#103 - Dreaming - Bethany Payet 🏴
2026/09/28
Bethany Payet was head of the art department in a UK school, saying yes to everything until she was close to burning out completely. In 2025 she handed in her notice, spent one summer testing whether she could make it as an artist, and then left the UK with her partner Matt to travel for 8 months through Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Bali.
In Thailand, an idea to try painting a mural turned into two walls, a mentorship programme, and a decision to go all in. Now based in Australia, she's working on her first paid mural and building a full-time career as a muralist, with no fixed plan for where she and Matt land next.
We talk burnout, walking away from a stable career, finding direction through art, and the lesson she keeps coming back to: you get back what you give.

BONUS: CTP meets...'Never Did It'
2026/09/24
This time Gary is on the other side of the mic. Joining Brad Garoon and Jake Ziegler on the Never Did It Podcast to talk about two British films from the 80s:Withnail and I and The Long Good Friday.
One is a boozy, bleak and brilliantly funny story of two out-of-work actors fleeing London for a countryside "holiday" that goes horribly wrong. The other is Bob Hoskins at his absolute best as Harold Shand, a London gangster whose empire starts falling apart over one Easter weekend.
We get into the humour, the grit, the Britishness of it all, and how these films land with American ears. Huge thanks to Brad and Jake for having me on.

#102.5 - The Monday Mood - 9/21 - 'One Foot in Front of the Other'
2026/09/21
This week on The Monday Mood, Gary talks through two conversations that stuck with him, both with people fighting something hard with no way around it. From there, a look at fortitude, why "how are you" so often gets an answer nobody means, and what he's started calling life therapy, the plain, everyday version of getting something off your chest with someone who'll actually listen.
Plus, Crossing the Pond is building a team for Prostate United this October, its eighth year running under the Prostate Cancer UK banner.

#102 - United - Ross Burbeary 🏴
2026/09/14
We welcome back a previous CTP guest, Ross Burbeary, to the show this week. Co-founder of the 'Prostate United' challenge back in 2018. A month-long challenge born out of personal loss that's since grown into one of the biggest grassroots fundraisers in English football.
Eight years on, with clubs, staff, and fans across the country lacing up every October, Ross joins me for a catch-up on where it all began, what's changed, and why this year's challenge matters as much as ever.
Prostate cancer kills one man every 45 minutes in the UK. This October, Prostate United gives you a way to fight back; walking, running, or cycling every day of the month for a cause that touches nearly every family somewhere.

#101 - Fortitude - Matt Evans 🏴
2026/09/07
This week's guest was born in Wales, deliberately, so he could one day pull on a red shirt and play rugby for his country. That's the first decision someone else ever made for him. Everything after that has been his own.
Matt Evans first caught the bug for the US during a summer project as an 18-year-old. Upon his return to Wales, he always had one eye on a getting back to the US, eventually leading to a coffee morning that would change everything.
Since then, and moving through countless US cities to his current base in Salt Lake City, he has built a career around wellness. Not just training bodies, but understanding that, in most cases, recovery, health, healing, starts somewhere the physical can't reach.
But underneath the rugby, the Marines, the master's degree, the moving, this is really a story about trust. Trust that saying yes to the next unexpected thing was worth it, even with no guarantee it would work out. Trust in habits over motivation. Trusting the moment on the edge of the crossing is worth it, even when you can't see the other side.

#100.5 - The Monday Mood - 8/31 - 'Unpacking the Suitcase'
2026/08/31
3 weeks back from the UK and still catching up with himself, Gary opens this week's Monday Mood with the whiplash of coming home twice.
Why the people who seem to hold everyone else together are so often the ones who need it most, the male loneliness numbers that don't get talked about enough, and what's actually being lost as pub culture fades out of everyday life.
Plus: Crossing the Pond is building a team for Prostate United this October, and a preview of an upcoming conversation with co-founder Ross Burbeary.

#100 - Memories - Marysue Moses 🇺🇸
2026/08/24
Gary's guest this week is Marysue Moses, a dementia educator, consultant, and former memory care coordinator who’s spent years helping caregivers and professionals create richer, more human connections with people living with dementia.
Long before any of that, she was a theatre kid, trained in London, and later working with Minneapolis’s Illusion Theater, co-founded Theatre at Work. Until her own mother was diagnosed with dementia, prompting her to bring that storytelling instinct into memory care.
On the Eve of the release of her new book , Looking Past Dementia’, Marysue joins me today to talk about what theatre taught her about connection, and what dementia has taught her about hope.

#99 - Socials - Katie Hoang 🏴
2026/08/17
She built a home for other people before she'd fully found one herself.
Leeds → London → six years in Ho Chi Minh City → New Jersey, starting again from scratch. No easy Brit community waiting for her when she landed, so she built one. That's Brits of NJ.
This week on Crossing the Pond, I sit down with founder Katie Hoang to talk about the moves that shaped her, the loneliness that sparked an idea, and what it actually takes to build a community from nothing.

#98 - Fabric - Macarena Tracey 🇨🇱
2026/08/03
This week on Crossing the Pond, I'm joined by Macarena Tracey, who left Chile as a young girl after her father pioneered a life in the US for his family
Macarena spent over twenty years in the fashion industry until recently, when she made a choice to step back from the spotlight and start a quieter chapter in upstate New York.
We talk about all the facets of the fashion world, finding community as a Chelsea fan and what life looks like now, on her own terms.

#97.5 - The Monday Mood - 7/27 - 'Come for The Football, Stay for Everything Else'
2026/07/27
In this Monday Mood, we reflect on what World Cup '26 has done to the people who travelled here for it.
He talks about the England supporters who flooded the streets of New York and New Jersey in numbers he wasn't prepared for. About what seeing them did to him, someone who hasn't called England home in over two decades but never stopped carrying it. About the communities that were already here waiting to meet the world.
Portuguese families in Newark, the Scottish-Americans in Boston, the Salvadoran families in LA, the West African communities in Atlanta — and what it looks like when a country made entirely of people who once crossed their own pond is given a chance to show what it's made of.
And about the noise. The political noise, the background noise, the noise that dominates everything right now. And what football does to it when it puts people who would never otherwise share a room into the same stadium for ninety minutes.
Every person who travelled here for the World Cup crossed a pond. Most of them didn't realize it until they arrived.

#97 - Flow - Cliff Beach 🇺🇸
2026/07/20
This week, we've got a guest whose pond took him from small-town on the east coast of the US all the way to the bright lights of LA
Cliff Beach.stepped out of his comfort zone before he even knew what a comfort zone was, trading everything familiar for a shot at something bigger. Leading to a career in Music, Public Speaking and authoring his 3-book series, Hustle & Flow
Cliff speaks about the speed bumps in his journey and the version of himself he had to leave behind to become who he is today.
We talk about the people who pulled him through it, why the company you keep can make or break your comeback, and why taking that leap, even the scary one, is sometimes the only way to grow.

#96 - Stewardship - Andrew Broadbent 🏴
2026/07/13
This week on Crossing the Pond, we're joined by Andrew Broadbent, whose journey began in England before taking a leap of faith to the United States in the mid-1990s
What started as a young coach chasing an opportunity abroad evolved into a career of leadership, as Andrew went on to become a Regional Manager with UK Elite Soccer (now Steel Sports) helping guide and support thousands of young coaches as they embarked on journeys remarkably similar to his own.
In this conversation, Andrew reflects on the responsibility that comes with leadership, the lessons learned from managing himself as a young man far from home, and how those experiences shaped the way he mentored the next generation.
Now, decades later, life has come full circle as he watches his own two sons reach the age he was when he first packed his bags and set off into the unknown.

#95.5 - The Monday Mood - 7/6 - '23 Years and Counting...'
2026/07/06
Twenty-three years in America. No cake. No big post. Just a quiet Tuesday and a number that made me stop.
This week's Monday Mood is four things that all landed in the same week and somehow won't stop talking to each other in my head.
*Asking for help and why it took this long to get comfortable with it.*Breaking habits that served you once but maybe don't anymore.*Why being kind without agenda is never wasted.*And something James Stuart said about the best chapters of your life. Enjoy them fully, but don't get stuck there.
Twenty-three years in, Still crossing. Most of us are.
New Monday Mood is live now. Link in bio. 🎙️

2026/06/29
My guest this week is James Stuart, a guy who literally crossed the pond as a youngster when his parents brought a little piece of England to Florida in the shape of a proper English pub.
From those early roots, James went on to cut his teeth in NYC's restaurant scene before helping open some of Manhattan's most iconic restaurants and hotels.
Now living in Miami with his wife and two children, he's co-founded CUSTARD, his own hospitality consultancy, writing the next exciting chapter of a remarkable career.
We talk hospitality, hustle, leadership, and what it really takes to build something of your own.
