The Hidden Message of Surah Al-Baqarah Nobody Talks About | Hisham Abu Yusuf
2026/09/30
Surah Al-Baqarah has hundreds of subjects in it, so why did the Prophet ﷺ name it after a cow? Ustadh Hisham Abu Yusuf walks Sh. Ammar AlShukry through the whole surah as one structure: the first half is the handover from a nation that failed, the switch of the Qibla in the middle is the transfer of leadership, and the second half is the blueprint for the new ummah. There are no rules until the Qibla changes. Then they come one after the other.Along the way: why the 7 long surahs replace the Torah and Baqarah works as their contents page, why Baqarah and Ali Imran come as a pair, the 2 cow stories and what the golden calf reveals about absorbing the culture around you, the 6 verses aimed at religious leaders who monetised the deen, the "inverted abudiyah" of a people who believed Allah served them, and why Ibrahim's submission is the direct contrast to the cow mindset. The second half covers the verse of righteousness and how its order mirrors the rest of the surah in reverse, Talut, Dawud and the river as the test of permissible distractions, why Ayatul Kursi sits right after the command to spend, and why the longest verse in the Quran is not really about loans.Everyone has a cow. Why Don’t Muslims Cry for Jesus? | Once Upon a Time in Jerusalem | AlMaghrib Podcast
2026/08/29
What happens when Islamic scholarship, storytelling and art come together? On the road with Once Upon a Time in Jerusalem, the team sits down to discuss the journey behind the show, from the success of Once Upon a Time in Mecca to creating an entirely new production centered around the stories of Maryam and Isa ﷺ.They explore the role of art in Islamic tradition, the responsibility that comes with telling the stories of the Prophets, and the challenge of creating something that can move Muslims while also introducing non-Muslims to the Islamic understanding of Jesus. The team also shares the remarkable story of a Christian woman who attended the show after discovering it through an online ad and was moved to tears by hearing the story of Jesus told through an Islamic lens. This is a conversation about knowledge, art, da'wah and what may be the beginning of an entirely new genre of Islamic storytelling.Once Upon a Time in JerusalemFind upcoming shows and learn more at almaghrib.org/jerusalemChapters00:00 “I’ve Never Heard Jesus Like This”00:53 Once Upon a Time in Jerusalem01:43 How Once Upon a Time in Mecca Began10:00 Building the Team & Finding Their Sound18:00 Turning Islamic History Into Art20:00 Does Art Have a Place in Islam?25:00 From Entertainment to Purpose35:17 Creating Once Upon a Time in Jerusalem37:05 How a Theatre Production Is Actually Built41:50 Taking the Story of Isa ﷺ to Churches42:15 The Christian Woman Who Was Moved to Tears44:33 Why Don’t Muslims Cry for Isa ﷺ?45:13 Why Maryam Is Central to the Story45:40 The Story Behind “Dedicate”49:33 Why Great Art Takes Time51:30 Reimagining Maryam Under the Palm Tree52:53 Bringing Qur’an Into the Show54:35 Creating an Experience Beyond the Masjid57:35 Did They Just Create a New Genre?58:02 Islam, Muslims & the Arts1:00:52 Creating a New Generation of Muslim Artists1:02:25 How Muslim Art Has Changed1:04:20 Where Jerusalem Goes NextSUBSCRIBEhttps://www.youtube.com/@AlMaghribInstituteTV?sub_confirmation=1FOLLOW ALMAGHRIB INSTITUTEInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/almaghribworld/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/almaghribworldWebsite: https://www.almaghrib.org/
What Does Islam Say About Climate Change? | AlMaghrib Podcast
2026/08/23
Global warming doesn't just mean warmer days. Dr Zaid Abidwahid is a glaciologist with a PhD in environmental studies, a field where you rarely find Muslim voices, and what he has seen on the ice is not what most people think is happening. In this episode we get into why the term "carbon footprint" was invented and who invented it, why blaming the individual was always the point, what AI data centres are quietly doing to our drinking water, and why Pakistan holds more ice than almost anywhere on earth outside the Arctic. We also ask the question nobody in the community seems to be asking: why have you never heard a khutbah about any of this? This is not a doom episode. It ends where it should, with what Islam already told us about israf, about amanah, and about the man who plants a sapling even as the world ends.#ClimateChange #Islam #AlMaghribSUBSCRIBEhttps://www.youtube.com/@AlMaghribInstituteTV?sub_confirmation=1FOLLOW ALMAGHRIB INSTITUTEInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/almaghribworld/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/almaghribworldWebsite: https://www.almaghrib.org/
What Your Dreams Actually Mean In Islam | AlMaghrib Podcast
2026/08/19
In this episode Shaykh Ammar AlShukry sits down with Imam Ammar Shahin to talk about dreams, what they mean, and what happens when someone interprets one wrongly. Imam Ammar spent around ten years interpreting dreams for people before he walked away from it entirely, and in this conversation he explains exactly why.We get into the three categories the Prophet ﷺ divided dreams into, how to tell a true dream from a nightmare from your own nafs talking back to you, why a good dream is one part of forty six parts of prophethood, and how symbolism actually works so that the same image can mean two completely different things for two different people. Imam Ammar also takes apart the dream dictionaries sold under Ibn Sirin's name, most of which he never wrote, and explains why looking your dream up in a book is the fastest way to be misled. Then there are the stories. A man whose father appeared to him locked outside a garden, and the debt that was keeping him there. Ibn Sirin interpreting the falling moon and seven stars as his own death eight days before it happened. His wife interpreting a stranger's dream in his absence and what it cost that man. And the dream Imam Ammar interpreted for someone who did not believe he could do it, which ended in a way he has never stopped carrying. If you have ever woken up shaken by something and wondered whether it meant anything, this episode is for you.If this benefited you, subscribe to the channel and turn on notifications. Born in Egypt, he memorized the Quran as a child and went on to earn degrees from Al-Azhar University and the Islamic University of Madinah, with ijazaat in several Islamic sciences. Books alone did not get him to dream interpretation, so he travelled to Egypt to study under a scholar who specialised in it, then to Saudi Arabia to study under another.Almost nobody teaches this subject properly, and the people who do teach it publicly are usually selling something. This is a scholar who learned it from teachers, practised it for a decade, and then asked Allah to take it away from him. How To Protect Yourself From The Evil Eye | AlMaghrib Podcast
2026/08/16
In this episode Shaykh Ammar Shahin sits down with Shaykh Ammar Alshukry to talk about the evil eye, hasad, and ruqya, and what he has seen in years of working with people who came to him after the hospitals had nothing left to offer. He shares cases he has treated, the mistakes people make when they go looking for help, and the harm caused by so-called healers who are anything but.We get into why the evil eye is not superstition but something the Prophet ﷺ warned us about directly, how envy works, what the real signs look like, why so much of this now travels through social media, and the protection every Muslim should be making a habit. Shaykh Ammar also speaks openly about what the evil eye has cost him personally, including things he has never shared publicly before. This is a heavy conversation and an honest one. If you have ever wondered whether something in your life had a cause you could not see, this episode is for you.If this benefited you, subscribe to the channel and turn on notifications. He explains how magic actually works, how to tell jinn possession apart from mental illness, and why most people should fear envy and the evil eye far more than black magic. He walks through real cases from two decades of work: the amulet meant to bind a couple that caused miscarriages instead, the soap talisman that brought death into a family, the truck driver who could not sleep in his own home, and the non-Muslim who was healed by the Quran and later moved to Medina. Getting Inside the Mind of Shaytan | Sh. Saad Tasleem | Al Maghrib Podcast
2026/07/18
What if you could study Shaytan the way a therapist studies a patient, by analyzing his own words in the Quran? Sh. Saad Tasleem joins Sh. Ammar AlShukry to talk about his new book Shaytan, a comprehensive study built from more than ten years of teaching. They get into the psychology of Shaytan, why we were given so few physical descriptions of him, how his attacks are tailored to your specific fears and desires, and the step by step method he uses to move a person from a small slip to something far worse. Along the way there are stories worth hearing, including a thobe shop in Medina that revealed how Shaytan really operates, and honest talk about fame, ego, and why every one of us needs people who will tell us the truth.Sh. No Animal Has Ever Stopped to Watch a Sunset, Here's Why That Matters | AlMaghrib Podcast
2026/07/11
In this episode, Shaykh Fahad Tasleem sits down with us to explore one of the most overlooked ideas in our tradition: beauty.
We usually treat beauty as a matter of personal taste, something that changes from person to person. But what if that's wrong? What if beauty is objective, woven into the fabric of creation itself, and pointing to something far greater? We talk about why human beings are the only creatures that stop to marvel at a sunset, why a snow-capped mountain can move us to tears, and what that says about who we really are. Shaykh Fahad unpacks how our environment quietly shapes the way we perceive reality, how the modern world has dulled our sense of wonder, and how reconnecting with beauty, in nature, in language, and above all in the Quran, becomes a path back to recognising the Creator. The conversation closes with a story that stays with you: a young man who spent his entire life in Islamic school, who could recite every ruling by heart, yet felt no one had ever truly introduced him to who Allah is, until the door of beauty was opened.A reflective, wide-ranging conversation about wonder, meaning, and the signs placed in plain sight.Guest: Shaykh Fahad Tasleem, research fellow and instructor at Sapience Institute.
They Spent 70 Years Making You Laugh at UFOs, Here's Why | AlMaghrib Podcast
2026/07/04
For 70 years you were taught to laugh at UFOs, and that wasn't an accident. After WWII, the US saw an explosion of 10,000+ sightings, and what followed was one of the earliest examples of social engineering: a deliberate campaign to make it a cultural stigma to even talk about them. So what's really going on?In this episode of the AlMaghrib Podcast, Sh. Ammar AlShukry sits down with Sh. Fahad Tasleem (research fellow and instructor at Sapiens Institute) to examine the UFO/UAP phenomenon through the lens of the Islamic tradition. They trace the cover-up and its reversal, the 2017 NYT whistleblowers, the House hearings, the rebrand from "UFO" to "UAP," the USS Nimitz "Tic Tac" footage — and then ask the deeper question: what is the best explanation for it all? From testimony as a source of knowledge, to alien abductions, to the "Jinn Hypothesis" and why it may have greater explanatory scope, power, and depth than the extraterrestrial story, this is a conversation about being ready for what comes next, especially if disclosure ever claims that "they" created us.🛸 This is Part 1 — Part 2 drops next week.
