Description

The So Many Games Podcast is a monthly show produced by the team behind the video game review website So Many Games. Hosted by Jason, we invite video game creators to talk about their craft and the games they’ve made. Usually concentrating on the guest’s background in game development, the creative process behind their project, and their thoughts on game design and the industry. We hope this is a place to come for developers to shine a light on their game through deep and meaningful conversation and for listeners to learn some new facts behind their favourite games.

#23 | The Denshattack! Soundtrack with Andrew One
2026/10/01
For our second Denshattack episode, we happily greeted one of the game's composers, Andrew One, to the show. It was a blast talking with Andrew, and we delved into many of the creative processes of not only how the vast group of composers were handled, how they were assigned the tracks and how the tracks themselves were created, but we also tangented to recognition for music composers, chiptune music, Sonic CD and much more! We would just like to thank Andrew for sharing some of his spare time to chat with us. #21 | The Incident at Galley House with Robin Ward
2026/08/21
The Incident at Galley House really caught our attention not only for its mysterious plotline, fun and involving mechanics, and tremendous hint system but also for the history behind it, so when we had the chance to speak with Evil Trout founder and lead developer Robin Ward about the game's development, we jumped at the chance. In our conversation we delve into many of these subjects, The Roottrees are Dead, and much more! We would like to thank Robin for spending some of his spare time to talk with us. #20 | Feed the Scorchpot & QA in Gaming with Jakub Pernes, Josh Chiodo & Paul James
2026/08/10
Episode 20 brings two interviews in one episode. Firstly, we speak with Josh and Jakub on the upcoming Balatro-like game, Feed the Scorchpot. This is Jakub's first game, and from what we have heard so far, it sounds like he has really captured the magic of Balatro with new mechanics and an engaging hook. People involved in QA in gaming are unsung heroes, carrying out such incredible work for games and hardly receiving any recognition for their hard work and contributions. We have wanted to highlight this important part of game development for some time, so we were extremely pleased when Paul James agreed to jump on to share his experiences and what actually goes into QA in gaming for our second interview. We would like to thank Josh, Jakub, and Paul for their kindness in sharing their spare time with us to talk about their projects. Guest Links Follow the Feed the Scorchpot BlueSky account. #19 | Phonopolis with Lukáš Kunce
2026/07/01
The puzzle narrative game Phonopolis was released earlier this year and showcased a dictatorship-led world shown through gorgeous stop-motion visuals and movements that were made with real cardboard and paints. This artistic choice created a truly unique game with a populated world full of charm and mystery. The puzzles also showed originality through clever use of the environment and fun alternative designs from the norm. Lukáš Kunce is the producer of Phonoplois and head of marketing for Amanita Design, and he kindly spared some time to discuss the many elements that make up the game, including its art, music, its narration and much more! #18 | Adorable Adventures with Steven ter Heide
2026/06/02
Adorable Adventures is a recently released indie game where you take control of a boar called Boris. The aim of the game is to run around to find your sibling and free your mom by following scents. Steven ter Heide is the creative director for the game, and we had a great conversation on the game's development from its initial concept to its scent mechanic through to why the narration was added into the game. #17 | Mina the Hollower with Yacht Club Games
2026/05/22
In a major pinch-me moment, we welcomed Sean Velasco and Alec Faulkner to the podcast to discuss their newest game, which isn't Shovel Knight. Their Zelda-like, Game Boy Colour-styled game, Mina the Hollower, is due to be released next week, and we get the lowdown on its development from the idea behind it, the limitations of making such a game, the reasons behind its heavy delay and much, much more. A huge thanks to Sean and Alec for spending some of their time talking to us, and also a big thank you to Luna from the media team for being amazing; they were always so happy to help me with any queries or problems I had. Big thanks to the composer Jake for sending over some tracks from the Mina the Hollower soundtrack for us to use in this episode. #16 | London Games Festival with John Rogers & James Bruce
2026/05/01
The London Games Festival was held between the 13th and 19th of April 2026, and New Game Plus, the festival's indie game showcase event was held on the 16th and 17th of April. We managed to attend New Game Plus on the 17th, and it was a fun, full day of talking with developers, trying out new games, and meeting familiar faces for the first time. One of those faces was John Rogers from Gaming in the Wild, and he kindly agreed to hop onto this episode to share his thoughts on the event as a whole. We also highlight a few games that we played that deserve your attention. While at the event, I also spoke with James Bruce – co-founder of Saltstone Studios – on their game The Pale Beyond as well as their upcoming spiritual successor, The Hearth and the Harbour. We did try to find a quiet spot to talk, but unfortunately some loud people found us, which was picked up on the mics. We did our best to remove them, but they were quite stubborn to leave the audio, unfortunately. #15 | Concept Art in Video Games with Shaun Mooney
2026/04/01
Concept art has been used in video game development for years and years, and yet we don't really know much about the role it plays in game development. It may seem like a question that answers itself, but I asked veteran game developer and concept artist Shaun Mooney to dive more into its role. While Shaun was here, I took the opportunity to discuss some of his past projects, including his time at TT Games and his work on the LEGO video games, before we transitioned to his current project, Trash City Turbo, the debut game from his new indie game studio, Machinefun. 2026/03/05
This month we had the opportunity to talk to Adam Stjärnljus & Klas Eriksson, the creative director and main writer of Planet of Lana and the sequel Planet of Lana II: Children of the Leaf. The conversation was delightful, full of interesting factoids on the development of both games and their many features, including how the idea came to be, the struggles of getting the game noticed, the amazing music and the new features of the latest game. It's a jam-packed episode, and once you're finished here, please go and give Planet of Lana II a wishlist or go buy it, as this episode drops on the day that it releases on all major platforms. If you would like to keep up to date with Wishfully and the Planet of Lana series, the best way would be to visit their website or search for Wishfully on all the major social platforms. 2026/01/02
Jakefriend is a solo developer from Canada. The first act from his debut game, Scrabdackle, has recently been released, and Jake was very kind in spending some of his rare spare time to talk to us about the game. Jake shared some really interesting details about the development of the game, from the concept to how he landed on the locations to how he ended up with the episodic release idea. If you would like to keep up with Jake and Scrabdackle, then you can follow him on BlueSky, or he is very active in his Discord server.
