Can One Person Really Change a Marriage?
2026/10/06
Can a marriage really change when only one spouse is willing to do the work?
In Part 2 with Belah Rose of Delight Your Marriage, Brad and Belah explore the influence each spouse has over the culture of their marriage. Belah explains why lasting change can't depend on getting the response you want from your spouse, how husbands can create greater safety and connection, and why loving your spouse well is ultimately rooted in faithfulness to God rather than reciprocity.
They also tackle some harder questions around openness, pornography, infidelity, sexual struggles, and when disclosure requires outside help. Ultimately, the conversation comes back to a change of heart: seeing your spouse not as a means to getting what you want, but as someone God has entrusted you to love well.
In This Episode:
- Whether one spouse can change the direction of a marriage
- Why you have more influence in your marriage than you realize
- Loving your spouse without making their response your motivation
- Why marriage can make us more like Jesus
- How anger and frustration can undermine a wife's sense of safety
- Why complete openness isn't always synonymous with wisdom
- Getting accountability for pornography and sexual temptation
- Why freedom rarely happens in isolation
- Navigating disclosure after infidelity with wisdom and professional help
- Why sexual problems don't necessarily mean someone is a bad spouse
- Moving from entitlement to a posture of stewardship and love
👉 Don’t forget to subscribe, share, and leave a review to help more couples discover the hope of a grace-filled marriage.
🔑 KEY IDEAS:
- You are always influencing your marriage. Your presence, energy, words, routines, and reactions help shape its culture. Pasted text
- Change can't depend entirely on reciprocity. If the motivation is simply getting your spouse to respond differently, motivation disappears when results don't come. Belah instead frames marriage around loving God and treating your spouse as your "highest human assignment." Pasted text
- Marriage is an opportunity to become more like Jesus. That includes learning to love your spouse in ways they actually receive as love rather than simply giving what you would want yourself. Pasted text
- Safety matters. Belah argues that a husband's anger, frustration, and intensity can affect the emotional safety his wife experiences, even when he doesn't recognize his own influence. Pasted text
- Wisdom should govern openness. Belah returns to her marital-health spectrum: the lower the health of the marriage, the more strategic a couple may need to be about difficult disclosures and conversations. Pasted text
- Freedom doesn't happen in a vacuum. Sexual sin and pornography should be brought into the light through appropriate accountability, though Belah distinguishes accountability from indiscriminately sharing every detail with a spouse. Pasted text
- Infidelity is different. Belah recommends pursuing professional guidance around disclosure and cautions against unnecessary granular detail. Pasted text
- Sexual difficulty doesn't automatically mean someone is failing as a spouse. Belah says she works with good husbands whose sexual relationships are still broken and often require time, healing, practical changes, and heart work. Pasted text
- The deeper shift is from entitlement to stewardship. Instead of seeing a spouse as a means to an end, Belah encourages seeing her as "God's daughter" whom a husband has the opportunity to care for well.

Why Healthy Marriages Are the Future of the Church
2026/09/22
If we want stronger families and stronger faith in the next generation, where should we start?
According to Devin Tharp, it starts with healthy marriages.
In Part 2 of this conversation, Brad Rhoads and Devin discuss why churches often invest heavily in children's and student ministries while overlooking the foundation that supports them both: marriage. They explore how intentional marriage discipleship creates healthier families, why beautiful marriages are one of the greatest evangelistic tools available, and how even small investments can dramatically change the trajectory of couples and churches.
In this episode:
- Why healthy marriages produce healthy families
- The connection between marriage and generational faith
- Why the church has often prioritized the wrong ministries
- How beautiful marriages become compelling to unbelievers
- Why prevention beats crisis management
- How phones quietly damage connection
- One Grace Marriage lesson that changed Devin's weekly rhythm
- Why undivided attention is one of the greatest gifts you can give your spouse
👉 Don’t forget to subscribe, share, and leave a review to help more couples discover the hope of a grace-filled marriage.
🔑 KEY IDEAS:
- The primary disciplers of children are parents, not the church.
- Healthy marriages strengthen the faith of the next generation.
- Marriage ministry isn't simply divorce prevention—it's creating marriages people want to imitate.
- Young adults often reject marriage because they've rarely seen beautiful marriages modeled.
- Churches should invest in marriages before problems become crises.
- Many marriages live in the "5 or 6 out of 10" range where intentional discipleship makes a huge difference.
- Beauty attracts people more than obligation ever will.
- Phones often steal emotional presence long before couples realize it.
- Putting away distractions and offering undivided attention strengthens intimacy.
- Small, consistent investments produce lasting change.

Why Every Church Needs an Ongoing Marriage Ministry
2026/09/15
Healthy churches are built on healthy marriages, but most churches only engage marriage at the beginning or the end.
In this episode, Brad Rhoads talks with Devin Tharp, Family Pastor at Good Shepherd Church and President of Charlotte Marriage, about building a church culture that proactively disciples marriages instead of simply responding to marital crises.
Devin shares how his church moved from occasional date nights to a complete marriage discipleship pathway, why healthy marriages transform families, and why investing in marriage may be one of the greatest opportunities churches have to shape the next generation.
In this episode:
- Why marriage ministry shouldn't begin and end with premarital counseling
- The difference between crisis management and crisis prevention
- How healthy marriages disciple children naturally
- The weekly rhythms that have strengthened Devin's 27-year marriage
- Why churches need an ongoing pathway for marriage discipleship
- How Good Shepherd Church built a comprehensive marriage ministry
- Why Grace Marriage became the missing piece after Re|Engage
- The importance of creating a church culture where marriage investment is normal
👉 Don’t forget to subscribe, share, and leave a review to help more couples discover the hope of a grace-filled marriage.
🔑 KEY IDEAS:
- Healthy marriages create healthy families, and healthy families disciple the next generation.
- Couples don't naturally stay connected—they need intentional rhythms.
- Devin's weekly rhythm includes Scripture individually, praying together daily, a protected Friday date day, and Grace Marriage workbook discussions.
- Couples often believe love alone will sustain a marriage, but healthy marriages require ongoing investment.
- Many churches invest heavily in premarital counseling and crisis counseling but neglect everything in between.
- Churches should move from crisis management toward crisis prevention.
- Marriage ministry is fundamentally discipleship.
- Re|Engage provides intensive marriage discipleship, while Grace - ---- -- Marriage provides the ongoing rhythm needed afterward.
- Churches don't need to create all their own curriculum—they can leverage excellent existing resources.
- Marriage ministry should become part of the normal discipleship culture of the church.

Your Marriage Needs Margin, Not More Busyness
2026/09/08
Busy couples rarely drift apart because they stopped loving each other. More often, life simply crowds out the time and attention their marriage needs.
In Part 2 with Frontline Marriage Founders Matt and Angel Rigsby, Brad Rhoads explores how couples can stay connected in demanding seasons without waiting for life to slow down. Matt and Angel share their simple GROW framework for meaningful daily connection, how they intentionally create margin in their family schedule, and why sometimes loving your marriage means saying no...to activities, invitations, even good opportunities.
They also unpack what actually makes a date a date, why gratitude changes how you see your spouse, and how learning to see your husband or wife through God’s eyes can reshape how you treat them.
In this episode:
- How to stay connected when life is genuinely busy
- The GROW framework: Gratitude, Report, Own It, Worship
- Why couples need margin instead of filling every available hour
- How to say no to good things so you can say yes to your marriage
- Why your kids do not need unlimited activities
- The difference between spending time near each other and actually connecting
- Whether movies and double dates really count as date nights
- Why gratitude is one of the simplest ways to strengthen a marriage
- How seeing your spouse through God’s eyes changes how you value them
Matt and Angel have been married for 27 years and have spent approximately 15 years helping couples strengthen and restore their marriages.
Learn more at FrontlineMarriage.com.
👉 Don’t forget to subscribe, share, and leave a review to help more couples discover the hope of a grace-filled marriage.
🔑 KEY IDEAS:
- Couples do not have to wait for life to slow down before reconnecting. They need to become intentional with the moments they already have.
- GROW gives couples a simple rhythm for daily connection:
- G — Gratitude: Share something you appreciate about your spouse.
- R — Report: Keep each other updated on schedules, responsibilities, and life.
- O — Own It: Take responsibility, apologize, and clear unresolved tension.
- W — Worship: Ask how you can pray for one another and pray together.
- Ten or fifteen intentional minutes can be more relationally valuable than hours spent distracted in the same room.
- A life without margin eventually makes connection nearly impossible.
- Saying yes to every opportunity inevitably means saying no to something else—often your spouse or family.
- Parents have permission to limit activities. Children do not need every opportunity available to them.
- Being together is not automatically the same as connecting.
- Double dates can be great, but they should not necessarily replace one-on-one time with your spouse.
- A movie can be part of a meaningful date, but couples should ask whether they actually connected.
- Gratitude shifts attention away from frustrations and toward what is good and praiseworthy in your spouse.
- The way you value something determines the way you treat it.
- God—not you—is ultimately the “appraiser” of your spouse. Your spouse bears God’s image and should be treated accordingly.

Your Spouse Was Never Meant to Meet All Your Needs
2026/09/01
What happens when you expect your spouse to provide the security, identity, love, and fulfillment that only God can give?
Frontline Marriage Founders Matt and Angel Rigsby join Brad Rhoads to talk about one of the most common dynamics they see in struggling marriages: spouses looking to each other as their ultimate source. When those expectations inevitably go unmet, disappointment can turn your spouse from your partner into the person you blame.
Matt and Angel share lessons from 27 years of marriage and 15 years of marriage ministry, including how couples drift onto autopilot, why communication problems often have deeper roots, and how putting Jesus back at the center changes the way husbands and wives love one another.
In this episode:
- Why your spouse was never designed to meet every emotional need
- How unmet expectations turn into resentment and conflict
- The difference between your source, partner, and enemy
- Why two emotionally empty people cannot fill each other
- How your relationship with Jesus changes your marriage
- Why healthy change requires addressing the root, not just the fruit
- How spouses can support each other during difficult seasons without becoming responsible for each other’s wholeness
Matt and Angel have been married for 27 years and have spent approximately 15 years helping couples strengthen and restore their marriages. Learn more about their work at FrontlineMarriage.com.
👉 Don’t forget to subscribe, share, and leave a review to help more couples discover the hope of a grace-filled marriage.
🔑 KEY IDEAS:
- Jesus is your source; your spouse is your partner. Expecting a spouse to provide what only God can provide places impossible pressure on marriage.
- Unmet expectations can slowly cause husbands and wives to begin viewing each other as the problem—or even the enemy.
- Many couples don’t intentionally choose disconnection; they gradually move onto autopilot.
- Two people looking to each other for identity, security, purpose, and worth will eventually exhaust one another.
- A healthy vertical relationship with Christ produces healthier horizontal relationships.
- When a person is being filled by Christ, they have something healthy to pour into their spouse rather than continually demanding to be filled by them.
- Good counseling cannot merely address outward behavior. Lasting transformation requires addressing the roots producing the behavior.
- Marriage still involves mutual care and sacrifice. Saying your spouse is not your “source” does not mean spouses stop meeting one another’s needs.
- Difficult seasons are opportunities for spouses to function as partners: supporting, serving, and carrying one another when one is struggling.
- A spouse walking in the fruit of the Spirit naturally creates an environment where the other spouse feels more valued, safe, and loved.

2026/08/25
Children are one of God's greatest gifts...but they were never meant to replace your marriage.

- Why 2/3 of marriages experience a drop in satisfaction when kids enter the picture
- How travel sports and over-parenting can hurt your marriage
- The danger of the empty nest crisis—and how to avoid it

✅ Evaluate Priorities – Are you giving all your energy to your kids at the expense of your marriage?

✅ Make Date Night Non-Negotiable – Even if it means missing a kid’s event.
✅ Give Each Other Breaks – Swap responsibilities so both spouses get time to rest.

Stop Trying to Fix Your Spouse
2026/08/04
What if your attempts to improve your spouse are actually making your marriage worse?
Brad Rhoads continues his conversation with worship leader and longtime friend Brandon Swanner about criticism, correction, and the freedom that comes when grace becomes the defining atmosphere of a marriage.
Brandon shares how a temporary “rebuke fast” exposed how frequently he and his wife corrected one another (and how quickly their home became more peaceful when they learned to overlook minor offenses). Together, Brad and Brandon discuss the difference between addressing serious issues and constantly policing preferences, why struggling spouses need compassion rather than criticism, and how delighting in God’s grace changes the way we see the person we married.
In This Episode:
Why Brandon once believed correcting his wife was part of spiritual leadershipWhat happened when Brandon and Tara stopped rebuking each otherHow to distinguish serious issues from ordinary annoyancesWhy many of your spouse’s quirks probably will not changeHow constant criticism creates distance and defensivenessWhy a struggling spouse needs support—not another lectureThe importance of genuine affirmation rather than compliments used to soften criticismHow your identity in God’s grace shapes the way you treat your spouseWhy a healthy marriage gives credibility to the advice you offer othersHow delight, patience, prayer, and self-control create a more peaceful home
👉 Don’t forget to subscribe, share, and leave a review to help more couples discover the hope of a grace-filled marriage.
🔑 KEY IDEAS:
Marriage thrives when we stop trying to remake our spouse into our image and start loving them as the person God created them to be.Your spouse does not need you to constantly correct them; they need to experience your grace, love, and pursuit. There is a difference between lovingly addressing sin and constantly criticizing preferences.A home becomes healthier when correction becomes the exception rather than the atmosphere.Overlooking minor offenses is not ignoring problems—it is choosing love over unnecessary conflict. Many frustrations in marriage come from trying to make your spouse more like you instead of appreciating how God created them.Your spouse’s weaknesses are opportunities to practice humility, patience, and Christlike love. When your spouse is struggling, ask how you can help them thrive before asking how they need to change.Genuine affirmation cannot be a strategy to soften criticism; it must come from genuine delight in your spouse. How you see yourself under God’s grace impacts how you see and treat your spouse.A spouse who feels loved, known, and accepted is more likely to grow than a spouse who feels constantly evaluated. The best correction comes from someone who has already established a foundation of love and trust.Healthy marriages are built through intentional pursuit, self-control, forgiveness, and a willingness to lay down personal preferences.

Don’t Sacrifice Your Marriage for Ministry
2026/07/28
Ministry can reward the very habits that quietly damage a marriage.
In this episode, Brad Rhoads talks with Brandon Swanner, a longtime pastor and worship leader, about the pressures that pull church leaders away from their spouses. They discuss how long hours, people-pleasing, public affirmation, and the constant needs of ministry can make neglect look like faithfulness.
They also explore the importance of trusted friends who lovingly intervene, why character and family health matter more than talent, and how a beautiful, authentic marriage can become one of a church leader’s most powerful forms of ministry.
In This Episode
- How ministry pressure can unintentionally harm a healthy marriage
- Why church leaders receive more praise for working than for going home
-The friends who challenged them to become better husbands
- Why loving correction can alter the course of a family
- How talent can disguise problems in a leader’s home
- Why spiritual authority is connected to character and family life
- How healthy marriages become models for younger couples
-What church members can do to support their pastors’ marriages
👉 Don’t forget to subscribe, share, and leave a review to help more couples discover the hope of a grace-filled marriage.
🔑 KEY IDEAS:
- Ministry success should never come at the expense of a leader’s spouse.
- Churches often celebrate visible work while overlooking faithfulness at home.
- Trusted friends should be willing to challenge one another to love their spouses well.
- Advice about marriage carries greater weight when it comes from someone living it authentically.
- Talent and charisma cannot permanently compensate for weak character or an unhealthy home.
- A beautiful marriage gives credibility and authority to a leader’s public ministry.
- Couples often learn more by observing healthy homes than by receiving instruction alone.
- Church leaders must visibly prioritize their marriages if they expect their congregation to do the same.

Stop Letting One Problem Define Your Marriage
2026/07/21
Marriage isn’t defined by its biggest problem...it’s defined by the whole relationship.
In this episode, Brad Rhoads and Jeremy Bennett discuss why couples often allow one unresolved issue to overshadow everything that’s healthy in their marriage. They explore how unrealistic expectations, differences in personality, and life’s daily frustrations can distort our perspective and make a normal struggle feel like a failing marriage.
You’ll learn how to put problems in their proper place, extend grace to your spouse, respond with humility, and pursue growth without letting one issue become the lens through which you see your entire relationship.
In This Episode:
* Why one issue can consume your view of your marriage
* How to tell the difference between a problem and a crisis
* Why the traits you loved while dating often frustrate you after marriage
* The danger of expecting your spouse to meet every need
* How grace and repentance keep marriages healthy
* Why Christ—not your spouse—is your ultimate source of satisfaction
* How ongoing marriage investment prevents small issues from becoming major ones
👉 Don’t forget to subscribe, share, and leave a review to help more couples discover the hope of a grace-filled marriage.
🔑 KEY IDEAS:
* Don’t let one weakness define an otherwise healthy marriage.
* Keep problems in perspective instead of allowing them to consume your thinking.
* Differences are invitations for growth, not proof you’ve married the wrong person.
* Healthy marriages are built on grace, repentance, and realistic expectations.
* Your spouse was never meant to carry the weight that only Christ can bear.
* Address small issues early before they grow into crises.

Quit SAYING Marriage Is Important and TREAT IT That Way
2026/07/14
Most couples do not arrive at crisis overnight. They drift there.
In this episode, Brad Rhoads and Jeremy Bennett talk about how busyness, fatigue, kids, stress, grief, and everyday life can slowly push marriage to the margins. They discuss why couples must intentionally pursue each other even when they do not feel like it, and why churches must boldly shepherd people toward a marriage-first culture.
In This Episode:
* Why couples drift into crisis over time
* How hard seasons can quietly disconnect spouses
* Why dating your spouse needs consistency
* Why marriage investment cannot depend on feelings
* How churches can challenge a child-centered culture

Marriage Ministry Is Bigger Than a Program
2026/07/07
Marriage ministry is about more than helping couples fight less.
In this episode, Brad Rhoads and Jeremy Bennett talk about why churches need a bigger vision for marriage and marriage ministry. They explain the difference between running a marriage program and building a lasting ministry that disciples couples over time.
Brad and Jeremy discuss the theological richness of marriage, why healthy marriages strengthen the entire church, and why churches should treat marriage ministry as an ongoing discipleship pathway, not a one-time event.
In This Episode
* Why marriage ministry needs a bigger vision
* The difference between a program and a ministry
* Why marriage is theologically central, not secondary
* How healthy marriages strengthen kids, youth, finances, and church life
* Why ongoing marriage discipleship matters
* Why older couples should not be overlooked
* How churches can build a culture that honors marriage
👉 Don’t forget to subscribe, share, and leave a review to help more couples discover the hope of a grace-filled marriage.
🔑 KEY IDEAS:
* Marriage is bigger than helping couples get along better
* A program creates moments, but a ministry creates formation
* Churches need ongoing rhythms for marriage discipleship
* Healthy marriages make every other ministry stronger
* Marriage is a living picture of the gospel
* Older couples still need investment and have wisdom to offer
* Big vision drives budget, staffing, strategy, and culture

Are you TOO BUSY for your marriage??
2026/06/30
There will always be a reason not to invest in your marriage.
In this episode, Brad Rhoads and Jeremy Bennett talk about why couples often drift away from intentional marriage investment, especially during busy seasons. They discuss how work, kids, sports, chores, church activities, and general exhaustion can slowly squeeze out the most important human relationship in the home.
Brad and Jeremy challenge couples and church leaders to stop treating marriage as something that will work on autopilot and start making consistent, intentional investment a non-negotiable rhythm.
In This Episode:
* Why busy seasons are not a reason to neglect marriage
* How couples unintentionally schedule over their marriage
* Why marriage needs protected time, not leftovers
* How church leaders can shepherd couples toward consistency
* Why kids’ activities often get priority over marriage
* How consistent investment changes marriage over time
* Why couples need to decide whether they are part of the problem or the answer
👉 Don’t forget to subscribe, share, and leave a review to help more couples discover the hope of a grace-filled marriage.
