The Crowd in Your Head Is Costing You Clients
2026/10/13
Picture a stadium packed with 80,000 people, and imagine every one of them becoming your client. That’s the picture many new business coaches carry around, and it’s exactly what keeps them from ever getting started. In this episode, BJ O’Neal swaps the stadium for three people around a conference table. Three clients are what it takes to launch a business coaching practice. Not thousands. Not a crowd. And before the three, there’s the one. In this episode: Why the crowd in your head burns mental calories and stalls your progressWhy small is not a downgrade but the actual designHow Zechariah 4:10 reframes the season of small beginningsWhy you can’t start in someone else’s middleHow a small list of people you already know beats a big list of strangersHow going deep with a few clients turns the few into many (Luke 16:10)Your banker, your dentist, your neighbor, the men at your church. Your next client is likely already connected to someone in your network. If you’d like to see how we help coaches land their first clients through the people they already know, visit businesscoachmastery.com and grab a time for a simple conversation. “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin.” Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)
The Pain of Creating Resources as a Business Coach
2026/10/06
Most coaches think building their own tools and resources is the smart way to launch a coaching practice. For most, it quietly becomes the most expensive detour they'll ever take. Years ago, my wife took the kids to her mom's for the weekend so I could finally finish a course I'd been talking about forever. I poured 60 hours into it on my back patio. The content was solid. Hardly anybody bought. In this episode, I share what went wrong with that course and why most coaches shouldn't build their own tools from scratch. We also look at the real difference between buying a franchise, building everything yourself, and using a white-labeled system that bends around your life instead of the other way around. Psalm 127:1 (NLT) says, "Unless the LORD builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted." If you've been pouring hours into building something and wondering why it isn't landing, this one's for you.
You Can't Steer a Parked Car (It's not what you think)
2026/09/29
When you drive at night, your headlights only show you about 200 feet of road. And yet that's all you need to get from New York to LA. So why do so many coaches sit in the driveway, waiting to see the whole journey before they ever turn the key? In this episode of Business Coaching Success, BJ O'Neal talks about forward motion: what it looks like to move ahead when you don't have the perfect words, a clear picture of where it's all going, or the confidence you wish you had. BJ unpacks the three types of coaches and business owners he sees again and again, and why only one of them builds real momentum. He also shares a simple three-word rhythm that shapes how he handles plans that don't work out, and what a moment at the Jordan River teaches us about faith and action. Plus, you'll hear how the same exact strategy can lead to completely different results depending on how you show up, and why the smallest step might be the most powerful one you take this week. Whether you're already coaching or quietly exploring your next chapter, this episode will help you get out of the driveway and back on the road.
The Lie That Feels Like Progress (And it's not what you think)
2026/09/15
Overthinking doesn't feel like avoidance. It feels like diligence. That's what makes it so easy to stay stuck in it for months, sometimes years, without realizing it. In this episode, BJ breaks down why so many aspiring coaches (and plenty of working ones) mistake endless processing for progress, and why the compass you're aiming for doesn't need constant rechecking to still be true. You'll hear a personal story that reframes what "waiting for the right time" actually costs you, a look at James 1:22-25 and what it means to be a hearer only, and a simple daily practice that quietly compounds over a year into real movement. If you've been circling the same decision for a while now, this one's for you. Curious what a done-with-you coaching path could look like for you? Head to businesscoachmastery.com and grab a simple 30-minute conversation. No pressure, just clarity.
The Biggest Problem A Coach Needs To Solve (To Create Momentum)
2026/09/08
Most coaches don't have a hustle problem. They have a clarity problem. We've all met that coach who answers messages at 6am, stacks calls back to back, and posts three times before lunch... and by Friday, exhausted, still not sure what actually moved the needle. Then there's the coach who worked fewer hours, but every one was aimed at something specific. Same amount of effort available. Wildly different results. In this episode, I'm breaking down why the most successful coaches aren't the ones grinding the longest hours; they're the ones being smart and strategic about their plan. Proverbs 21:5 puts it plainly: good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty. Hustle without direction isn't diligence; it's just motion. Here's what we cover: Why clarity about who you serve and what transformation you promise is a strategy, not a luxury. Why your calendar tells the real story of your strategy, not your vision board. Why systems do the lifting that hustle never can, so your growth stops depending on white-knuckling every single day. And why rest is actually part of a strategic plan, not a break from it. If you've been working hard but still feel stuck, or if you're tired of confusing busy with productive, this episode will give you a different lens to look at your week through. Why Most Coaches Quit Before Their Breakthrough
2026/08/25
Most coaches don't have a strategy problem. They have a persistence problem. In this episode, BJ breaks down one of the biggest reasons coaches struggle to build a lasting practice: they stop knocking on the door too soon. Drawing from the widow and the judge in Luke 18 and the farming wisdom of Ecclesiastes 11:6 ("plant your seed in the morning and keep working until evening, because you don't know which effort will succeed"), BJ shows why consistency, not talent, is what actually grows a coaching business. You'll learn: Why most coaches give up after 2-3 follow-ups, and why the real number is 8 to 12How to follow up the right way after meeting a prospect (and why speed matters)Why "no response" almost never means "not interested"How to spread outreach across texts, email, calls, and LinkedIn without adding frictionWhy relationship building, not selling, is what actually plants long-term client relationshipsHow to use a CRM to systemize your follow-up instead of relying on memory or motivationIf you want a business coaching practice that lasts three to five years with a client (or longer), it starts with a decision to keep watering what you've planted, even when it's quiet.
Why Your Visual Presentation Changes Everything
2026/08/18
A weak presentation can undercut a strong coach. That's the hard truth BJ unpacks in this episode, because people believe what they can see, and a clear picture builds trust faster than the clearest argument ever could. In this episode, BJ breaks down why a hyper visual, interactive process (not a slide deck) is the bedrock of growing a coaching practice: → Why visuals turn abstract value into a felt experience→ Why simplicity beats sophistication every time→ How a weak presentation quietly undercuts even a skilled coach→ Why persuasion isn't the same as selling, and how a compelling process protects the relationship→ A look inside the tools BJ's coaching team uses to help business owners see, not just hear, what's possible Proverbs 29:18 reminds us that where there is no vision, people are unrestrained (NLT). The same is true in coaching. When a business owner can't see it, they can't buy into it. Your job as a coach isn't to convince; it's to show. If you're a business coach, or thinking about becoming one, and you want a done-with-you system that's already built out (visuals, questions, and all), head to businesscoachmastery.com and grab a time to talk. We'll walk you through exactly how it works. #BusinessCoaching #FaithDrivenBusiness #BusinessCoachMastery
Coaches, Your Clients Can Smell the Difference
2026/08/11
Strategy is the tool. Heart is the reason. In this episode, I dig into why leading with heart, not just systems and strategy, is what actually builds trust with the business owners you coach. If you've ever wondered why some coaching relationships just click, and others feel flat, this is why. I walk through five ways heart changes everything in coaching: how it shapes the way you listen, gives you courage to say the hard things, makes your systems trustworthy, and keeps you sustainable when the hustle would otherwise burn you out. If you're a coach on our team, or you're in a season where you're considering coaching as your next chapter, this episode is for you. Head to businesscoachmastery.com if you'd like to talk it through.
The Compass Leader: The Secret to Coaching Success
2026/08/04
Most coaches think their job is lead generation. It's not, it's leadership. In this episode, I break down the difference between a "weather vane" leader who shifts with every room they walk into, and a "compass" leader who stays fixed on what actually works: systems and processes. We talk about:→ Why chasing "lead gen" sets you up wrong from the start→ How to create light bulb moments that build real trust→ Saying the hard things with candor, the right way→ Why profit is the domino that knocks over every other domino→ The two questions that reveal what a business owner actually wants If you're coaching, or thinking about coaching, this one will shift how you show up in every conversation. Want to talk through what a done-with-you coaching system could look like for you? Head to businesscoachmastery.com to find a time to chat.
The 74% Rule Most Business Coaches Ignore
2026/07/21
In this episode, BJ O'Neal breaks down one of the most overlooked reasons business coaches struggle to land and keep clients: relying on speech alone instead of visual presentation. You'll learn why only 10-25% of what you say is actually remembered by prospects, and why humans process visual information roughly 74% faster than spoken words. BJ explains how this psychology impacts your ability to close deals, build trust, and guide business owners toward those "lightbulb moments" that turn conversations into clients. Topics covered in this episode: Why profitability is "the domino that knocks over all the other dominoes" in a business The real reason most businesses don't survive past five years (hint: it's not what you think) Why passion and heart alone aren't enough to grow a coaching practice The psychology behind why word-heavy pitches fail with overwhelmed business owners How a guided visual presentation creates trust and positions you as the agent of change The difference between relational conversations and strategic, visual-driven presentations Whether you're a faith-driven entrepreneur, a Christian business coach, or exploring business coaching as your next chapter, this episode will change how you approach every client conversation going forward. Why Most Business Coaches Stay Stuck (And How Systems Fix It)
2026/07/14
You don't need every answer to be a great coach — you need a system you trust. In this episode, BJ breaks down why randomness kills coaching businesses, using two unlikely teachers: his wife (algebra) and his mom (green bean casserole). Learn why systems beat advice every time, and how a predefined strategy turns "I'm not sure" into "here's exactly what we do next."

3 Reasons Why Imperfect Action Beats Perfect Planning
2026/06/16

The AI Goldrush Trap for Coaches
2026/06/02
What if the biggest threat to your coaching business isn't AI itself—but what you believe AI can do for you? Drawing parallels to past technological shifts like websites and social media, he explains why AI is a powerful tool—but a terrible strategy. This episode explores the role of trust, human connection, and consistent value creation in an increasingly AI-driven world, while providing practical guidance for integrating technology without losing the fundamentals that build lasting businesses. Key Insights:AI is a tool, not a replacement for strategy, relationships, or trust. Every major technology shift creates hype—and opportunities for those who stay grounded. Coaches who rely solely on AI will struggle to build meaningful client relationships. Trust remains the ultimate currency in business. Sustainable success comes from combining tools with proven business fundamentals. The future belongs to coaches who use AI wisely, not blindly.
