#86: What to Do When Buying a Home Doesn’t Feel Like You Imagined
2026/09/27
You bought the house you worked so hard for. So why do you feel less financially secure?
In this episode of Wealth Para Todos, host Rita Soledad Fernández Paulino (they/them), a queer Mexican-American money and self-care coach, shares what happened after they bought a $1.1 million fixer-upper in California. Before the purchase, Soledad was debt-free, at stage nine of financial security, and investing $32,500 a year toward early retirement. A $916,000 mortgage raised their monthly housing costs by about $2,000 and moved them to stage eight.
The adjustment involved more than a new budget. Soledad shares how a wildfire evacuation days after moving in, grief, renovation delays, and feeling out of place in their new neighborhood affected their relationship with the home. It took about 15 months to adapt to a dream they had wanted for years.
If you’re experiencing homebuyer’s regret or wondering how to rebuild savings after buying a house, this conversation will help you:
Understand why homeownership can feel like a financial setback
Review your new housing costs and monthly cash flow
Plan for repairs with a home maintenance sinking fund
Rebuild your savings one milestone at a time
Make room for fear, grief, and gratitude while you adjust

#85: How to Choose a Financial Professional: Financial Advisors, Brokers, CFPs, Money Coaches, Fees, and Red Flags
2026/09/20
How do you choose a financial professional—and what does the title “financial advisor” actually mean?
In this episode, Rita Soledad Fernández Paulino, founder of Wealth Para Todos, explains how to find and vet a financial advisor as a first-gen wealth builder. They break down the differences between brokers, investment advisers, Certified Financial Planner™ professionals, and money coaches so you can determine which type of support fits your needs.
You’ll learn:
The difference between a broker and an investment adviser
What fiduciary duty means and when it applies
What a CFP® professional can—and cannot—do
When to work with a financial planner versus a money coach
How commissions, assets-under-management fees, and other compensation models can create conflicts of interest
The difference between fee-only and fee-based financial professionals
How to calculate the total cost of financial advice
What to consider before working with an advisor through your employer or bank
How to verify credentials, registrations, employment history, and disciplinary records
Five questions to ask before hiring a financial professional
Common financial advisor red flags to watch for
Soledad recommends interviewing at least three professionals and independently researching every referral. A trusted friend, employer, or bank may introduce you to someone, but you still need to understand their qualifications, scope of services, compensation, and potential conflicts of interest.
This episode also explores what first-gen wealth builders may need from a culturally responsive financial professional—including respect for family responsibilities, caregiving, financial trauma, wealth guilt, neurodivergence, and changing capacity.
Enrollment for Wealth Para Todos Academy is open. Attend the open house on September 22 to explore the program, ask questions, and determine whether it is the right fit for you.

#84: How to Build a Self-Care Routine That Actually Changes Your Life
2026/09/13
What if self-care wasn’t just something you turned to when you were already overwhelmed?
For years, I practiced mostly reactive self-care. I waited until my house was intolerably messy to clean it, until my body hurt to get a massage, until my marriage was struggling to communicate my needs, and until I was worried about my spending to pay attention to my dinero.
Con tiempo, I realized I didn’t want to wait until something became a problem to take care of myself.
In this episode of the Wealth Para Todos Podcast, I’m sharing how my understanding of self-care evolved from face masks and massages to the D.I.V.E.R.S.E. Self-Care framework I use today: dinero, interpersonal, vocational, emotional, restorative body, spiritual, and environmental self-care.
We’ll talk about the difference between reactive and proactive self-care, how I use quarterly intentions, monthly outcomes, and daily practices to build self-care habits, and why some of the things that feel completely natural to me today once had to be written on a freaking checklist.
I also break down the difference between comfort-oriented and growth-oriented self-care, how perfectionism can turn self-care into another thing you feel like you’re failing at, and why I now treat my self-care practices as data instead of something I need to do perfectly.
Because self-care isn’t only about helping yourself feel better when you’re overwhelmed. It can also be a way to intentionally practice becoming the person you want to be—poco a poco.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
The seven types of D.I.V.E.R.S.E. Self-Care
The difference between proactive and reactive self-care
How to identify which type of self-care you need in your current season
How I turn 90-day intentions into monthly experiments and daily habits
The difference between comfort-oriented and growth-oriented self-care
How self-care helped me change the way I show up as a parent, spouse, business owner, and person
How to build a self-care routine without turning it into another perfectionist checklist

#83: Tracking Your Expenses: When It Helps You Reach Your Financial Goals (and When It Doesn't)
2026/09/06
Tracking your expenses can help you understand where your money is going, create a realistic budget, and determine how much money you have available to save, invest, pay off debt, and reach your financial goals. But does tracking every expense actually help? How long should you track your spending? And can tracking your expenses help you plan for unexpected expenses?
In this episode of Wealth Para Todos, money and self-care coach Rita Soledad Fernández Paulino (they/them) explains how tracking your expenses can help you fine-tune your financial goals—and when tracking can actually become counterproductive.
Soledad shares their experience tracking every transaction for an entire year and how what started as a way to understand their spending eventually became connected to guilt, shame, control, and the belief that being “good with money” meant knowing where every dollar went.
You’ll learn the difference between tracking your money to gather useful financial information and tracking your money for reassurance. Soledad breaks down signs that tracking may be anxiety-driven, including repeatedly checking your accounts, panicking over small deviations from your budget, restricting your spending to compensate for overspending, trying to prevent every financial surprise, and never feeling like you’re finished monitoring your money.
You’ll also learn when tracking your expenses can actually be useful. Tracking may help when you’re creating a budget for the first time, trying to understand where your money is going, accumulating credit card debt without understanding why, adjusting to a change in income or life circumstances, or determining how much money you can realistically put toward a financial goal.
Soledad recommends approaching tracking as a temporary financial tool. For many people, tracking expenses for 30–90 days can provide enough information to identify spending patterns and make financial decisions. Once you have the information you need, the goal is to move from monitoring every transaction toward building financial systems that help you prepare for unexpected expenses—including a checking account buffer, sinking funds, emergency savings, and a financial plan that can adapt when life doesn’t go according to plan.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
How tracking your expenses can help you reach your financial goals
How tracking expenses can help you create and fine-tune a realistic budget
When you should track your spending and how long to do it
How to use tracking to determine how much you can save, invest, or put toward debt
How to plan for unexpected expenses without trying to predict every expense
The difference between financial awareness and anxiety-driven tracking
Why tracking every dollar isn’t necessary for long-term financial security
How to move from tracking individual transactions to trusting your financial systems

#82: How to Make More Money Without Working More: Anakaren’s First-Gen Wealth-Building Story
2026/08/30
[Wealth Para Todos Academy opens for enrollment September 15. If you want me as your money and self-care coach for the next 12 months, sign up for my free webinar, How to Stop Starting Over, right here.]
Can you make more money without working more or sacrificing your wellness?
In this episode of the Wealth Para Todos Podcast, host Rita Soledad Fernández Paulino (they/them), a queer Mexican-American money and self-care coach, talks with former client Anakaren about increasing her income, building financial security, and investing in herself as a first-gen Latina eldest daughter.
When Anakaren started coaching with Soledad, she believed making more money would require working harder. She was used to rolling out of bed and going straight to work, navigating family stress, and relying on the resourcefulness and hustle that had helped her as a first-gen wealth builder.
Four years later, a lot has changed.
Anakaren shares how developing consistent self-care routines, journaling, thought work, and more flexibility helped her change her relationship with work and money. She also explains why she now intentionally spends money on her wellness—including regular massages and an “Anakaren Fund” for joy—and how she learned to see self-care as an investment rather than an unnecessary expense.
Soledad and Anakaren also discuss:
Why making more money doesn't have to mean working more
Building wealth without burnout or sacrificing your wellness
The connection between self-care, money, and increasing your income
How first-gen money beliefs can influence spending and self-care
Using journaling, thought work, and a feelings wheel to navigate financial emotions
Why Soledad teaches planned vs. unplanned expenses instead of “needs vs. wants”
Using checking account buffers and sinking funds to plan for future expenses
Creating a self-care or joy fund in your spending plan
Spending money to save time through outsourcing and support
Increasing your income through corporate growth, side hustles, real estate, and entrepreneurship
Why taking care of yourself first can help you build wealth and support the people you love
Anakaren also shares how investing in herself, building a strong support system, and protecting her time helped her increase her income, grow in corporate America, invest in real estate, and begin pursuing her general contracting license.
If you're a first-gen wealth builder who wants to make more money, build financial security, and create wealth without sacrificing your rest, relationships, or joy, this episode is for you.

#81: How to Start a Business When You’re Afraid to Put Yourself Out There - Nicole's Story
2026/08/23
Want to start a business or leave your 9-to-5, but feel terrified of putting yourself out there?
You might already have valuable skills, years of professional experience, and an idea of the work you want to do—but starting a business requires you to do something that can feel incredibly vulnerable: let people see you.
In this episode of Wealth Para Todos, I’m talking with Nicole Valenzuela, a queer Latina foster mom and money coach who helps queer and BIPOC folks navigate financial anxiety.
Before becoming an entrepreneur, Nicole spent 14 years working in corporate finance. She knew how to manage money and had already created significant financial security for herself. But turning her skills into a coaching business required an entirely different set of skills.
She had to learn how to create and price an offer, market herself, become more visible, sell her services, onboard clients, and trust that she was capable of helping the people who paid her.
And that brought up a lot of fear.
Nicole and I talk about how she went from wanting to stay behind the scenes—and accepting tamales as payment for her first financial coaching—to confidently marketing her business, getting on sales calls, signing paying clients, and working for herself.
We also talk about the mindset work behind entrepreneurship: overcoming feelings of inadequacy, becoming more comfortable with visibility, building self-trust, and learning to focus on the problems your business actually has today instead of trying to prepare for every problem you might have in the future.
If you want to start a business using the skills you already have but keep thinking, Who am I to do this? What if I'm not good enough? What if people judge me?—this conversation is for you.
In this episode, we discuss:
How to turn the skills you already have into a business
Leaving a corporate career to pursue entrepreneurship
Why visibility and marketing can feel so vulnerable
Overcoming imposter syndrome and feelings of inadequacy
How to become more comfortable putting yourself out there
Creating, pricing, and selling your first offer
Building confidence on sales calls and signing paying clients
How mindset work and journaling can support entrepreneurs
The difference between present problems and possible problems
How Nicole evaluated the ROI of investing in business coaching
Building a business that creates more freedom, flexibility, passion, and purpose

#80: Why Talking About Money Is So Hard: The Role of Emotional Intimacy
2026/08/16
Why is talking about money so hard—even when you make good money? If you struggle with money anxiety, financial shame, asking for help, setting financial boundaries with family, or admitting when you don't know what to do with your money, emotional intimacy may be part of what's missing.
In this episode of the Wealth Para Todos Podcast, host Rita Soledad Fernández Paulino (they/them), a queer Mexican-American money and self-care coach, explains how emotional intimacy can affect your ability to spend, save, pay off debt, invest, increase your income, and move up the 10 Stages of Financial Security.
Soledad defines emotional intimacy as knowing what's happening internally—what you're thinking, feeling, fearing, wanting, and needing—and being able to communicate that experience with safe people. Emotional intimacy isn't simply sharing personal information. It requires awareness, vulnerability, and communication.
For ambitious first- and second-generation wealth builders, asking for help or talking honestly about money can be especially difficult. Growing up around financial insecurity, migration, discrimination, or family sacrifice may have required survival strategies that prioritized solving problems over processing feelings. Patterns like parentification, people-pleasing, perfectionism, hyper-independence, and conflict avoidance may have helped you become successful while also making it harder to admit, "I'm scared," "I don't know," "I need help," or "This isn't working for me."
And those patterns can become financially expensive.
You might understand investing but still feel afraid to put your money into the stock market. You might know you need to increase your income but struggle to negotiate your salary or raise your prices. You might want to save more while feeling guilty about setting financial boundaries with family. Or you may know exactly what you need to do with your money but struggle to follow through because of fear, shame, guilt, grief, exhaustion, or an unmet need.
This episode explores why financial literacy alone isn't always enough to change financial behavior. Your numbers tell you what's happening with your money; emotional intimacy can help you understand what you're experiencing while it's happening so you can identify the support you actually need.
You'll also receive reflection and journaling questions to help you explore your relationship with money, vulnerability, asking for help, and receiving support—and identify anything you may want to explore further through therapy, coaching, journaling, or conversations with people you trust.

#79: How to Recover After Overspending with Low-Spend Weekends
2026/08/09
Are you tired of overspending and feeling like you've failed your budget?
In this episode of Wealth Para Todos, Rita Soledad Fernández Paulino (they/them), a queer Mexican-American money and self-care coach, shares why budgets aren't meant to be perfect—they're meant to help you adapt to real life. If you've ever wondered how to recover after overspending without giving up on your financial goals, this episode introduces one of Soledad's favorite budgeting tools: the low-spend weekend.
You'll learn what a low-spend weekend is, how to create one that actually feels enjoyable, and why everyone should know what their version looks like during different seasons of life. Soledad also explains how completing a weekly money routine helps you recognize when it's time to temporarily spend less, rebalance your budget, and continue making progress toward your savings, debt payoff, emergency fund, and investing goals.
This episode also explores why financial flexibility is one of the most important wealth-building skills you can develop. Instead of striving for a perfect budget, you'll learn how to respond to unexpected expenses with confidence, self-trust, and intention. And if you realize that reaching your financial goals would require constant low-spend weekends, Soledad explains why your next step may be increasing your income—not cutting more expenses.
In this episode, you'll learn:
Why budgets are living documents that require flexibility—not perfection.
What a low-spend weekend is and how to make it enjoyable.
How to use a weekly money routine to stay on top of your finances.
How low-spend weekends help you recover after overspending without shame.
Why financial flexibility is a critical skill for building long-term wealth.
When it's time to focus on increasing your income instead of reducing your expenses.

#78: How to Increase Your Income Through Self-Trust (Not Hustle or Shame)
2026/08/02
In this episode of Wealth Para Todos, Rita Soledad Fernández Paulino (they/them), a queer Mexican-American money and self-care coach, explains why the way you increase your income matters just as much as how much you earn.
If you're an ambitious first- or second-generation professional who's tired of hustle culture, burnout, or feeling like you have to shame yourself into taking action, this episode is for you.
You'll learn the three most common ways people try to increase their income:
Hustling harder
Shaming themselves into action
Building income through self-trust
Soledad explains why hustle and shame can create temporary motivation and short-term income growth, but often lead to burnout, anxiety, avoidance, poor boundaries, and self-abandonment. They then introduce a different approach—building income through self-trust—by cultivating four essential foundations: permission, worthiness, deservingness, and self-trust.
By the end of this episode, you'll understand how to increase your income without sacrificing your health, relationships, or joy, so you can continue moving through the 10 Stages of Financial Security and become work-optional con tiempo.
In this episode, you'll learn:
Why financial insecurity dysregulates your nervous system
The hidden costs of hustle culture when trying to make more money
How shame creates a cycle of anxiety and financial avoidance
The difference between financial safety and financial security
The four foundations of increasing your income through self-trust

✔️ High achievement and wealth building are two different skill sets.
✔️ Your career habits aren't bad habits—they're simply being applied to the wrong problem.
✔️ Many first- and second-generation professionals learned how to create value for employers and clients but were never taught how to build wealth for themselves.
✔️ Every strength has a shadow side. Responsibility can become over-responsibility, hard work can become overwork, and perfectionism can become analysis paralysis.
✔️ Wealth builders ask a different question: "What can I do today that my future self will thank me for?"
✔️ Building wealth isn't about working harder—it's about intentionally directing your time, energy, and money toward creating more freedom.
✔️ You don't need to stop being a high achiever. You simply need to evolve what achievement means.

#76: Why High-Income First-Gen Professionals Still Feel Financially Behind: The 10 Stages of Financial Security
2026/07/19
Why do so many high-income professionals still feel broke? Why doesn't making six figures automatically create financial security?
In this episode of Wealth Para Todos, money and self-care coach Rita Soledad Fernández Paulino explains why so many first- and second-generation professionals earn more money than their parents ever did but still feel financially behind.
You'll learn why earning more money isn't the same as building wealth, the hidden reasons high-income earners continue to experience financial anxiety, and how to stop measuring your success by your salary and start building real financial security.
Soledad walks through the top reasons first-generation wealth builders struggle to feel financially secure, including rising financial responsibilities, supporting family, inflation, student loans, healthcare costs, a lack of financial education, and building income before building wealth-building systems.
You'll also learn the 10 Stages of Financial Security, a step-by-step roadmap for knowing exactly what financial priority to focus on next—from building your first checking account buffer and emergency fund to paying off high-interest debt, investing for retirement, and ultimately becoming work optional.
Finally, Soledad introduces the Wealth Building Cycle, the four lifelong habits that help you move through the stages of financial security:
Develop a positive money mindset
Know your numbers
Build financial literacy
Increase your income sustainably
If you've ever thought:
"I make more money than my parents ever did, but I still don't feel financially secure."
"Where is all my money going?"
"Why doesn't earning more make me feel safer?"
"How do I build wealth without burning myself out?"
...this episode is for you.
In this episode you'll learn:
Why high-income professionals still feel financially behind
The difference between income and wealth
The biggest financial challenges first-generation wealth builders face

2026/07/12
Why do so many ambitious first- and second-generation wealth builders dream smaller than they truly want?
In this episode, Rita Soledad Fernández Paulino shares a powerful coaching story that reveals why the biggest obstacle isn't fear of failure—it's fear of disappointment.
You'll learn why your nervous system may have learned that wanting something is dangerous, how childhood experiences and financial trauma shape your relationship with ambition, and why self-care is the foundation that makes pursuing bigger dreams feel emotionally safe.
If you've ever thought:
"That's unrealistic."
"People like me don't do that."
"I don't want to get my hopes up."
"What if I fail?"
...this episode is for you.
In this episode, you'll learn:
Why many first-generation wealth builders self-reject their biggest dreams before they even begin.
How fear of disappointment—not fear of failure—keeps people playing small.
Why self-care is more than recovery from burnout—it's what prepares you to pursue bigger dreams.
How D.I.V.E.R.S.E. Self-Care helps you build the emotional capacity to tolerate uncertainty, setbacks, and grief.
Practical ways to strengthen self-trust, redefine success, and make your dreams feel emotionally safe.

#74: How to Pay Off Debt Without Hating Yourself: Understanding Debt Shame, Debt Confidence, and Debt Compassion
2026/07/05
Can you pay off debt without shame, burnout, or sacrificing your wellness?
In this episode of the Wealth Para Todos Podcast, host Rita Soledad Fernández Paulino (they/them), a queer Mexican-American money and self-care coach, explores the emotional side of debt and explains why debt itself isn't usually the problem—our relationship with debt is.
Drawing from their work coaching hundreds of first-generation wealth builders, caregivers, women, LGBTQ+ folks, and people navigating financial trauma, Rita breaks down the three ways people tend to leverage debt:
Leveraging debt with shame: using guilt, fear, and self-punishment as financial motivation.
Leveraging debt with confidence (confianza): using debt strategically by understanding interest rates, repayment plans, risk, and opportunity cost.
Leveraging debt with compassion (cariño): building financial security while protecting your mental health, wellness, and self-trust.
You'll learn why debt shame can create urgency and discipline but ultimately erodes self-trust, how confidence can help you build wealth while also creating risks of overwork and self-abandonment, and why combining confidence and compassion may be one of the most important financial skills you ever develop.
If you've ever felt ashamed of your credit card debt, struggled to pay off debt without burning out, or wondered why financial security doesn't always feel emotionally safe, this episode is for you.
In This Episode, You'll Learn:
Why debt is not a moral failing
The psychology of debt shame and financial trauma
The hidden benefits and costs of using shame as a financial strategy
How to leverage debt with confidence and self-trust
Why financial literacy alone isn't enough for long-term financial security
What it means to leverage debt with compassion
How to build wealth without sacrificing your wellness

Together, we discuss why financial literacy expands your options, how community support helped her avoid borrowing from a 401(k), and why self-care is an essential part of wealth building—not a reward you earn after reaching your financial goals.
