My heart is broken because of what is happening in Palestine and I'm praying everyday that things get better InshaAllah. In this episode, Lina and I reflect on the year 2023 but in a very light-hearted way. The last few months have been difficult to process and wanted to record something funny and light. My Arabic is a bit rusty so please be patient with me, my mistakes and my essays! I was so nervous recording this, but I'm so happy I did and I can continue to share my love of Arabic with you all. Remember, mistakes are all part of the journey. In this episode, Lina and I reflect on the good moments in 2022, if there's anything we wish we did, what we're grateful for, how we took care of ourselves and how we would describe this year in 3-5 words.  I wish you all a wonderful festive period and a very Happy New Year! I always feel so grateful I have a platform to share my love for the Arabic language. I hope it has encouraged you and continues to encourage you to speak Arabic without the fear of making mistakes. I hope you're all doing well :) In this episode, I will talk about gratitude and how we can practice it daily to live happier lives :) بالعربي ، في صفتين للامتنان - ممنون و ممتن .   In Arabic, there are two adjectives for gratitude - ممنون و ممتن. كنت فكر في كتير أشياء لانه هاي السنة خلصت تقريباً و بعد تلات اسابيع رح تبلش السنة الجديدة ان شاء الله . هاي السنة كانت كتير صعبة لكل العالم عشان لسة عايشين في الوباء و الوضع معقد .   I was thinking about a lot of things as this year is almost over and after three weeks, it will be a new year, InshaAllah. This year has been very difficult for the whole world because of the pandemic and the situation is complicated.  لما بفكر في كل الأشياء الي صارت هاي السنة، الطبيعة البشرية إنو نركز اكثر على اللحظات السلبية عشان البقاء .. يعني إذا لاقينا حالنا بوضع خطير ، لازم نركز أكثر على الإشي الخطير او السلبي فا رح نعمل الإشي الي بيخلينا نحمي لحالنا    When I think about everything that has happened this year, it is in our human nature to focus more on the negative moments. We do this because of survival. For example, if we find ourselves in a dangerous situation, we need to focus more on the danger or the negative thing so we know how to handle it and protect ourselves.  بس  إذا تعاملنا مع الوباء بهاي الطريقة.. يعني نركز على الأشياء السلبية في الاخبار او المعلومات اللي حولينا … هاد الإشي ما رح يساعدنا في هذا الوقت . However, if we handle the pandemic in this way and focus on the negative things in the news or information around us, it won’t help us in this time.  مهم انه  نركز على الأشياء الإيجابية بس كيف ؟…  وحدة من الطرق هي ممارسة الامتنان It’s important that we focus on the positive things, but how? One way is by practicing gratitude. اول شي ، شو يعني امتنان ؟ Firstly, what is gratitude? لما نقدر شو عندنا في حياتنا … لما نركز و نتذكر قديش عندنا نعمة و بركات في حياتنا ، مثلا صحتنا، بيتنا ، عيلتنا، عقلنا، إنو نصحى من النوم، المي النظيفة , إنو نتنفس هواء نقي  , اصحابنا ، الأكل ، الفرصة إنو نتعلم اللغة العربية أو  قدرتنا  على التعلم … وهاي القائمة طويلة .  When we appreciate what we have in our lives. - when we focus and remember how many blessings we have in our lives, for example, our health, our house, our family, our mind, that we wake up from sleep, fresh water, that we breathe fresh air, our friends, food, the chance to learn Arabic or our ability to learn. The list so long! كيف بنمارس الامتنان ؟ How do we practice gratitude? واحدة من  الطرق عشان نمارس الامتنان: لما نصحى الصبح ، اول شي,  لازم نقول تلات اشياء الي إحنا ممنونين إلها .  One of the ways to practice gratitude is when we wake up in the morning, the first we should say is 3 things we are grateful for.   و كمان ,نخلي معنا دفتر الامتنان و نكتب كل يوم الأشياء الي بنحس حالنا ممنونين إلها… مثلا  You can also keep a gratitude journal and everyday write things which you are grateful for. For example: قلبي  ممنونة  لكل شي مرّ بطريقي و ترك عندي شعور بالسعادة   My heart is grateful for everything which passes my way and leaves with feelings of happiness انا كتير ممنونة  عشان عندي فرصة أشارك معكم حبي للغة العربية  I am very grateful because I have the opportunity to share with you all my love for the Arabic language إذا بنمارس الامتنان كل يوم ، رح يساعدنا  مع الوباء  -  كتير مهم لصحتنا النفسية و رح نحس حالنا احسن بشكل عام  If we practice gratitude everyday, it will help us with the pandemic. It's very important for our mental health and we will feel better about ourselves generally  اليوم ، لشو ممنون ؟  What are you grateful for today?
