becoming who we want to be. There are a variety of ways that we can invest in our own development to continue to improve ourselves and even without a lot, or any, extra cash we can still become better. Russell Wilson, NFL Quarterback, has said he invests at approximately $1MM a year on his body's recovery, so why wouldn't we invest in ourselves as well.
Brick by Brick, Build For Success
2022/02/24
This week's episode of Build Your Alpha talks about how we are the creators of our own success, as much as we may hate to admit it, and we have all that we need in this moment to start building. That there are 3 "pillars" to building towards the life we envision for ourselves - Time, Space, and People. The importance of creating habits to ensure that we can build towards the life that we envision for ourselves.
Stitch Yourself Up, You're Bleeding Everywhere
2022/02/17
This week's episode of Build Your Alpha talks about our past trauma and how we have to allow ourselves - as Rafiki says "the past can hurt, but the way I see it, you can either run from it or you can learn from it". These past negative experiences are like open wounds, if we don't stitch them up then they bleed everywhere. Then we impact our current relationships and experiences because we have not allowed ourselves to accept that we cannot change the things that happened.
Find Your Green Flags
2022/02/10
This week's episode on Build Your Alpha talks about the importance of finding your green flags and red flags in others. Then investing in those people who have more green flags and add to your life, and limiting those who have more red flags. Both green flags and red flags over time for yourself may change, and that's alright. It's important to notice these changes and continue to surround yourself with people who do support, inspire, and motivate you. While limiting, eliminating, removing those who exhaust and limit you, and don't bring you peace. This episode also bring a quote from Matthew McConaughey's book Greenlights because we all have our adventure to find these things.
Your Perception Is The Only One That Matters
2022/01/27
This week's episode of Build Your Alpha references Episode 23: You Matter - Always Remember That, but with a focus around how we over-value others perception of ourselves, and we under-value our own perception of who we truly are. It discusses a point in "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius and how we live in a world where outside validation is so prevalent. However, we need to remember that our own opinion and perception of ourselves is the only one that matters.
It's Not a Dead End - It's a Fork In The Road
2022/01/20
This week's episode talks about making decisions. That each time we make a decision it is a fork in the road, but that the fork in the road never leads to a dead end. Life continues on regardless of the decision we made turns out to be good or bad for us. That each decision is made based on current circumstances and knowledge, and that after each decision we can never go back because we know have more information and our circumstances have changed. We have to continue forward, whether it's continuing away from the prior path and making that next decision as a choice to move farther away, or that next decision is to move closer back to the original path. We can never go back to that same exact path we were on before.
