No AI Tool Has Ever Seen a Pinterest Search Volume | Laura Rike
2026/10/27
Pinterest has never published a search volume. So when AI hands you a keyword list with exact numbers beside every term, Laura can tell you where those came from. She draws the line between what these tools do well and what they invent, plus the five-second question to ask about any keyword.   Key Takeaways: Pinterest Has Never Published a Search Volume: Not to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity. An exact figure like 2,400 monthly searches is a language model doing the one thing it is world class at, inventing a plausible number. The Only Two Real Pinterest Numbers: Trends gives a shape indexed zero to 100, where 100 means busiest this term has ever been. The Ads keyword tool gives bands like 10,000 to 100,000, an order of magnitude wide. Nobody Can Forecast 2029 Keywords: Trends looks about two years back and Pinterest Predicts about a year forward. Past that there is nothing to read, and confidence beyond it marks where someone stopped checking. The Electrician Rule: A good electrician knows where your outlets probably are and still opens the panel every time. AI is the pattern. Your account data is the panel behind your login. Where AI Actually Earns Its Keep: Clustering an export you pulled yourself, drafting against a keyword you verified, and matching a client's voice. The line everybody leaves off the prompt is "don't add any terms that aren't on my list." — The host of The Pintastic® Podcast is Laura Rike, a Pinterest strategist with 15+ years of marketing experience who helps proven businesses add Pinterest as a strategic acquisition channel. Why Your Pinterest Pins Are Invisible to Gift Shoppers | Laura Rike
2026/10/13
For about eight weeks a year, the person typing into Pinterest stops being the person who ends up with the thing you sell. Pinterest's own men's trends report put numbers on it, and Laura walks through how to find who is searching your category and close the gap without rewriting your shop.  Key Takeaways: Gifting Season Breaks the Link: For ten months a year, the woman who wants the linen apron is the one searching for it. In November she is the one who gets it, and her sister, her husband, or her coworker is doing the typing. Pinterest Put Numbers On It: Gen Z men now account for more than 62% of all male monthly searches on Pinterest, up about 17% year over year. Charcuterie board design is up around 390%. Three Free Places to Find Your Buyer: Audience insights filtered to last October through December, the autocomplete under your search bar before you hit enter, and saves against outbound clicks on the same pin. Read Your Copy as the Person Paying: "Handmade walnut serving board, food safe finish" names the owner. "Housewarming gift for the friend who hosts everything" names the buyer. Same page, two completely different searches. Build the Second Door: The pin that is ranking has months of history attached to it, so leave it alone. Build a new pin to the same page with a new image, title, and first line that names the occasion and the recipient.  Mentioned: Ep 58: Pinterest Boards Ep 63: Pinterest Trends  — The host of The Pintastic® Podcast is Laura Rike, a Pinterest strategist with 15+ years of marketing experience who helps proven businesses add Pinterest as a strategic acquisition channel. Pinterest Stopped Showing Your Best Ad to Everyone | Laura Rike
2026/10/06
Pinterest just told us in plain words that they stopped showing your best ad to everyone. A white paper from their own ads team describes a system that picks a different version of your ad for each person who sees it and quietly docks any version that hogs the screen. Laura Rike walks through what it grades, why your tall pin now starts with a handicap, and what to hand Pinterest instead. Key Takeaways: Pinterest Picks a Version Per Person: The old model gave everyone the same winning pin. Now the system reads who's walking in, what they searched, and what device they're on, then picks the version most likely to land. Tall Pins Start With a Handicap: A tall pin shoves three others off the screen, and Pinterest now counts what those three lost. Tall can still win, it just has to earn the space. The System Wants Choices: Three to five images, two to three titles, both layouts if your offer fits both. And they have to be genuinely different. Same photo with a new font is the same pin. Five to Seven Beats Forty: Gains flatten after the first handful, so 40 versions on day one is mostly paying for storage. Pinterest says AI image generators are the reason this system exists. This Paper Covers Ads Only: Organic runs on a different system. Laura flags her organic read as a guess: 2:3 as home base, several genuinely different pins per page, main thing big and obvious.  Mentioned: Ep 59: Design Pins Pinterest Can Read — The host of The Pintastic® Podcast is Laura Rike, a Pinterest strategist with 15+ years of marketing experience who helps proven businesses add Pinterest as a strategic acquisition channel. Pinterest Holiday Pins: Fix the Page Before You Make New Ones | Laura Rike
2026/09/24
Everybody asks when to publish a holiday pin. Almost nobody asks where it lands. Your best pin from last December is still ranking and still getting saved, and it may point at a page arguing for a year that already ended. Laura covers the half of holiday Pinterest nobody talks about.   Key Takeaways: Your Landing Page Is Part of What Pinterest Reads: Two papers from Pinterest's engineers list link-based text alongside pin titles, board names, and engaged searches. Update the page, update the pin's file. Sort by Outbound Clicks: Impressions tell you a pin got shown. An outbound click tells you somebody wanted what was behind it enough to leave Pinterest. Sort last season by that number. Update the Page You Have: For a gift guide or seasonal roundup, keep the old URL. It holds the rankings and saved pins, and a new URL starts at zero on both. If someone searching next November would still be happy to land there, it's evergreen wearing a year by accident. Leave the URL, the Pin, and the Board Alone: Rewrite the slug for the new year and every pin pointing there aims at a 404. An old year in a URL is ugly and harmless. A broken URL is neither. Order of Operations: Take last season's top seven to ten by outbound clicks and group by destination. They'll collapse into three to five pages. Fix the title, meta description, the year in the body copy, and dead products. Then stop. Mentioned: Ep 68: The 28-Day Rule Ep 58: Pinterest Boards  — The host of The Pintastic® Podcast is Laura Rike, a Pinterest strategist with 15+ years of marketing experience who helps proven businesses add Pinterest as a strategic acquisition channel. Pinterest's 28-Day Rule: Why Old Pins Stop Working | Laura Rike
2026/09/17
You have a pin that used to bring 40,000 monthly views. Now it brings 400. You didn't break anything. Old pins with years of engagement kept outranking newer, more relevant ones, so Pinterest built a system called Pin Equalizer to fix it. Laura Rike breaks down the 28-day audition every new pin now gets, and why your 2022 winner isn't coming back on its own.  Key Takeaways: Your New Pin Gets an Automatic Audition: Pinterest built separate indexes for fresh content and guaranteed fresh candidates enter ranking every time. No fixed percentage of slots is reserved, so making the stage still comes down to ranking. The Model Stopped Reading the Scoreboard: During training, Pinterest randomly hides a pin's engagement history from the model. It has to guess from the image, text, relevance, and intent, so your design and copy carry more weight than they did three years ago. Relevance Gates Your Head Start: Fresh pins get a confidence bonus, and on search it gets multiplied by the relevance score. A clever title multiplies your head start by a small number. Say the thing the person typed. 28 Days Is the Whole Window: A pin graduates when it earns enough positive engagement inside 28 days, and pins that burn through the budget get retired. Nothing in the paper describes a way back in, so repinning an old winner does nothing. The Fix Is a Fresh Pin for That URL: Recreate what worked rather than recycling the pin. Your account's track record seeds Pinterest's guess before the new pin earns a single impression. Why Pinterest Rates Most Pins a 3 Out of 5 | Laura Rike
2026/09/10
Pinterest's search engineers published a paper with one line worth reading twice: what people click and save doesn't always tell them whether the result was relevant. Laura breaks down the grading system built because of it, why most pins sit at a 3, and four fixes. Then she hands you a red pen.  Key Takeaways: Engagement Isn't Relevance: People save a hundred things for a hundred reasons. Pinterest's own paper says that doesn't tell them whether your pin answered the search. Your Board Names Get Read: The boards a pin sits on, yours and other people's, are part of how it's graded. A pin on "Weeknight Dinners" arrives with an answer attached. One on "Later" brings none. First Searches Stick: The searches a pin earns early clicks from follow it forward, so traction from the wrong one sticks. Most Pins Sit at a 3: The scale runs 1 to 5, and the middle means "sort of about it." Every extra thing a pin covers drags it there, so one pin aimed at one search wins. Relevance, Intent, and Outcome: Keywords alone stopped being enough. Ask your image whether it proves your title, the searcher's intent, and the outcome they came for. "Freezer meals for new parents" over a stock kitchen photo is a 3. Over labeled containers in a freezer, a 5. Mentioned: Ep 45: Pin Design 2026: Your Pins Don't Need to Be Beautiful. Pinterest Pin Types Explained: When to Use Each One | Laura Rike
2026/09/03
Note: This episode is a previously recorded training session from Laura's archives, re-shared here while she's out. Laura returns with brand new episodes on September 10.   In this episode of The Pintastic® Podcast, Laura Rike breaks down every pin type and when to reach for each one. She covers what happened to idea pins, the scheduler setting working against you, and how one piece of content becomes several pins across several formats.  Key Takeaways: Idea Pins Moved to Ads Only: Pinterest pulled idea pins as an organic format. If your scheduler offers a "simplified pin" checkbox, uncheck it. That's the old idea pin format, and Pinterest classifies it differently than a standard pin. Standard Image Pins Carry Your Click-Throughs: Users are conditioned to see a standard pin and tap through. Reach for these when you want traffic heading to leads and sales. Video Pins Win on Visibility: Moving pins, audio waveforms, slideshows, and faceless videos all count. The click-through button moves by device, so pair video with standard pins. Yes, You Can Pin the Same Content More Than Once: One podcast episode becomes a static pin for the blog post, a video pin from a clip, and a moving pin with the audio. Each cycles to multiple relevant boards. Match the Pin Type to the Funnel Stage: Awareness content works with video and standard pins together. Consideration content does better with standard pins that send people straight to the signup. Sizes and Other Formats: Stick with the 2:3 vertical ratio, roughly 1000 x 1500 pixels. Rich pins sync live details from your site like pricing and cook time. Product pins pull from a connected Shopify catalog. — The host of The Pintastic® Podcast is Laura Rike, a Pinterest strategist with 15+ years of marketing experience who helps proven businesses add Pinterest as a strategic acquisition channel. How to Write Pinterest Pin Titles That Rank | Laura Rike
2026/08/27
Note: This episode is a previously recorded training session from Laura's archives, re-shared here while she's out this week.  In this episode of The Pintastic® Podcast, Laura Rike walks through what belongs in your pin title, what belongs on the pin image, and how the two work together. Your title tells Pinterest how to rank you and tells a human whether to stop scrolling, and most people write for only one of them. Here are her five rules for clear, optimized pin titles.  Key Takeaways: Include Keywords, and Stop There: One to two keywords, used once in the title and once in the description. Keyword stuffing behaves the same way it does on a blog, and repeating a phrase over and over keeps your content from ranking higher. The First 30 Characters Carry the Weight: Titles run up to 100 characters, with about 40 as a working minimum. Pinterest displays roughly the first 30 in search, so lead with the part that has to land and keep it from getting cut off mid-thought. Give Each Pin Its Own Words: When your image text, title, and description all say the same thing, your content competes with itself. Write something unique for each pin. Pinterest reads the text on your graphic too, so those words count. Skip the Salesy Words: Tailwind has reported that including "click" in a title can limit your reach, though Pinterest hasn't confirmed it directly. Reach for emotion instead. Numbers and lists work well, like "5 things you should never do if..." Write Title Case for Humans, Keywords for Pinterest: Title case makes your pins look structured and draws the eye. Keywords tell Pinterest how to classify you. Both get served in one line of text. — The host of The Pintastic® Podcast is Laura Rike, a Pinterest strategist with 15+ years of marketing experience who helps proven businesses add Pinterest as a strategic acquisition channel. How to Sell Digital Products on Pinterest | Laura Rike
2026/08/20
In this solo episode of The Pintastic® Podcast, Laura Rike takes on the sentence she hears from digital product owners every week: "Pinterest doesn't really work for what I sell, it's not visual enough." Then she opens the account and finds a pin that's a picture of a laptop. The core idea: your pin got named after the product while your buyer is out there typing the problem. You'll walk away knowing how to turn one digital product into five doorways into your business.  Key Takeaways: A PDF Can Rank as Well as a Sofa: Pinterest is a search engine that happens to have pictures on it. The sofa wins because someone typed "small sectional for an apartment living room" and the sofa was the answer. The real question is whether your product is problem searchable. Your Buyer Types the Problem: People wake up wanting to stop running out of money before payday. That sentence is the search, so put it in the pin title, the description, and the text on the image. Four Places the Words Have to Match: Pin title, pin description, board name, and the text sitting on your graphic. Pinterest reads that last one, so a gorgeous font that says "The Content Vault" spends your best real estate saying nothing. Show the After: The pantry that's finally sorted. The Sunday morning where nothing is on fire. The card with a zero balance. Your product is the vehicle, and the vacation is what people save. One Product, Five Doorways: Write down five real problems your product solves in your buyer's words. Give each one its own destination, a blog post, a podcast episode, a landing page. Five places to rank instead of one. — The host of The Pintastic® Podcast is Laura Rike, a Pinterest strategist with 15+ years of marketing experience who helps proven businesses add Pinterest as a strategic acquisition channel. How to Use Pinterest Trends to Find Your Publish Date | Laura Rike
2026/08/13
In this solo episode of The Pintastic® Podcast, Laura Rike opens up a free tool sitting inside your Pinterest account that tells you almost to the week when your customers start thinking about the thing you sell. Most people have never clicked it. The core idea: your customer starts searching weeks before they start spending, and Pinterest hands you that gap on a chart. You'll walk away with a three-minute exercise you can run on any product, launch, or season. Key Takeaways: Two Calendars, Six to Eight Weeks Apart: We market on the calendar of the event. Pinterest runs on the calendar of planning. That's a timing problem, and timing you can fix with a calendar instead of a rebrand.Search Trends vs. Shopping Trends: Search trends show people thinking about your category. Shopping trends show who moved to pricing and buying. Publish on the first line, convert on the second.Moments Shows You the Shape: Pinterest's new Moments feature pulls seasonal and cultural events together and shows how interest builds, peaks, and cools. Don't stop at the peak. The cool-off still converts, especially for ads.The Peak Is the Least Useful Number: What you want is where the line leaves the floor, that first lift when it stops being flat. That's the week your customer started planning, and that's your publish date.Run the Walk Back: Name one revenue event, find where its line leaves the floor, then back up two more weeks for buffer. That's your publish date. For launches, give yourself 8 to 12 weeks of runway minimum.— The host of The Pintastic® Podcast is Laura Rike, a Pinterest strategist with 15+ years of marketing experience who helps proven businesses add Pinterest as a strategic acquisition channel. 5 Pinterest Mistakes I Find in Almost Every Account | Laura Rike
2026/08/06
In this solo episode of The Pintastic® Podcast, Laura Rike opens up an account the way she would if you handed her your login and said "just tell me what's wrong." After looking inside hundreds of accounts, she finds the problem about 90 seconds in, and it's never what the owner thinks. When an account goes flat, it's rarely because someone stopped trying. It's a handful of wiring decisions made at the beginning, still running quietly in the background. Here are the five she finds in nearly every account. 📍 Want a second set of eyes? Grab a free pin audit at laurarike.com/pinaudit and Laura will tell you which of the five she sees in your account. Key Takeaways: Everything Points to the Homepage: Seven or eight out of ten accounts do this. People bounce when they have to hunt, and Pinterest reads your destination page, so 40 pins to one page blurs your whole account. Every Pin Sells Instead of Answers: Nobody types your product name into Pinterest. They type their problem. Answer pins go get people, product pins close. One Keyword Wearing 40 Outfits: When every pin and board orbits the same three phrases, your pins compete against each other while the rest of the search space sits wide open. New Pins, Same Few Destinations: Fresh graphics on the same old URL give Pinterest a picture but nothing new to file. Grow your surface area, not just your designs. You're Not Repeating What Works: Pull your top 10 pins by outbound clicks over six months, find what they share, then make five more of that. — The host of The Pintastic® Podcast is Laura Rike, a Pinterest strategist with 15+ years of marketing experience who helps proven businesses add Pinterest as a strategic acquisition channel. Why You Should Start Your Christmas Pins in the Summer| Laura Rike
2026/07/30
In this solo episode of The Pintastic® Podcast, Laura Rike explains the one thing almost everybody gets backwards about holidays on Pinterest. Right now, someone is already outranking you for Christmas while they're at the lake. On Pinterest, your peak season isn't when you start, it's when your summer work finally cashes in. Laura breaks down the ranking runway, the data on how early buyers plan, why holiday ads need to warm up now, and the one small thing to do this week so you're not white-knuckling Q4. Key Takeaways: Holiday Pins Need a Runway to Climb: A brand-new pin doesn't jump to the top of search. Pinterest indexes it, reads it, tests it, then ranks it. For seasonal content that ramp is 90 to 120 days, so a pin peaking in November needs to exist by late summer.Buyers Plan Way Earlier Than You Think: People start holiday discovery about 10 and a half weeks before their main gift purchase, and recent data shows searches starting as early as April. Wait until October and you've missed the first wave.Keep Holiday Pins Evergreen: Don't stamp the year on the graphic. Put it in the pin title if you want, but the moment you date the image, you turn a perennial back into an annual you have to remake every year.Ads Warm Up, Too: Brands see around five times more conversions when people meet their ads earlier in the season, and campaigns running six months or longer see about 33% higher return. Warming can be small and steady.Organic and Ads Feed Each Other: When your boards and pins are already set up and starting to rank, your ads have something warm to build on. Summer organic work and summer ad work are not two separate lists.— The host of The Pintastic® Podcast is Laura Rike, a Pinterest strategist with 15+ years of marketing experience who helps proven businesses add Pinterest as a strategic acquisition channel. Why "Read More" Is Killing Your Pinterest Clicks | Laura Rike
2026/07/23
In this solo episode of The Pintastic® Podcast, Laura Rike breaks down the tiny piece of your pin doing more heavy lifting than you think: your call to action. If your pins say "Read More" and nobody's clicking, the problem usually isn't the algorithm. A vague call to action asks the searcher to make the whole decision themselves, so they keep scrolling. Laura walks through how to name the outcome, where to place your call to action, and why sometimes the smartest thing to ask for is a save.Key Takeaways: Vague Calls to Action Ask Too Much: "Read More," "Learn More," and "Click here" are polite, vague, and hand the whole decision to the searcher. Read more of what? A good call to action is a clear instruction that names the payoff.Name the Outcome, Not the Format: "Read More" becomes "Get the free packing checklist." "Click here" becomes "Grab this template I use for every launch." Specific wins over loud or pushy every time.Say It Twice, On the Pin and in the Description: People act on the image first, judging it in about a second. Put the outcome on the graphic so they know what tapping gets them, then reinforce it in the description.Match the Promise to the Landing Page: If your pin says "Get the free checklist," the checklist better be the first thing they see. When the page doesn't keep the promise in the first three seconds, people bounce, and Pinterest stops showing that pin around.Sometimes the Smartest Ask Is a Save: Some people are still in planning mode. "Save this for when you're ready" is a soft call to action, and a save is one of the strongest signals you can send Pinterest. It builds the audience that buys later. — The host of The Pintastic® Podcast is Laura Rike, a Pinterest strategist with 15+ years of marketing experience who helps proven businesses add Pinterest as a strategic acquisition channel. How to Design Pins Pinterest Can Actually Read | Laura Rike
2026/07/16
In this solo episode of The Pintastic® Podcast, Laura Rike explains something that happens behind the scenes: Pinterest can actually see your images. It scans a picture, picks out the objects inside it, and checks whether your image and your words tell the same story. When they agree, Pinterest gets confident, and confidence turns into traffic. When they don't, it hesitates, and hesitation turns into crickets.  Key Takeaways: Pinterest Reads Your Picture and Your Words: Pinterest built technology that scans an image and picks out the objects inside it. It can find a handbag in a busy photo or spot a chair in a full living room. Your image is part of the message it reads. The Friend Test: Hold up your pin like you're showing a friend across the room. One clear coffee mug on a clean table, and they answer in half a second. Nine tiny images crammed together, and they squint. Pinterest is that friend. Mismatched Image and Title Kills Confidence: A bowl of soup with "Cozy Fall Soup Recipe" lines up. A stock laptop and Red Bull with that same title sends a mixed signal. Pinterest shows your pin to fewer people or the wrong people, which is why you see impressions with no clicks. Three Ways Good Marketers Confuse Pinterest: Overstuffed collages with 10 to 12 images, text-only graphics with no photo, and the sneaky one, a beautiful image and a good title that are secretly about two different things. Give Your Hero Room to Breathe: One shop owner's candle was 10% of the image, tucked behind props and shadow. Moving it to the center with white space around it was like flipping a switch. Pinterest could finally answer what it was looking at. — The host of The Pintastic® Podcast is Laura Rike, a Pinterest strategist with 15+ years of marketing experience who helps proven businesses add Pinterest as a strategic acquisition channel. How to Set Up Pinterest Boards So You Actually Get Found | Laura Rike
2026/07/02
In this solo episode of The Pintastic® Podcast, Laura Rike reframes how you think about Pinterest boards. They're not storage folders, they're search signals that tell Pinterest who you are and what you help people with. Laura walks through how to name boards using Pinterest's actual idea categories, why descriptions are free real estate most people leave blank, the group board myth that needs to die, and how to use secret boards without burning your fresh pin signal.  Key Takeaways: Boards Are Search Signals, Not Storage: Pinterest reads your board structure like a library reads its shelving system. Clear, specific boards hand Pinterest a clean map. Cutesy or vague names hand it a mess it can't share with searchers. Name Boards Using Pinterest's Idea Categories: Go to pinterest.com/ideas and match your board titles to the actual categories Pinterest uses. Save the long-tail keywords and personality for your pin titles and descriptions. Board Descriptions Are Free Real Estate: Most people leave them blank. Write keyword-rich sentences describing what the board is, who it's for, and what it helps with. A title plus description hands Pinterest a clean label to index against. Group Boards Aren't Required: The algorithm gives them no special priority. Any boost is usually vanity metrics like monthly views, not traffic or sales. If yours still drive clicks in your data, keep them. Otherwise, you're allowed to say no. Use Secret Boards for Personal Stuff, Not Drafting: Keep personal interests on secret boards so they don't muddy your business signal. Never stage business pins there first. The moment you pin it, you burn the fresh pin signal. — The host of The Pintastic® Podcast is Laura Rike, a Pinterest strategist with 15+ years of marketing experience who helps proven businesses add Pinterest as a strategic acquisition channel.
