Yoga Sutra 2.46 Steadiness & Ease
2026/10/21
Yoga Sutra 2.46 – Steadiness & Ease As we step into the new year, let’s return to the fundamentals—prioritizing what nourishes us and creates space for self-awareness. Yoga is an embodied practice that uses movement, breath, and focus to align us with inner stillness. Yoga Sutra 2.46, Sthira Sukham Asanam, reminds us that every posture should embody steadiness (sthira) and ease (sukham), balancing effort and surrender. Hatha Yoga works through the first three koshas—physical, energetic, and mental—to create a foundation for meditation and self-realization. By cultivating physical stillness (kaya nirodha), energetic harmony (prana nirodha), and mental clarity (citta vritti nirodha), we prepare to rest in awareness. Through effort, we create space for effortlessness, refining our actions (karma) and aligning with our purpose (dharma). Today, let’s explore the balance between strength and softness, allowing sthira to ground us and sukham to invite ease, guiding us toward wholeness and harmony. OM TAT SAT Mantra
2026/10/14
Yoga is an inquiry into mind, body, and consciousness, aiming to still the mind for self-realization. Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras guide us in asana practice, emphasizing steadiness (Sthira) and comfort (Sukham) to achieve stillness. By meditating on breath, sensation, light, or devotion, we cultivate focus and transcend duality. OM TAT SAT, found in the Bhagavad Gita, is a mantra of divine truth, aligning us with universal reality. OM represents the primordial sound of creation; TAT points to the transcendent reality beyond form; SAT embodies eternal truth. Together, they guide us to connection, surrender, and truth. Chanting this mantra invites us to release control, embrace our authentic self, and flow with life’s unfolding. As Nisargadatta Maharaj said, “Wisdom tells me I am nothing. Love tells me I am everything. Between the two, my life flows.” Let OM TAT SAT be your guide to inner harmony. As the tantric form of Lakshmi, she represents both material and spiritual prosperity, inviting us to embrace life’s richness with gratitude and grace. She completes the Mahavidya cycle, balancing Kali’s raw transcendence with the joy of manifested creation, reminding us that dissolution and beauty are intertwined. Seated on a lotus, Kamalatmika radiates purity and resilience, symbolising growth amidst challenges. Adorned in jewels and white garments, her smile reflects divine grace and joy. Her hands offer blessings and fearlessness, guiding us beyond scarcity to abundance. Surrounded by elephants pouring water, she signifies fertility, wisdom, and auspiciousness. As the tantric counterpart of Saraswati, she embraces what is wild and unorthodox, guiding us to express our truths and break free from limitations. Matangi governs speech, communication, and the arts, helping us transform self-doubt and embrace radical self-expression. She represents what society casts aside... remnants, impurities, and forgotten truths... transforming them into sources of wisdom and creative renewal. Her imagery, from her dark emerald skin to her symbolic tools like the veena, scimitar, and skull, reflect her power to cut through illusion and awaken authenticity. Mahavidya – Bagalamukhi
2026/09/23
Bagalamukhi, the eighth Mahavidya, embodies the transformative power of silence and stillness, guiding us to nirodha... the stilling of mind, breath, and consciousness. She immobilises negativity, silencing internal and external distractions. Depicted in yellow, with golden radiance, she grips an opponent’s tongue, symbolising mastery over harmful speech and ego-driven illusions. Her teachings call us to clear mental noise and repetitive thought patterns, guiding us toward pure awareness (turiya). Through Bagalamukhi’s energy, we transcend judgment, commentary, and attachment, accessing profound inner peace. As the culmination of the Mahavidya journey, she invites us to witness without reaction, fostering clarity and self-realisation. Mahavidya – Dhumavati
2026/09/16
Dhumavati, the seventh Mahavidya, embodies the shadowed aspects of the spiritual journey, representing loss, emptiness, and the wisdom found in surrender. Known as ‘The Smoky One,’ she is the goddess of the void, guiding us through life’s endings and transitions. Her form as an emaciated crone challenges societal values of youth and beauty, urging us to look inward for truth. Her imagery... a horseless chariot, winnowing basket, and crows symbolises detachment, discernment, and the willingness to face life’s impermanence. As the self-made widow, she reminds us that endings are gateways to deeper wisdom. Dhumavati teaches acceptance, resilience, and the peace found in letting go. Her mantra, Om Dhum Dhum Dhumavati Swaha, invokes her energy to help us embrace life’s uncertainties and trust the void as a space of renewal. Through her, we learn that dissolution is not an end but a doorway to transformation and deeper spiritual understanding. Mahavidya – Tara
2026/08/19
Tara, the second Mahavidya, embodies compassion, protection, and liberation. Her name means "star," offering guidance in life's challenges, helping us face fears and transform suffering. Tara’s soft energy helps us confront hidden parts of ourselves, such as past wounds and conditioned tendencies. Unlike Kali, whose energy is fierce, Tara works gently to release limiting beliefs and guide us through life’s transitions, transforming fear into freedom. Tara’s iconography reflects her unique nature. With dark blue skin, she represents the infinite void and the three worlds. Her five skulls symbolize victory over greed, anger, ignorance, pride, and jealousy. Tara’s serene face, three eyes, and serpent represent awareness, wisdom, and kundalini energy. She holds a lotus, symbolizing purity and spiritual awakening. In practice, Tara invites us to listen deeply to the sounds of our body, mind, and heart. Mahavidya – Kali
2026/08/12
In Tantra and yoga, the Mahavidyas serve as mirrors for self-reflection and transformation. Kali, the first Mahavidya, embodies the raw power of Shakti, ushering in creation, time, and transformation. Her fierce energy teaches us that change is essential, urging us to shed old selves and release limiting beliefs, fears, and attachments. Kali encourages us to confront our shadows... anger, pride, and arrogance... and dissolve the shame tied to them, seeing them as sources of growth. Depicted with a garland of skulls and a sword of divine knowledge, Kali cuts through ignorance, helping us transcend the ego. Her energy, while intense, invites radical transformation and liberation. Shiva, the still awareness, harmonizes Kali’s dynamic power. Their union represents the balance between creation and destruction, movement and stillness. In our practice, we invoke Kali’s imagery to release old patterns, confront fear, and embrace renewal, supported by Shiva’s grounding presence. Mahavidya – Shiva & Shakti
2026/08/05
In this series, we will explore the ten Hindu Goddesses, or Mahavidya, through their iconography and energies, reflecting both light and shadow within ourselves. Our approach honors the cultural significance of these deities, deepening our understanding of yoga’s spiritual roots. At the heart of yoga and Tantra is the union of Shiva, pure consciousness, and Shakti, creative energy. Shiva’s stillness witnesses the dynamic movements of life, while Shakti is the force that sustains and dissolves the universe. These energies are inseparable, and their union fuels all creation. Through asanas, pranayama, and meditation, we harmonize Shiva’s stillness with Shakti’s energy, awakening our true nature. As Shakti rises through the chakras to unite with Shiva, a profound spiritual awakening occurs. Our practice will embody their cosmic dance, where each movement is a reflection of creation and consciousness merging. This journey inspires bliss, contentment, and self-awareness, honouring the divine interplay within us. Duality is Secretly Unity
2026/07/29
Yoga is often seen as union — the integration of opposing forces into a harmonious whole. However, union and separation are not contradictory but complementary, two sides of the same coin. In asana, we balance opposing forces like the left and right sides, learning to find our center through both asymmetry and symmetry. This union within the body also invites detachment from physical limitations, recognising that we are not defined by our capabilities. Breath embodies union in the balance of inhaling and exhaling, while stilling the breath leads to detachment from fluctuating energy, resting in pure consciousness. Through non-attachment (vairagya), we separate from thoughts and stories, revealing the underlying unity of consciousness. Yoga teaches us to observe emotions and thoughts without attachment, recognising them as transient. Nature reflects this duality, and yoga helps us experience the union between consciousness and embodiment, transcending yet fully present in each moment. Union and separation are two forces guiding us to our true essence. To read more and to practice with Zephyr Wildman, click here.  To support Zephyr Yoga Podcast, donate here. Hosted on Acast. Three Questions to Reflect On
2026/07/22
Today, we reflect on three profound questions: "How well did you live? How deep did you love? How well did you let go?" These questions invite us to examine our lives and yoga practice. In yoga, mindful living is about being present in each moment. We cultivate compassion (Karuna), joy (Mudita), and wisdom (Prajna) as we practice, embracing ourselves with kindness and sensitivity. Let’s live with joy and awareness, responding to challenges with empathy. Loving-kindness (Metta) is central to both yoga and Buddhism. Our practice today fosters unconditional love and equanimity, accepting ourselves and others without attachment or aversion, cultivating inner peace. Letting go is key in yoga. Through non-attachment (Vairagya), we release physical, emotional, and mental tension. With each breath, we let go of what no longer serves us, embracing impermanence (Anicca). Inhale "Let," exhale "Go" – and practice releasing, moment by moment. Let’s live, love, and let go fully.
