We are BACK with another brand new series we thought we'd try out. The 316 Series is going to be a project where we speak with local historians from the towns that make up the Greater Wichita and the 316 area. We want to hear the history, tales, and stories about how these cities were founded and what brought them to how they are today.  Our first episode is with the Mayor of Derby and one of its local historians. This tale of two cities was quite the treat to get us started and even the Mayor was learning stories about his own backyard!  If you have a suggestion for a city we should talk to and/or know someone who would talk to us - let us know! We ventured out west again to meet with the team at Tanganyika so that they could talk about their upcoming future plans for the park. There has been some online backlash due to some of these announcements, and so the team wanted an opportunity to explain their side of the situation and get us all very excited for what is coming soon.  Whether you agree with some of the changes or not, it appears that Tanganyika is doing all it can to position itself as a unique experience not just in Kansas but in all of America. This could be a great destination for tourists from all over to come check out. Only in Kansas! You can check them out at: https://twpark.com/ Follow/Like Us! We do realize that we refer to us being in April several times in this episode because, yes, we recorded it back then and we finally got around to editing it. Our editing team took a long sabbatical but they are back and so are we! Did you know that you can credit a lot of our national highway system to a man from Wichita? Well you are about to learn!  Woody Hockaday was THE guy who  really pushed to develop our travel capabilities across this country and can be credited for so many things we take for granted when driving around the country. From maps to road signs, we would not be where we are at if it wasn't for this Wichita man. Check out the episode to find out more and probably share several laughs along the way! Burma-Shave. 1991 brought a devastating tornado to the greater Wichita area. Tornados are no strangers to the midwest and something we deal with often. The history behind this tornado (and others that were similar in size) reminds us all to keep safe when those sirens sound. And did you know those sirens started in Wichita? Follow/Like Us! We had the ultimate privilege of sitting down with Scott Carter, the resident expert on all things Father Emil Kapaun, to not only figure out how to pronounce his name (spoilers we didn't) but also to hear the story of the life of this incredible (almost) Wichitan both before and after his death. Scott makes the remark that Father Kapaun might be the most famous person buried in Wichita and having heard his story, you will probably agree. The man was not only a great Wichitan but an even better human who put his life on the lines constantly to serve others.  https://frkapaun.org/ Follow/Like Us!
